I guess I’ve forgotten that he played so poorly in that 06 championship game.
I think you may be referring to ILB Eric Alexander if you’re associating it with 2006 and the conference game loss to the Colts.

Gary Guyton was in the 2009–2011 era. Both were bad at their positions so it’s easy to mix them up, just like the O’Neill/Starks examples for CBs. Personally, I can appreciate the choice of Alexander, but I’m a bit confused with the Guyton one. I think there were plenty of other bad LBs that I’d think of first, although he definitely wasn’t very good.

Hard to imagine that there could be any other answer to this than Aaron Hernandez. Serial killers are worse than bad football players.

Irving Fryer..had all that talent and dropped so many passes. I swear he was on the take.

Who was it that they brought in for the ‘05 season to play CB? Guy from the Ravens. They gave up a third rounder. Now, HE sucked terribly.

Monty Beisel, Chad Brown on that defense. I’m surprised they were able to come back and have the 2nd ranked defense (points allowed) in 2006. That seems quite impressive, looking back.

Duane Starks. Ugh.

My least favorite player by a wide margin, Adalius Thomas. In March of 2007, Thomas, an ex-Raven free agent, signed a 5-year contract with the Patriots worth $35 million, including $20 million in guaranteed money. He played fairly well in 2007 and 2008 but by 2009 it became obvious that he was not on board with 'the Patriot Way', and I believe he created disharmony within the ranks of that 10-6 team which lost in the 1st round of the playoffs to none other than the Ravens. Thankfully he was cut the following season.
This is what I was coming in with

McCourty and his awful play and ridiculous contract, then they bring in his twin who is even worse, and yet somehow, he makes the team????

I am truly mystified as to how he made the roster.

I despise:

Oh So Stinko
Every veteran FA WR that retires while summering in Foxborough
Fat Albert
AHern and the Bristol Bangers
Stage 3 Clinger Guerrero
Neville Tuna
2015 Benedict Krafty
Krafty's booster chair
Organizational lipkissing
Fraudger and his secret lover Peter "Squeal Like a Pig" King
ESPN
Trollin Volin
The chubby/pasty Herald/WEEI reporter whose name I dare not mention
NIKE

#1 draft pick Chris Canty. What a waste of a high pick.
I stood next to the dwarf @ Smithfield. My 5'9 1/2" height towered over him. Had spindly chicken leg calves & his head seemed huge w/o a helmut.
I have NO idea what the Pats were thinking with this pick.
An iconic play was when he blitzed the QB, the QB fumbled, Canty did a sack dance while the opponents recovered the ball.

Do you remember what game he did his sack dance? I want to look that up. Lol.

I'm not BB who remembers every play but a geezer with limited memory. Saw it on TV.

Found this on formerly don't be evil google

Worst draft picks in Patriots history - The Boston Globe

"No. 29 overall, in 1997
Canty’s bust was notable as the first selection of personnel chief Bobby Grier after Bill Parcells left for the Jets. The defensive back/returner was with the Patriots for just two seasons, and never had much of a positive impact. He was mocked for his dance celebrations that often followed insignificant plays. Canty would be out of the NFL after the 2000 season."

I’m going to take a wild guess and say it was the ‘98 season. Maybe the ‘99 season as things really spiraled out of control. The secondary did dance a lot during the Carrol era and celebrated after tackling a player that resulted in a first down. It was quite bizarre.

Am I missing something here? Did he do something bad or are we just basing this on performance?
100% performance. It was clear as day to me that he was garbage but it seemed like he was never going to be benched and it almost started to feel like it was a personal attack having to watch him. He wasn't benched until the Steelers targeted him nonstop in 2011 if I remember correctly. They just threw the ball to whatever zone he was covering because he had sluggish short area movement even though he was supposedly a fast lb in the 40yard dash. Once he was benched I don't remember ever seeing him again and I should google that date and consider it as some kind of anniversary lol. Matt Patricia was the lb coach at the time and for that reason alone I had no fear of the day he would move on to another team.

Three whole pages before we see this?

Ack.

Steve Martin needs to garner a honorable mention here....what a sieve!!!! Killed the '02 run D all by himself!
Wasn’t he also a problem in the locker room?

Had he caught the pass, he wasn’t going anywhere. Bethea was going to tackle him. More blame should be on Brady for being absolutely clueless on that play.

Hayneworth. Not a murderer, but at least Hernandez contributed on the field when he wasn't out shooting people. I hated the "make it rain" c--p, though. Close call.

Junior Seau - I don't him for the person he is. But he took the 2007 SB for granted. Who throws a party days before the big game? The team was not ready to go that day.

Rodney Harrison says he pled with Seau to check out of that asinine all-out blitz that gave Eli the easy gamewinning throw to Plaxico over marooned Hobbs, but Seau refused. Grrrr. (Double Grrr on the coaches for calling it in the first place.)
