Do you really think that WRs do the same thing on every play?
Hogan can play a lot in the slot and also run deep routes outside. On average he may get a deep ball once a game, maybe less. Edelman probably got almost as many deep balls as hogan last year.
You can also get open deep from the slot.

Of course I Don't, particularly in our offense. But Hogan is primarily an intermediate and deep route specialist. And that shouldn't change. He is not a get-open-quick guy. I mistakenly said that he shouldn't line up inside, in my mind I was arguing that he will not be working underneath routes all of a sudden and trying to fill the edelman/slot role.

fair enough, the routes are more important than where each guy is lined up initially. My guess/hope would be that, if Dorsett earns a meaningful role in the offense, it would be him working the underneath stuff. Based on my limited knowledge, I think he has the greater short area quickness to be successful there while Hogan really is built as a more vertical player.

I'm not educated enough on Dorsett to say what routes he doesn't/does run well.

I do know what Hogan does well and they should leave him alone

Well, I guess if Dorsett makes one play its one play more than JB would have made. Barring a catastrophe. Pats were only keeping 2 QBs and made the correct choice.

I saw some asking about Tavon Austin, Dorsett is more or less a clone of him at a fraction of the cost.

With Amendola, Edelman, and even Hogan to a lesser extent, getting up there in age the Patriots needed to replenish the WR cupboard either way. Getting Mitchell, Cooks and Dorsett does this.

From an impact standpoint, I doubt Dorsett produces much this year at all to be honest, other than on very simplified routes to get him the ball in space and so forth. His biggest impact probably starts after he's had time in the system to learn the playbook and gain Brady's trust. He's got along way to go.

Wait, what the f***? Beyond the trade itself, this means the team has no third QB and their second string QB is a free agent next year. If Jimmy is gone then who the hell backs up TB12? Makes me think that they are either planning on extending him somehow.

Julian converts back to QB! This tells me that JB was in danger of being cut, I don't get it but it speaks to the Pats mindset.

There is no reason he can't run those routes. He has. He won't step into edelmans shoes but he could.
This offense doesn't have assigned roles, it morphs and eveloves yo the players but uses the same principles. Some of what Edelman did no doubt will be taken up by hogan.

To all the Dorsett haters out there; he was generally given a third round grade in the draft. Obviously, the Colts overdrafted him in the first round (what else is new). So, to be fair we can't rightfully call him a bust...yet. I am by no means sold on the acquisition (picking up playbook, chemistry with the Goat etc), but I am sold on his talent.

We shall see.

Dorsett is an ascending prospect who has averaged more than 25 yards per catch since 2012. He can challenge teams vertically inside or outside and he has home-run potential after the catch as a slot receiver. With smaller wide receivers like T.Y. Hilton and Antonio Brown proving that small and fast can win in the NFL, Dorsett should be coveted by more than one team and has the potential to turn into a star in the NFL.

Walter Football compared him to Mike Wallace and projected first or early second.

NFL Draft Scout had him late first early second.

So no. He was generally given a first, early second round grade.

True, but it is the same with Brissett coming in now with the season starting in one week.

Watching his tape, he finds holes 15-20 yards downfield really fast. Brady's gonna have a lot of options as soon as he looks up from a play fake.

I was going to comment on it as well. Brown is very solid. Collins came out of college a FS and we already had an elite Safety in Dmac. Why draft him?

We had the best D in the league last year.

Maybe we can undo it and cut McCourty and Harmon?
