Drafting brissett also could mean nothing other than they felt he was the bpa, backups contract is coming up soon, and the starter is 39.drafting Brissett supports this idea too.

Why stop there?
Rubbish.
The cap is $167m and going up. With his first deal Jimmy G will be $15m/yr or so.
If you can't win with your franchise QB consuming only 9% of the cap your GM is horrible.
No offense but if this is rubbish.. then why isnt jimmy fetching what goff and rg3 fetched. He is clearly more talented than both those players. Furthermore if jimmy g were in this years draft he would be the first or second pick. So why would teams draft him so high and they are clearly willing to trade away there future for a rookie qbs but we would most like only be able to get a first and a third or fourth for him? Its because teams in todays day and age are not willing to trade their future and pay a player. I am not arguing that he is not worth it. I am arguing his trade value.
You are speculating on some of your points.
You have no idea what teams have or are considering to offer for Jimmy G. No one does.
Saying Jimmy G is a better prospect or talent coming out of college than RG3 or Goff is not accurate.
I will agree the more expensive and older the player, the less draft pick compensation they would willing to give up.
I wasnt arguing jimmy g value coming out of college i am saying now. If jimmy g was able to go back into the draft he would be the first or second pick.. and you would see a team give away the farm for him. The only reason we are not seeing that is money. But anyways i agree i am speculating.. this whole thread is speculation. But it is fun.
I tend to agree Jimmy would be a high pick. I don't know if his upside would be considered higher than the current crop. The other consideration is that teams would have cost control as picks have slotted salaries and Jimmy would not as he is already in the league.

Belichick should retire and turn the team over to one of his sons.
Thinking of putting this in my sig, "Ivan says..."
Am I a bad person?
A couple of thoughts on this topic
1. While I had to listen to more babble on this topic on the radio, this thought occurred to me. As of now EVERYONE is taking Schecter's report as gospel, as if it came directly from Bill or a surrogate with orders from Bill. Then I started to wonder, if this was reality and the Pats wanted to get the word out that they aren't trading JG under any reasonable circumstances, why give the story to Schecter rather than Reiss or Curran, 2 guys who are known to have close and good relations to the organization. Why give Schecter the big scoop? Just a thought.
2. Cleveland has so many draft picks this year, last year and next year they are reaching a point of dimishing returns. You can't keep all your draft picks every year and build a stable roster. You often end up releasing a talent like Gabriel because you have to absorb such a large influx of new talent every year. In the end you wind up training talent that will blossom on their NEXT team.
The point being Cleveland can afford to give the Pats multiple picks this year and next to make a deal for JG.
3. BB was an Economics Major in college. He understands the value of a diminishing asset, and that is what JG is until he actually gets to play. He also has to recognize the fact that NOW he has a VERY favorable market place with a number of teams desperately needing QB's and the current QB class in the draft being particularly weak.
4. We had a 450+ post thread that droned on and on, from pillar to post and in the end concluded that "the Pats won't trade Jimmy Garapolo.....unless of course they do." This thread is a continuation of that thread.
5. I repeat this guarantee, with the exception of Shanahan who has a 6 year deal with the Niners, any HC who picks one of these QB's in the first round, won't be around long enough to see if they ACTUALLY develop into a good NFL starter. So to pick one would seem to be professional suicide, where you only reward you get is the thanks of the guy who replaces you. (IF the kid works out)
Still eyeing Cleveland's 12th pick... Would be best for both teams.
Reuben Foster may be available at this spot? Or take a Taco...
It would be difficult for a new rookie QB to start immediately. A rookie QB can lose confidence pretty quickly. The alternative is to keep the rookie as a backup for 2+ yrs and now bring in a veteran. So, now you invested in 2 QBs.
With Jimmy, he starts. He has 1 cheap year to evaluate. If he stinks, you look at the 2017 draft which has a much stronger QB class. If Jimmy does well, you offer him a contract.
On the Patriots side, I would not feel comfortable having Brissett backup Brady, if Brady goes down. Patriots would have to have a fill-in, if Brady gets hurt.
IMO.
