Pats now betting favorites to land Delvin Cook (Update: Odds "Pretty High" He Signs With Jets)

I am not sure if he is the answer. On the other hand, I wish we signed another offensive weapon regardless of position.
(There's not a lot of impactful guys available right now)
so many questions it seems we're thousands of miles away from the "answer oasis". We have to LOOK AT what the hell kind of offense they'll be running this season to even make any judgements worth a damn...in fact, we may have to wait for the first 4 games of the season to unfold to really get a clue because preseason has turned into a goddamned joke the past few years

Didn't Cook have the 2nd worst ypc in the league last year for all players with 200+ carries?

I can't see this happening. BB is just fine rolling with JAGs on offense. Defense and special teams is how you win football games. The rest of the league just hasn't caught up.

I understand that they have to put out odds because providing more things to bet on basically prints money for the house. On the other hand, you have to be a real degenerate gambler to bet on the eventual destination of a veteran running back on the basis of little more than Cook flirting with certain teams via Twitter likes.

I like the player and believe he would help the team.
my assumption is he chases best deal, or plays where he wants to be. I do not think either is in New England.
re Miami, if I recall correctly, when he was drafted, the feeling was Cook needed to get away from Florida and his friends who were a negative influence in his life.

This seems to be the crux of the issue. The team will have a lot of info we can't.

A general rule of thumb is that RBs are toast at 28, WR are toast at 32. Pretty much holds true. Agreed the teams know more than we do.

What was worrying about Hopkins was the teams knew more and only two teams wanted him - that says something other than cap space. Lots of teams with cap space and a need passed on Hopkins.

I agree the market for Hopkins did not seem strong. I wonder if Bill did him a solid by providing a stalking horse that helped him get a better deal from Vrabel, by making a lowball bid even if he suspected damaged goids.

I think BB really wanted Hopkins, if BB had limited downside. Kyed is reporting that the Pats would have released Bourne if Hopkins was signed.

He wanted him but from a cap/injury/age standpoint clearly was not willing to have him with an increased risk profile.

Won't provide a #1 WR for Mac
Content to shelter Mac in a run-centric offense (TBD)
Draft only defense with top picks

Bill has a plan

Maybe he’s had enough time to install the veer he’s so fond of.

Considering he forfeited 1 practice and cancelled two others, I suspect it has been a virtual installation

What it will take to buy Cook to fill a position of not very much need could be much better spent filling other holes of much greater need, like OL, LB.

Spent on which available OL or LB upgrade? Name names please.

Pass, what’s the point what’s he realistically going to do to compete for the division? Hopkins would have put every other WR in their correct slot which would have made a difference in the offense.
It wouldn't shock me if this scenario plays out at a position I consider a strength. That said I think this Cooks talk is all smoke the Pats have plenty RB's in the cubby also RB's are a dime dozen in the league today.

I wanted him too, but he is 31 (32 is the "cliff age" of WRs - general rule) and not on PEDs anymore. The PED thing has always bothered me because I don't know why Hopkins used them, but I assume the Pats vetted that before making an offer. Overall it would be nice to have a top WR, even if his availability was spotty IMO.

I love Bourne but there are obvious problems. Maybe he can keep his head on straight but getting married usually is not easy the first few years. We will see, Bourne has a lot of physical talent, but stability issues have always plagued him, not just last year. Kyed is saying Hopkins would have pushed Bourne out which means he is WR #4.

You have Montgomery who has yet to show anything other than potential. You have Rham who held up okay last year but clearly got banged up and looked bogged down at times. You have Harris and Strong who had a few flashes. If this was the 3rd week of the season and Rham got hurt, you have nothing other than hope and potential on your side. Worked during the Brady years, definitely wont work during the Mac years. Doesnt have to be Cook but they have to get someone with a solid history in here to share the load with Rham.
