Pats have engaged in TRADE TALKS for Isaiah Wynn

Haven't seen too much of that unfortunately.
Well actually there were a number of times I tried to watch Wynn closely. What I saw was this. He was an excellent run blocker who was nimble on his feet, kept blocking to the whistle and stuck to the first man he took. In pass coverage he anchored fairly well even against the 280-90 DE but would have an issue with the elite power rushers (as do most OT's). I found that when when he got in trouble (let up sacks or pressures), it was because he got too far up over his feet, and lost balance. That is something that is eminently fixable with lost of reps, something he hasn't had a lot of this summer as you state. Hopefully this week he will start to get more....a lot more.

I wonder what happened here? From what ive heard he just stopped showing up to camp and practice, or is he injured?
Wynn skipped OTAs. I don't know if it was just contract posturing or something else personal but it looked bad. You've got a bunch of new teammates trying to establish chemistry, and you don't show? Nah, they say it's 'voluntary' but people notice these things.

Could be a number of reasons.

1) He was showing his displeasure for not being given a long-term extension.
2) He had a personal matter to attend to.
3) He really has no interest being here.
4) The team told him to stay home as they were trying to work out a trade.

I didn't give a crap that he was 295 and not 345. Every year the outside pass rushers get smaller and smaller Most now run in the 230-45 range. The premium for today's OT's is athleticism. How good are their feet. Coming out of college Wynn was the best athlete of all the high end OT's
Absolute speculation of my part, but how much of his injury-proness could be attributed to him constantly having to "punch above" his weight class? Surely keeping his level of athleticism always facing guys bigger than him... It has to take a toll, in some way.

And I don't know if Agree Ken. Not that athletiscism isnt important, but that it can overcame such a natural height/weight disparity. First and foremost, I dont really know about this bolded part. Inside Lbers sure are getting smaller and faster, but Edges?

Literally there is one guy below 245 in this draft class measurement, according to this source (2022 NFL Scouting Combine: EDGE/DL measurements, hand size, and more from Day 3 of workouts),
Last year, multiple lists that i found didnt have a single one below 245. The smallest one? One Ronnie Perkins about 247.
(2021 NFL Draft: Top 10 edge rushers prospects)

Again, i thought he was very good when at his best, but he never mantained that for long. Whatever the reason

This was a very well drawn up weak side blitz against the perfect (for them) alignment (empty). In an ideal world MAYBE a 10 year vet C sees that AND can get there to help. I would opine that even if the C saw it coming, he'd have a very hard time getting there. This is on the QB. Brady would have brought back a RB back into the backfield where he'd have had an angle on the blitzing S, or changed the WR's routes to get the ball out quicker. And that would be too much to ask from Zappe. You can see him focusing on the 2 deep in cuts on the weakside that will take too long to develop. Brady would have been looking at the strong side from the snap and rolled a bit away from the blitz. (hard to see what the strong side routes were)

This is a tip of the cap play from Carolina, those undisciplined and disreputable bastards

I wish I could see the game the way you and some other posters do. I see a lot of the game, but just not quite at the detailed level that you and some others see it at

I’m peanut butter and jelly about it

I should be so lucky , I am still working out who is on the field and the play is over

I see, so pretty much still a mystery. Well id say i agree its not good regardless whether its yet another injury or him being crabby over the contract situation. Its not like he’s outplayed his contract or something…. Not even here half the time.

With the way our OL is performing , I would be loathe to trade Wynn even if he suits up for just 3 -4 games this season.

He has all incentive to outperform this year . So better to keep him. We will recoup our 10 million investment on him.

Is 3-4 games ply and 2024 3rd really worth $10M?

Who is gonna give us 2024 3rd . We will not be getting anything more than a sixth for Wynn. So why trade him.

So pay a guy $10.4m and he misses 75% of the games?

His money is guaranteed. He gets it whether he plays or sits in the tub. Not sure what his motivation could be aside from a new deal somewhere else which at this point in questionable if he'll get for big money because of his injury history.

He could be fat dumb and happy for all we know.

Only if he plays like a top 15 RT for 90% of the games and all in the playoffs.

I don't see a huge trade value for his contract . Hence it's sunk cost for now .
If we trade him we are not gonna find someone comparable . At least we can be sure that he will protect Mac to a better extent than the other folks on the roster outside of the starters.

Saving 10 million for a 6th round trade pick is useless. If we get a 3rd rounder and someone to absorb the entire contract we can discuss, else better to roll with Wynn .

3-4 games was minimal expectation. I hope he will suit up for at least 50% games. He might end up performing like a 5 million guy . Since this is his prove it year, to get an extension or next big contract he would need to perform . So more likely than not we can expect good play from him . Similar to agholor.

Becoming an UFA is plenty of motivation to go all out.

Place your bets! Does Wynn get traded?

No. It doesn’t make sense to trade him. No one is going to give you more than a 5th for him right now, they would be better off letting him play it out and take the comp pick.

There is a caveat to this. If they see a player coming free on the market and need to free up 8-10 million to get the player, e.g..Beckham, then I could see making a deal, short of that I don’t see any sense. Saving money just for the sake of it doesn’t make sense when you are trying to take the next step in your team’s development,

Don't overrate players when you're trying analysis. Overrating the talent doesn't help the team. Overrating the talent doesn't lead to more wins. Overrating doesn't do anything but screw up the analysis. At the LT position, we went through this crap with Nate Solder, where this board consistently overrated him, too. That didn't make him a better player, either.

And Wynn's not a solid pass protector.
Don’t underrate players cuz you have a bias. Underrating players is a pointless waste of time. Underrating players doesn’t lead to more losses. That’s cuz Soldier was the same above average but not great or elite player Wynn is. Wynn is solid in both run blocking and pass protection. Just cuz I said so not like I need any proof other then my opinion. Do I wish he was better? Of course, I was expecting top 5-10 level LT play from his numbers and the film I watched when he was drafted. When he is on the field (again granted not as often as he should be) he plays like a 10-15 LT, solid, unspectacular play, but not oh god cover your eyes duck Brady! play like say Waddle in 2019. If you think Wynn is anything less then average you clearly have not watched enough other team’s LT play.

Depends on the player. Some are driven. Some are not.

I would like to see Wynn get beat out and spend the year as the backup swing tackle. Is that what he's being paid for?......no. But, I could live with it.
