Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

Per Jeff Howe:

Mark Wetterer was also cut.

Pats need to make 1 more cut to get to 80. 2 if they also sign a long snapper.

BTW, if you look at what Reiss quoted Belichik as saying, "That there will be a LS on the roster by Thursday", that could easily mean that they just change Lee Smith from a TE to an LS. IF they feel confident in Smith.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

I didn't realize this before, but Chris Price tweeted that Lee Smith has experience as a LS. Is this a move to keep a 4th TE?

I didn't think we would, but it now looks like a possibility. That said, Lee really does run with lead feet.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

Katula surprised and confuses me.

Reiss reporting that Dearth has been signed as the long snapper!

Another ex-Jet! We got enough for all the captains?

Pats will need to release one more person to get to 80 with Dearth's signing..

I don't see how swapping Dearth for Katula improved the team. . . .

Until we see how Dearth does as a long snapper on special teams, we can't truly evaluate him, can we....

God, I miss Lonnie...

James Dearth LS

James Dearth - TE - Patriots

Patriots signed LS James Dearth, formerly of the Chargers.
Dearth, 35, spent all of last season on injured reserve with a fractured foot. He replaces incumbent Matt Katula, who was let go by the Pats on Monday.

What's amazing to me is that Wikipedia already has Dearth as a Patriot. Does some Wiki editor have access to the NFL transactions line?

Re: James Dearth LS

plz edit to "New Longsnapper"

I don't get it.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

Thats funny I was thinking maybe the Pats should look into Dearth, and now here he is.

Dearth was the longest tenured Jet before his release last year, sat on the Chargers injured reserve with a broken foot last season.

Was always solid for the Jets and I never knew why they let him go. I kinda figured it was because he was one dimensional, just played long snapper, maybe had 25 plays (I'm guessing) as a TE in his 10 year career with the Jets.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

Well I hope Reiss is wrong. We have Ninko who can do it. I'd hate to lose another roster spot on a STeamer . We carry 3 QB's already. we have a K a P and luckily a cvapable WR that is versatile enough to be more than just a STeamer Gunner.

BB lives by versatility and I hope Ninko or Smith if he makes the team.... can do those duties.

We don't have to lose a roster spot w/ a LS 3 QB's takes the LS spot away.
I doubt it that we carry 4 TE's
A LBer can get hurt so easily, I'd rather have a specialist. One bad snap can cost you a game.

Re: wilhite, sanders among cuts

What's up with all the Ex-Jets?

We're clearly going to milk Dearth for all the Jets secrets.

Everyone knows that longsnappers are the glue that keep teams together.

Re: James Dearth LS

Bump

Plz edit title Mods TY

I know Katula was a bit shaky in camp, but did he have any bad snaps? He made a special teams tackle last night. Kinda surprised in the sense that they cut him before bringing Dearth in and seeing him play in a game situation.

WTF.. he is 35 years old ???
