They will not keep 7 receivers. Boutte will be on PS
5 DT's is one too many, They need another RB
Amber Speed is not making this team
Agree.
Amber speed , Boutte and Daniel ekuale will not make this team. Boutte can make the team only if any of the other receivers go on IR. Else he is cut or will get foxborough flu .

Firsker will be replaced with sokol.

And no way we get bledsoe on the team . There are too many defensive backs. So 1 spot is still open.

We will have 4 Running backs and 10 offensive linemen. 8 is too risky considering 17 game season .

Perhaps, after seeing him in every practice for 3 years, the coaches have decided that he is not a viable option for free safety.

So if it’s Jon Jones or Jaylon Mills at FS, then we need another CB.

Slater doesn't really count as a WR imo. I don't think they will keep 6 WR either, I am predicting an injury or trade. Also unless Monty proves he can get healthy and actually play, I think we will certainly add a vet RB and carry 4.

QB (2) M.Jones, B.Zappe

RB (4) R.Stevenson, T.Montgomery, K.Harris, P.Strong

WR (6) D.Parker, J.Smith-Schuster, K.Bourne, T.Thornton, D.Douglas, M.Slater

TE (3) H.Henry, M.Gesicki, M.Sokol

RT (2) C.McDermott, R.Reiff
RG (2) M.Onwenu, A.Mafi,
C (2) D.Andrews, J.Andrews
LG (2) C.Strange, K.Russey
LT (2) T.Brown, S.Sow

DT (3) C.Barmore, D.Godchaux, C.Davis
DE (4) D.Wise, K.White, L.Guy, S.Roberts

OLB (3) M.Judon, J.Uche, A.Jennings.
ILB (5) J.Bentley, M.Mapu, J.Tavai, M.Wilson, C.Board

CB (5) C.Gonzalez, Ja.Jones, M.Jones, J.Mills, I.Bolden
SS (2) K.Dugger, A.Phillips
FS (3) J.Jones, J.Peppers, B.Schooler

K (1) C.Ryland
P (1) B.Baringer
LS (1) J.Cordona

Total players: 53

- I think the RB position will change before game 1
- Going with Sokol instead of Firkser for now
- 10 offensive linemen for options
- Bolden replaces Wade and Myles
Works for me.

Completely and totally Disagree.
Sure. I understand. they aren't real players. As you said, you don't even consider a long snapper a real player.

In essence, you are limited to a 49 man roster, since Belichick will always sign 3 special team specialists and 6 more special teamers who make the team because of their ST skills (and you want 3 specialists and 2 more STO's)

You add 4 more position players that Belichick replaces with players who primarily play on special teams.
===============
The BOTTOM LINE Is that Belichick will have 3-5 players who you would exclude because they are making the team because of their special teams skills.

MY LIST OF SPECIAL TEAMERS (6 plus Douglas and possibly Speed)
Slater, Schooler, Board, Hellig, Bolden, and Montgomery make six.
===========
I would argue that DOUGLAS is now almost a lock BECAUSE of his special teams (returner) skills.

I expect BOLDEN to also make the 53 because of his special team skills.

Douglas and Bolden over Bryant and Wade seems like a major improvement.
==============
THEY SUCK AS REAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS
Slater and the rest of the corps special teamers meet your definition, perhaps excepting Douglas who is our 2023 binkie as a WR.

If Evan is correct and Sidy Sow is making slow progress at the tackle position, which he last played in 2018 at Eastern Michigan, then that makes it difficult to keep him on the 53 for cutdowns.

He likely gets taken by another team on waivers.

It seems as if there’s adequate depth at guard. So in Zumba’s projection we keep 10 OL. By keeping Sow, we will lose Boutte. That sucks.

Difficult decisions all. 10 OL is too high but I think it’s smart because we want to keep the rooks and need options in case some aren’t getting it done. Maybe if they go with Sokol at TE then 9 is ok.

More and more the Thornton vs Boutte narrative is apparent. This may work itself out due to injuries unfortunate either at WR or a different position.

It’s 6 WRs, Slater doesn’t count.
I could see 6 if we bring in Elliot and put Harris on the PS.
We are really just drawing a line between game day inactives and practice squad.
Harris would provide no risk on waivers and if he were picked up he would be easily replaceable. Textbook JAG.

Captain hates special teams.

I don’t see 10 OL on the 53 but a few of them will be on the PS.

Brown strange Andrews Onwenu
2 of Reiff, McDermott, Anderson
Andrews, Sow, Mafi unless one of last years PS/injured guys beats them out, but at that point the guy who was on the ps last year probably is a safer cut. Being on the 53 and inactive or on the ps is largely the same thing.

WR
Yes, Thornton could make the roster for a day and then be put on the IR. This might provide an opportunity for Boutte. But, perhaps not. With Parker, Shuster, Bourne and Douglas, Boutte would likely never be active. Four is enough.

OT/TE
I have always liked the idea of 12 total OL and TE positions. Everything points to us carrying 3 TE's, so 9 OL's.
5 starters
2 backup OT's (including Sow)
2 backup OG/C's: Andrews and Mafi
1-2 PS OT's: one of veteran OT's, and/or Steuber
2-3 PS from: Murray, Russey (yes Russey could beat out Mafi), Hines, Ferentz

Why would you put Thornton IR without an injury?
Might as well just cut him. Being away from football for a year will do him no good. But let’s dump him to keep the guy no one wanted until the 6th round, so he can be inactive every week and contribute absolutely nothing, right?

I'm not suggesting putting Thornton on IR without an injury.

Also, I'm not suggesting putting him on IR for the season.
=================
I am simply noting the possibility of Thornton perhaps being placed on IR early in the season with an injury that might ordinarily put a player on IR.
===============
If you believe that Douglas doesn't deserve lots of reps, so bit. I'm fine with Shuster, Parker, Bourne and Douglas getting all the WR reps. SEVEN targets are plenty (4 WR, 2 TE and a RB). This doesn't count a 2nd RB or a utility like Montgomery.
=================
Given what Thronton has shown, I'm fine with him being one of the two developmental players on the 53, but I would expect him to be inactive almost always, even if there were on injury. 3 active WR receivers is enough. Being on IR is worse for him than being inactive, but being on IR doesn't keep him out for the season as you suggest.
