Why can't backups at positions from scrimmage also be starters on STs while learning/apprenticing those positions?
You know how I feel about this...not giving the younger guys that are backups an opportunity to play and grow is a mistake IMO. Also cutting potential future starters in favor of special teams only players is also a mistake IMO. I know we are in the minority...always have been.

I've always seen Wade as an outside CB, he stands 6'1" tall at near 200 pounds, he's the tallest CB on the team. That doesn't say "slot corner" to me.
His production at slot in college does say slot to me.

Total players: 53

The real number for first month or so is more like 56, as three vets who don't have to pass through waivers can be stashed on the practice squad and elevated up to three times. And by the time you have to elevate them, there will likely be some injuries.

Also Ekuale is suspended for two games and doesn't count on the roster, so really 57 players is the size of the real protected roster for those two games.

All the missing guys are ones we can move on from. Schooler seems to be the cheaper younger Cody Davis. I hope we get some trade return for Wynn at least and potentially Butler, but doubt the latter…

I'd still rather have the Butler & Wynn/Lose here, for now, as insurance than lose them any earlier than the final cut-down day... plenty of real flotsam & jetsam to ditch before them...

That was almost by necessity, his college team had two guys taken early in the draft ahead of him and Wade was the underclassman. That was simply a case of coaches getting their best players on the field.

Butler hasn't been good since 2016... seriously, he sucked in 2017 here and was bad in Tennessee.

I'd keep Wynn but if Cajuste is having as good a camp as reported then they might be able to get some draft capital for him.

It looks like Hambright could be a swing OG/OT that's providing them some flexibility and Onwenu could always swing outside to RT in a pinch.

It might be by design, they know who Bourne and Parker are at this point.
Yeah its possible , we may see more tomorrow.

An understandable concept. Can you give several examples of Belichick cutting potential future starters in favor of ST only players?

While he excelled at slot he didn't do so well on the outside. He was hurt a bit then however.

Yeah, he played hurt his senior season.

Sucked for his draft stock, but commendable that he played hurt and didn't shut it down.

It speaks to his character and toughness... he also looked pretty good on Thursday outside.

We could potentially use his length and speed.

When people see Cajuste/Herron start they will pray for Wynn soon enough ..

Unfortunately Wynn finds every opportunity to stay away from the field..

You keep saying this, but how many of those players that have been cut, that you wanted to keep, ended up doing anything anyplace else? We have a tendency to overvalue our rookies and undervalue our starters.
