Patriots trade Hollister to the Seahawks

We traded an absolutely useless player before he was injured again.

Hollister had exactly zero chance of making the 53 or even the Practice Squad.

That is what Belichick decided.

Sounds like a Patriot..Smart, tough and a leader...Blocking TE...H back

TE’s are sooooo last season!

I assume with 3 QBs and 5 RBs being likely on the 53 roster we would only carry 2 TEs anyway so that makes it even more unlikely for him and I assume next to ASJ and LaCosse, Stephen Anderson would be in front of him as well. So you are talking about the 4th or 5th TE on the roster.

Did the Patriots throw his usual tub into the deal?

I've been going NUTS since the draft over the lack of a TE pick even though we could have had our pick of Smith, Knox, Warring, and Sternberger. All were fine prospects though Smith is really an HB who I didn't want unless it was at 56.

Not only that we drafted a worthy pick in the 2nd, although at a position we currently have SIX CB's who have started at least one game last season. We grabbed 2 C's although we currently have a very good one under contract for 2 more years. We grabbed a good G although we already have 2 of the better G's in the league and a solid back up in Karras. And instead of drafting a DT or TE, we draft ANOTHER RB although we have 4 good guys at the position already. To say this draft was baffling would be an understatement.

But that being said, you make a great point. Maybe this ISN'T about replacing Gronk. And it's not about how you attack the field in your passing game, but rather from what position you attack it from.

So instead of having a TE threatening the seam you threaten it say with a slower, but still a lot faster than most TE's from the slot. And he still has enough speed to run all of Gronks outside routes.

What you DON'T have is Gronk to block on the line. You can solve part of that problem by having one of the PLETHORA of OLmen we have lining up outside the OT.

So just maybe the sky isn't falling just yet and we don't have to make a big trade for a guy like Roudolph. We just have to redistribute the attack threats with the talent that already exists on the team and go from there
1) Needs that don’t jump out at you can still be needs
To wit
I don’t think anyone says having jason McCourty means no need at corner. Jc Jackson could easily fall off the cliff and Jones is only a nickel and gone next year. Dawson is an unknown.
We started Patterson and barner at rb last year and havent added anyone.
One of those Gs is going into the last year of his contract.
What does “we grabbed 2 Cs” mean? We didn’t draft any centers.

2) I can definitely see Belichick and McDaniel’s saying there is no other gronk do instead of watering down the system with a lame copy, lets innovate and modify the system.
Clearly they have changed their criteria and value at WR.

Bill hit the ceiling when he heard he could get a 7th rounder

Seahawks fans are excited...not a single thread on their message board about this
They all went to the saints boards and posted.
WHO DAT?

Patriots got $3K back against the salary cap..

EDIT: And yes, I posted this because I KNEW someone was going to ask

Opening roster space for Kyle Rudolph?

The funny thing about this is that Caserio admitted that they traded up for the punter because they needed to burn some 7th round picks.

It's like a 7th rounder is a burden to these guys.

I think it's a contract thing. You're probably better off without 7 round picks if you're tight against the cap.

Have to wonder if BB truly thinks one of the lesser knowns on the roster is - in fact - ready to take on more of a role.

Winovich is the next Vrabel....who caught 10 passes playing tight end for the Pats, all tds....

7th round picks don't do squat towards the cap until after final cutdowns when their salary actually hits. Otherwise, it's just their meager signing bonus.

Having $13M in cap space is hardly being "tight against the cap"..

It's funny you mention that since Winovich actually WAS a TE his first year in College.
