Patriots Trade For Rams WR Greg Salas

Edelman - punt returner
Salas - kick returner
Slater - special teams coverage units

I'd rather have Salas return kickoffs than risk injury to one of the two starting cornerbacks.

We have never seen Salas return a kick, so I'm not so sure I commit a game day active spot just to have him back there instead of Vereen, Woodhead, Edleman, etc. We don't have to chose between activating Salas and using a starting corner at KR.
I think you know that, and this was just a way to back into the original argument you made, by grasping at straws.
By the way as of today, Salas isnt the 4th WR, he is the 3rd.

Might actually have some potential. Caught 27 passes in 6 games on the Rams as a rookie.

This guy just hit the opportunity lottery of the NFL going to the Pats to catch passes from Tom Brady and possibly fill a KR/PR voic.

First, Silvestro is "cheap labor". Second, Silvestro participated in training camp practices and played in the preseason games. Silvestro earned the right to qualify for the 53 man roster.

So this whole 3 day fiasco is because you think a player is supposed to be punished for being injured?

It's called earning a spot on the 53 man especially when the player was not previously on the roster in any of the prior seasons.

I guess by your definition Jonathan Fanene was "punished for injury".

No Fanene was injured to severely to help.
Clearly you think Shiancoe is a lazy malinered and a player with an injury should be considered a *******, but Mr. Belichick appears to disagree.

Gaffney - cut due to injury
Shiancoe - carte blanche

What point are you trying to make here?
Are you seriously trying to say that Belichick looked at 2 injured players and for no appreciable reason just kept one to f with you?
You do not seem to lack the intelligence to think this one through.

The criteria is who BB fells will help the team the most during the regular season. Waters wasn't with the team last and didn't earn his spot in training camp. So you don't think Waters should have been starting?

Of course not. Shiancoe is vet who BB has seen play for a number of years he made an evaluation that he could help the team this year more than SIlvestro. We don't se what sort of work he puts in the film room ect.

He of course won't even be a starter, but if BB and the coaching staff think he can make a bigger contribution than Silvestro I am fine with that. IMO Ballard will be in the TE mix next year. I just hope Shiancoe get a ring this year.

Double standard

The same "supposed" handshake deal for Gaffney could have been offered to Shiancoe.

There is no double standard. there were 90+ standards. When you come to understand and accept that, you'll feel better.

Double standard

The same "supposed" handshake deal for Gaffney could have been offered to Shiancoe.

And that makes absolutely no sense.
Please give any motivation for why BB would cut Gaffney and keep Shaincoe if they are in the exact same situation, as you claim.

Are you honestly telling me that he has a double standard that for some reason favors Visanthe Shiancoe?

Yeah BB should be fired with not clearing it with you...

Do you know exactly Shiancoe's physical condition and how serious the injury is?

How soon Gaffney would take to return?

I have no idea and neither do you. BB OTOH has the best info since he get it from the Doctors treating the players...

This argument might be worth making IF Gaffney returns, trading for Salas makes a return by Gaffney less likely.

Brian Waters was a Pro-Bowl starting caliber offensive guard.

Of course not. Shiancoe is vet who BB has seen play for a number of years he made an evaluation that he could help the team this year more than SIlvestro. We don't se what sort of work he puts in the film room ect.

Daniel Fells is the backup tight end on the New England Patriots roster. Shiancoe has not earned anything to date to justify a roster spot let alone a backup tight end role.

Double standard

You do realize that in all liklihood, Gaffney who chose to come here and reportedly will not listen to other offers, is a no risk cut, and Shiancoe who would be at the least a #2 TE on over 3/4s of the teams in the NFL is far less likely to pass up other offers, which include one he debated over before signing here, right?

So there ought to be a double standard?

Shianco has been a significantly better player in the NFL to date than Fells.

Are Gaffney and Shiancoe both currently injured? Yes or No?

Are Gaffney and Shiancoe both currently injured? Yes or No?

Are you honestly that naive that you think this question is meaningful?

Was Brian Waters injured when he signed with the New England Patriots last year?

Again, how does that matter? You just said the rules should be different for him.

That's the double standard - INJURED players treated in a completely different manner.
