Patriots Rumor Tracker / FA Signings (Updated: Signings in OP - 4/7)

Gotta love people like you who think that Maye failed in the SB while ignoring how badly the O-line failed..
I don't think he failed per se, but watching some of the film there was a lot of meat on the bone that hopefully over time he starts to see. With the D playing as it was had he seen some of those things it might have turned out differently. I'm not disagreeing that the line wasn't great but can't ignore the film.

Overrated Brady made Josh.
(Checks schedule) - They went 14-3 last year and finished at the top of the league in scoring (2nd behind the Rams), one year removed from being at the bottom:

And it was the 5th highest total in franchise history:

I would say while Josh might not have had his best game in February, his body of work isn't quite as bad as you're making it out to be.

Wrong thread

You better hope Maye can carry him: he couldn't in the SB.
Maye was/is inexperienced. He's not now nor will ever be Tom Brady. He was hurt and getting smoked by Seattle's D. You had two rookies on the left side of the OL who were hurt and/or hit the rookie wall. Maye couldn't process it fast enough.

Doubs or Jennings are probably 80% of Diggs. Adding the FB will help the running game, as will the LG they got from the Jete. Henderson has flashes of being an elite weapon. Go improve the TE room, replace Diggs with someone who might actually throw a block and won't be an idiot off the field, draft best offensive weapon available at 31 and let's get going.

As far as JMcD's ability, he's limited by his players. He's not making any plays. Someone once said "Players play. It's a players game." I don't remember who it was. Get better, stronger and wait and see what happens.

Maye most often looked to Diggs on 3rd down. Doubs seems like he might be the guy to come in and replace those catches, unless we're bringing Diggs back, which I don't think is a great idea..

Point taken: we made the most of a weak schedule got some breaks which Teams need. It won't be so easy this year: right now we are not Better than Buffalo and we won't play the Jets and Dolphins every week. First Place Schedule on tap.

Theresa snowball effect. You’re under constant pressure so you’re sped up which means you don’t see everything, especially when you’re young. It does happen even to people like Brady.

He's intriguing, but I see Josh as more a Y TE guy than a flex. He couldn't do much with Jonnu Smith. I don't know if Okonkwo can block but he'll need to be able to do so with Josh as his OC.
We need a TE that can also block. Okonkwo doesn’t even try blocking like Henry.
My guess is we get that in the draft.

...and they won't go 14-3 this year. Bank on it.

People make way too much of this weak schedule thing, at least relative to the AFC. Compare our last place schedule to the Bills first place schedule. There’s an only a 3 game difference. All the other teams are the same. Patriots went 2-1 against teams the Bills didn’t play while the Bills went 1-2. If the Patriots beat only the team the Bills played which had a losing record and lose to the 2 winning teams, they go 1-2. So it’s a difference of 1 game. With a first place schedule the Patriots probably would have gone 13-4 and still won the division. Too much is made.

He looked like the developing sophomore year QB that he is. I have no doubt he'll learn from it all and that will make him even better in 2026.

I might want the Pats to trade for Olave over Brown. I think his concussion issues can be averted with a QB who doesn't typically throw coffin balls and having him run routes that are less dangerous. Doubs and Kirk would be nice add ons, but not a replacement to Diggs.

Yes the schedule was easy but I bet not one pundit out there didn't consider the Pats coming off back to back 4-13 seasons to be part of another team's easy schedule in September. Didn't hear many predictions that we'd take advantage of an easy schedule and win the conference...
