Patriots place Ghost on IR

I don't think so. I simply think it was a guy who was trying to play through an injury. It's not liked he missed everything. The guy made 7 of 8 FG attempts and the one he missed was from 48 yds.

Eventually, instead of getting better, it got worse (the hip, not the kicking) Probably he wasn't able to swing through the ball properly and consistently which caused some of the misses. The fact Schecter says he's going to have surgery means he isn't coming back.

Sh!t I go to the Gym and what I said early about kickers getting injured too comes true. This isn't good, but we have 3 more weeks before we hit the iron of our schedule and thus 3 more weeks to find the right guy.

Come on Ken. Enough with the excuses for ghost

I scrolled through specifically to see if someone offered this comment. :)
At this point id like to see Bionic Bailey handle kickoffs.

Those things are going to Jupiter anyways...

Ghost was bad this year for sure, but Patriots fans below a certain age have no concept of just how bad kicking can get. You can't assume that some random unsigned scrub kicker who is unemployed in October is going to be better. Kickers can always be worse.

Yes, and certain posters regardless of age can’t judge ghost without their homer glasses on

It has been mentioned that the injury which place him on IR is believed to have happened in game. These are paid professionals. If they aren't listed on the injury report they are presumed healthy enough. Yes not every scrape or bruise is listed, but that's football. I'm not trying to tell you Gost was absolutely 100% cause I don't know. Nor does anyone outside of the organization.

I'm telling you if it was serious to a degree where it effected him drastically he should have been on the injury report or listed as probable or questionable. The fact they never even considered the possibility of sitting him at any point means they believed he was healthy enough to do the job.

How many teams have more than one kicker? For punter, kicker and long snapper, I think either they are healthy enough to play or they are cut/ir'd and another player is signed. Ghost historically is an above average (to say the least) kicker. Therefore, I think they wanted to give him a chance to work through it/heal depending on what the injury is before they moved on. Either it got worse or BB was no longer willing to wait.

I guess my point is that "healthy enough to do the job" does not equate to "healthy enough to do the job well (or at his prior level)".

Also, we know BB likes his injury list games and this may be one of them. Don't think we will ever know because unless BB/the team want to get penalized, Ghost got hurt during the Bills game will be the one and only appropriate answer.

Last time ghost was ir’d I believe his replacement shayne graham didn’t miss a kick. Bb will find a decent option. Tough guy to replace though whenever he was healthy. Wonder if Bailey takes over on KO duties so we can focus on accuracy with the replacement

Anyone but Chris Blewitt.

Again, that's ridiculous. Players play with injuries all the time, and those injuries can obviously hamper performance. Anyone who's ever played sports understands that.

Of course they can. Edelman played with hurt ribs this week and it sure looked like it hampered his performance. He was listed on the injury report and there was real debate on if he could or should play this week.

We have a lot of information on injuries like those. We don't have a lot on Gost. All we know is he was banged up. He wasn't forced as far as I know to sit out a single practice in the regular season. He was able to make kicks and kick out the back of the endzone up until he got hurt (or more hurt) in game. He made several kicks and so he was able to kick effectively at times. He wasn't ever listed on the injury report or considered questionable or probable for a game. They never felt the need to bring in anyone else or sit him for a game before his injury.

That is all I know. That is all i think anyone on this board knows as far as I know. Going by that I feel strongly he should have done the job better before he was injured in game.

Gost made 11 of 15 XPs this year. If his injury was so debilitating it makes one wonder how he was able to make 11 XPs. He hit plenty of touch backs too. It wasn't like he was shanking kick offs consistently. If that was the case I would be more inclined to believe he was more affected by what he was going though pre injury. That seems not to be the case.

Should have had the surgery ... oh well.

Ghost was a phenomenal kicker back in the day, but he was not even close to his peak this year. Time to move in a different direction. Next year draft a rookie in round 4

You're judging a player's play by whether or not they showed up on a practice injury list. That's just you talking out of your ass. Be better than that.

Made up injury.

A hip problem for a kicker IS an excuse. Christ, instead of dumping on the guy who happened to hit on 87% of his FG, why not praise him for making that many DESPITE his injury.

His misses have cost the Pats a possible 7 points this season. Looking at the stats I'd say 4-6 was the average. Only 3 kickers haven't missed a kick this year so far. Clearly not his best year, but given what we know now, probably better than we should have expected.

Well Kai Forbath is available. I remember him kicking a clutch FG in the playoffs for Minnesota a couple years ago against the Saints.

Three seconds left in Super Bowl LIV. Bears lead 16-15 and the Patriots’ kicker Cody Parkey is stepping on the field for a final play of the game! It’s a 43-yd attempt on the right hash mark. Hard Rock stadium is on its feet! The ball is in the air… hits left upright, right upright, left upright again, falls to the crossbar… IT’S GOOD! Patriots are once again Super Bowl Champions!!!
