Patriots OTA's 5-31-2022

Question about Mac's throwing:

While there is call for a "stronger" arm, does Mac's high arc on the deep (which, high arc=more hang time=longer pass to completion interval) suggest that it's actually a mechanic in the way he throws deep? (Suggesting that, it's not just strength)

Would love some insight! Any kind of breakdown on general throwing mechanics is also appreciated
I think it’s his preference in how to throw it.

Mac's long throws have a very similar arc to Brady's. Remember the tweet that showed a side by side comparison of almost identical long throws by Brady and Mac? Unfortunately, the twitter account that had the video has been deleted, but folks wrote about it:

One a throw from Brady against Chicago, the other by Jones against the Jets. Thrown from almost the exact same yard line, traveling the exact same distance. Same play, same result (no touchdown). Jones’s delivery a little quicker, Brady with his signature fluid long-armed throw. Still, when run side-by-side it’s hard not to ask, “Which is the kid and which is The GOAT?”

Agholor didn’t have much space towards the sideline, maybe a foot or two; there definitely wasn’t room for him to break that route into a corner post and I don’t Agholor nor Jones were expecting that route to be anything other than a ‘go’.

The ball was, maybe, 5-10% underthrown, Agholor could’ve given a bit more effort to meet the ball, and Hyde made a extraordinarily good play on the ball. The vast majority of the credit (or blame, if you will) for that play should go to Hyde, not Jones nor Agholor.
I actually think Jones was late on the throw. Otherwise it's a TD

This may have been discussed/posted already but I didn't see it so....
....From today's Herald article by Guregian:

Beyond the play-caller, there’s now more intrigue with the actual offense. During an interview with NESN on Thursday, wideout Kendrick Bourne suggested the players on offense were learning a “new system” with new language.

“New words, new terminology. That’s the biggest thing,” Bourne said. “Football is football; I say it all the time. It’s lines on the paper, and you follow the lines, but at the end of the day, you’ve got to be a football player, and you have to sometimes adjust. You can’t just follow the exact line and get covered. You have to be a savvy football player.

The Athletic makes it clear it's the same system, just simplified terminology involving less memorization, so as to make it easier for everyone not named Brady to master.

That's right. It's the terminology that is changing.

“Really just new terminology, new words,” "It’s all kind of the same. Just different terminologies. Joe has different words he uses. Different terms. Football is football and it’s just about knowing the new words, taking the old ones away and applying the new ones" Bourne said

Could be as simple as reducing the options on the routes to a shallow vs deep or a left vs right situation... Makes sense given that the coaches could be just as confused as the players otherwise...

You starting a new Mandatory Mini-camp thread or maybe revising title on this one?

Yeah a new one for tomorrow is a good idea. You can fire it up if you want...makes no difference to me.

Probably has as much to do with building around a new guy too. Right or wrong it makes no sense to constantly try and do it Tom/Josh's way if the people here now instinctively see it different. It could be that the old way was safer or better in some way but if Mac and the new WR can come up with something new and see it together then it's more likely to succeed then forcing the old way. And I'm sure as they grow they'll find things that work the old way too.

Jameson Williams: 6'2 179lbs.

With more college production than BoneyT ever dreamt of having, and against better competition.

And I would not have drafted Williams (or any other WR) in the first round either.
