Patriots Minicamp 6-8-2022

Evan Lazar pointed out he noticed Mac had more "zip" and "velocity" on his ball. The buzzwords we've been waiting to hear all offseason. He also said although Mac was only in shorts, he was still impressed by what he saw:

All the people who said Mac was "a reach at 15" and "had a weak arm" or a "peashooter" all the way into preseason before having to eat crow in the regular season... they're going to stand by their narrative.

He was doughy, not muscular, he needed to get his entire body in better shape, pro football shape... but he made every throw last year. He needed to build endurance, stop acting like an amateur. There are some guys like Hoyer who will never throw the deep out accurately or with any mustard, they become career backups. Mac made tight window throws last year, completed two near 50 yard completions that were all air yards... he made every throw.

I love his commitment to fitness, he should play around 220 pounds so he can bulk up more between now and the regular season... get stronger still. Assuming health the team around him should be that much better as well, I love this rebuilding team. They need to stay healthy, execute and young guys need to emerge. The foundation is set, now frame it, and throw up some walls.

I don't recall really anybody saying he was a reach at 15 as he was regularly mocked to the Pats at that slot.
So in the entirety of the world, there was nobody who didn't like the player?

People should remember that many people thought Marvin Harrison was too thin and frail.

As I recall he had a decent career.

Nixon's size and athleticism is very similar to Agholor, Tre leaving college was about ten pounds lighter but he had good strength for a WR. Both have low 4.4 speed, with similar explosion and mobility.

Hopefully he is a better route runner and understands the game better than Agholor did as a young player... and Nixon did as a rookie, where he looked lost.

Super-weapons more often than not get developed, they don't just appear out of the mists.

Athletic comparisons:

Nelson Agholor
6'0" 200
4.42 Forty
12 Reps
36.5 Vert
125" Broad
4.34 Shuttle
6.83 Cone

Tre Nixon
6'0" 187
4.44 Forty
18 Reps
35.5 Vert
125" Broad
4.25 Shuttle
6.81 Cone

Stefon Diggs
6'0" 195
4.46 Forty
11 Reps
35.0 Vert
115" Broad
4.11 Shuttle
7.03 Cone

Malcolm Mitchell
6'0" 198
4.45 Forty
15 Reps
36.0 Vert
129" Broad
4.34 Shuttle
6.94 Cone

His freshman year before he left Ole Miss he was on a squad with A.J. Brown, Van Jefferson, D.K. Metcalf and Dawson Knox. So obviously his coach could recruit weapons.

I’ll be looking forward to Mac taking a 2nd year jump, while Colin Kaepernick....i mean Trey Lance is still holding a clipboard because he can’t beat out Jimmy Jag G.
Well, he isn't holding a clipboard because Jimmy is out after his shoulder surgery. But I watched some video of him throwing, and I'll be very surprised if he ends up anything other than a JAG.

Nobody thought he was a reach at 15. He was the 5th QB taken in what was considered a strong QB draft. Everyone said the reason he dropped was his "lack of athleticism". From what I can tell he's a late bloomer and has a ton of upside growth, with a competitive chip in his shoulder. Reminds me of someone else

I’m sure there were 2 idiots who never saw him play said that.

Before the draft we had big arguments about this. By draft time most had agreed that Mac was ok at 15 although there was considerable complaining by many here, not mentioning names, who thought Bill was an idiot for not trading up to get Justin Fields

And how much tackling actually goes on at mini camp? Any?
You realize this is supposed to be funny right. Venecol just posts them because he is trying to show how stupid we are for getting excited about the team this early. It makes him feel better about the fact the Patriots seem to be on the right path, without Tom.

TE’s get hurt, Henry has an injury history. They always carry 5-6 WR’s. They always carry 3 TE’s and a FB, Jonnu is now the FB.
If you count Slater as a WR sure. You're historically accurate.

A tad surprised he didn't move it into the fieldhouse.

That must be some rain for him to cancel. Thanks.

I feel like he pretty routinely cancels the last day of mini-camp, as long as he feels like everyone took the first two days seriously, almost like a reward. I think the rain is just a convenient excuse.

"Alright guys it's gonna be a good day of practice, gonna get some work out there in the elements, build some mental toughness---wait... who df greenlighted a N'keal interview today? That's it, everybody out. Go home. All of you. Now."
