We don't need Josh per se, we need someone like him, good OC, able to make in game decisions and is creative in his play calling.
Like Brian Schottenheimer

It was funny, sad, yet encouraging to hear the loud cheer from the crowd after Maye's 1st completed pass.

What is up with the end of game run the clock out without trying too hard BS? Treat it like a practice to get experience with time management. Then again, they were probably just happy that Maye survived, so I understand why they did it. Still really sucks as a fan.
Yep, the Patriots organization and team has a loser’s mentality now. You’re supposed to fight until the end. Every play, every point matters if you’re in contention (tiebreakers, etc.), and if you don’t play that way you poison the whole thing.

That’s probably the most shocking thing about the new Patriots: Mayo hasn’t brought the do your job, no mistakes, compete on every play mindset that BB had. Instead he brought the looser, feel good style which has brought us to this point.

I'm reading this thread, other than this post and maybe one other, I have to think that the posters here weren't at this game. Most of us at the game were disgusted at the one-sided calls against the Patriots.

This was the worst officiated game I've ever seen in person. The Texans were given every possible break that allowed them to break out to a 14 point lead. How can any team compete when this happens? Two totally bogus DPI calls. The one in the endzone was particularly bogus because not only was the contact minimal, the ball was un-catchable. On top of that, the Texans got away with so much more holding than the Patriots. And what was up with the missed facemask penalty?? They call that and maybe Maye doesn't have to drop back for that sack/fumble?

I was seriously wondering if the refs were on the take. It was that bad.
SCBS had Gene Steretore in the booth and even he said, on the end zone “PI” that he had no idea what they were looking at. He’s the ultimate league toadie / ref defender on TV.

There weren’t many holes. The OL was bad.

The play calling and coaching suck too. We can not run a screen play - that is a coaching failure. Our only jet sweep all year was to Polk, one of the slower WRs - that is a coaching failure. When was the last successful WR screen out wide - this is a coaching failure. When the opposing team knows that the Pats will only run between the tackles, the opposing defensive tackles jump the snap count and there are 8 guys in the box - this is all a coaching failure.

Remember talk of the new and mysterious "AVP offensive system"? What a load of BS. AVP sucks hind tit. Did you see the Lions offense against the Cowboys?

4 sacks allowed and our run game couldn't get going at all.

This game wasn't close. But Drake Maye did show glimpses of his arm talent.

I just pray he survives the season. We're not going to win games when the OL can't do it's job and the running game isn't at least dependable.

That's way too much pressure to put on Maye's shoulders.

The only silver lining is he didn't get seriously hurt and we have a winnable game against JAX next week.

I've never seen PI called on a DB covering a receiver not thrown too. That to me would seem automatic uncatchable when the QB throws elsewhere.

I suppose maybe they meant Illegal contact or defensive holding but I didn't see that either. One of the most baffling calls I recall ever seeing.

You forgot the blatant face mask penalty on the play before the strip sack. Don’t tell me the fumble would have occurred anyway if it that hadn’t been missed. This was the worst most lopsided officiating since the Jerome Bogar screw job against the Chiefs in December 19th which I witnessed.

I watch most non Pats games as well. Officiating is horribly game to game and week to week across the game. The games are so inconsistently called and always seem to favor one team over the other. Funny how it’s always the hot heavily marketed teams that get the calls. The Pats wouldn’t have won today if the game had been evenly officiated. The Texans are a good, physical and nasty team on offense and defense and dominated the line of scrimmage, but the game would have been more competitive and the loss less infuriating.
We saw it at home too, was yelling about it all game, terrible, when the Pats scored their first TD it should have been 7-6 Pats.

I knew halfway through season 1 that Mac wasn't that guy. He was serviceable, but he wasn't HIM. Year 2, sealed the deal and 3 just affirmed that.

Maye in one game, is HIM. Now he needs to keep developing and learning and growing. As some have said unlocking Pop, Boutte is huge. If Polk can start catching something then they might have something.
I guess when he cried and he had to grab his hand pulling him off the field was the red flag

Ehhh, agree but nothing lofted yet. Defense getting worse, coaching is very suspect. Borderline fraudulent.
At the games beginning, the offense struggled placing pressure on the NE defense. As Maye gains experience he will hopefully have more control of the game.

Based on the results so far, Steve B's play calling is also missed. There is still time for the current regime to figure it out.
That play calling (and man bun) gave up 40 points to Iowa on Saturday.

I don’t know if Jerod Mayo, Alex Van Pelt, or Demarcus Covington are up to their jobs or not. Nor, do I know if Eliot Wolf can build a good team or not. We’ll all find out, and, I assert, that anyone who believes they know now is just defending their previously conceived opinion.

As I remember, at this point last season, the Patriots were also 1-5 coming off horrible losses to the Cowboys and Saints, so spare me the longing for the old regime that some of you just can’t get past. I know it was all Mac Jones’ fault. The Belichick Excuse Making and Blame Casting Society never quits. Remember when you all said those bad drafts were Nick Caserio’s fault. How’s that looking these days.

You are just making yourself miserable. The Krafts aren’t selling, and “Thunder Cat” ain’t bouncing his chosen one after one season. Nothing is forever; it was an incredible run but it really ended long before it ended. Let it go.
