Here's another IF. Can the notoriously ill-tempered Pickens keep it together? He had some blow ups last year.

And he was a big mess at Georgia, from frequent violation of team rules to fighting to car accidents. He was banned for the 1st half of the Georgia Tech game for team rules violations, gets on the field, starts a fight, gets tossed out for the LSU game the following week, etc. then more rules violations.

His coach called him selfish and immature. I mean, this... "We're going to help George. We're going to help him grow up. "

1st round talent, 10 cent head.
Can't have all Choir boys on the Football field it's not a Debating society. Let's Draft the Harry's and Wynn’s of the world because they interview well. We NEED some Diva players on this Team in the mold of Jack Jones.

Yes it is a fact that Nick Caserio was bad at leading the Pats draft. Caserio is in TX and the new management has done well over the last 3 years. Your take is dated, shows no knowledge of the present situation, and lacks awareness. That's a fact.
My take is dated if TThornton end up sucking it won't.

Even if Thornton sucks, the new team drafted 3 out of 4 which is a 75% success which is an outstanding performance. Even if Thornton sucks your take misunderstands the present situation. Caserio left to go to TX years ago. How did you miss that since you make a 100 posts a day on Patsfans?

These types of players are useless for Belichick.

We already know that. They get suspended. They corrode team unity.

Will Levis watch - Dude could go #1 overall to Panthers now?

If you are the Patriots and you're moving up with the Texans would you rather get Will Levis or Bryce Young at #2?

So based on a Reddit rumor, the Pats will draft Bryce Young since a Reddit rumor also claims Levis will go #1?
I think I cracked the ****ing code on this one.

The reddit rumor says it is sourced from "a former Director of Player Personnel at Alabama."

I did some googling and found that the last DPP at Alabama before the current guy was Jody Wright. Hmm, doesn't sound familiar, but I'll google around a bit. What did I find on Jody Wright?

Jody Wright was a defensive assistant for ...... *drumroll* ...... Joe Judge, when he was the HC of the Giants.... and he also worked with Joe Judge at Mississippi State and Alabama.....

That kind of... adds up. Joe Judge leaking a Mac trade to someone he knows? That's definitely something that would happen.

From what I've heard, Joe Judge and Mac Jones did not get along very well last season. Then again let's remember it was BB's decision to name the FAILED head coach of the Giants as Mac's 'QB whisperer'. I have a feeling Mac Jones definitely felt the difference between Josh McDaniels in his ear and the two stooges of Matt Patricia and Joe Judge trying to tell him how to run an NFL offense.

Again, I'm not letting Mac Jones off the hook, but let it sink in that a guy who nearly ruined Daniel Jones' career and led the Giants to back to back #31 overall offense rankings, was named QB coach of the New England Patriots by Bill Belichick.

Another reason why Joe Judge should not be on this football team whatsoever. His continued presence is 100% on Bill, and paraphrasing Harry Truman, the buck stops with him.

People don't value more traditional pocket passers any less or more today. This is what a certain crowd doesn't comprehend. It's just about what you're given to work with in terms of evaluation. There's just a lot less of those guys around compared to years past. They're just not coming down the pipeline like they used to be. Few and far between. More "system" or "safer" guys that are tied to a specific scheme like Goff, Baker, Mac along with more athletes. Coaches have been putting the best athletes at QB for the last 20-30 years a lot more than in years past.

This isn't true either unless you just started watching college ball in the last 20-30 years. 60-90's certainly weren't dominated by duel threats. They really started creeping into the game in the 90's. Before that they were few and far between. Coaches didn't start to really trust these guys before the 2010's.

That's not what "upside" means.

The NFL has traditionally shunned dual threat QB schemes because of the injury risk to running skills and the pre-salary cap benefits of longevity in the QB position.

High school and the majority of college offenses have always run dual threat athletes at QB; a large percentage of NFL players at all positions were high school dual-threat QB's because they were the best athletes.

Are you saying the Brady's and Manning's are no longer entering football? Or that they are being discriminated against at all levels of football because of a cyclical change in scheme fit preference? Or are you saying they never were really that great because were beneficiaries of a system of schemes that suppressed the rightful competition from dual threat QB's?

So walk me through what would happen if a Tom Brady were entering college football today. He wouldn't be able to make a college team because of his limited athleticism and would be out of football early on? Or if he made a college program he would fail because his skills are no longer important? And then he wouldn't even get drafted this time, or would fail to make an NFL team altogether because of poor scheme fit?

You think that would be a good thing for football?

You sat here watching Tom Brady dominate football for 20 years; are you really now saying he's a dinosaur that was the product of a system that suppressed superior dual threat talent forced to play other positions?

I suggest you avoid that dancing on his grave until some of these new-style dual threat QB's actually win something in the NFL, let alone for a decade or more.

Coming from a Pats fan, this is a bizarre dystopian fantasy

I can see an argument where starting over with a 1st round QB makes sense. If they think there's a ceiling on Mac, they don't like the personality fit, or something like that, the roster is definitely constructed to basically hit "reset". The team is built to be relatively successful in 2023 with a highly drafted rookie - two pretty decent tight ends, a receiver group that has a lot of fairly solid guys, and a rock solid back in Stevenson. They can play "safe" football in 2023 and ride the defense. In 2024, the Pats have an exorbitant amount of cap space just like year 1 with Mac, and for several reasons the AFC East will likely be softer. It would be more of a long-term play though. I have a hard time seeing that when Kraft wants progress right now.

LOL, seriously people?? Reddit???

Not at the cost of a plug in Starter. We want players who can step in and Start early on I am all for targeting a certain player.
Who in their range do you ol believe is a plug and play starter?

Even worse, Felger referencing a Reddit quote about a rumor? I heard this last night on the Felger show and could not believe what I was hearing. Two of the worst sources of information in combination. It could not possibly have a grain of truth, right? But, now I have to wonder; nice research there Ross12. I have a lot of respect for Michael Holley so it might be real....yikes.

I, for one, hope this is not true. I hope that BB is not so petty as to dump his promising, young QB because the QB questions his dubious coaches last season. Dump a guy that was almost rookie of the year and give up two first round picks for an untested new QB. Yikes. Wouldn't it be easier to dump Joe Judge?

This is indeed the hottest Patriots rumor I have heard in years (or the most ridiculous)..but it seems insane; why not just pick up Hendon Hooker in the second if you want to go this route?

The word is most of the bad rumors about Jones coming out of Foxboro are coming from Judge. Bedard has basically accused Breer getting misinformation from Judge about how the Patriots feel there is little difference between Zappe and Jones. Bedard doesn’t mention Judge by name, but said the source has an ax to grind against Jones.

I think you completely misunderstood the intent behind the post.

One could easily reverse engineer such a rumor by, say, going to Troy State where Cole Popovich is a OL coach, digging to find who his former video/media assistant is, tracking the kid down to the car wash where he works now in Orlando, Florida, and then reporting that the Patriots intend to draft a guard and move Cole Strange to Center (as rumored by someone with inside info who happens to work at a car wash in Orlando). Felger will enterprisingly do the research and find the connection between the kid and Popovich. And voila, you have your Reddit rumor.

Another ridiculous aspect to this rumor is that I am not that keen on Levis (but who am I to judge this guy?). Sure Levis has a chiseled chin, but he bird-dogs his WRs and his ponderous scrambles will get him killed in the NFL.....now if Bryce Young was to drop, well that is a different story; then I could almost see it...almost

It's almost a catch-22 in regards to the Texans pick. If the guy who falls to #2 overall isn't a guy the Texans like, it's unlikely the Patriots would like that guy enough to trade all the way up there. But if a guy who the Patriots LOVE falls to #2, is Caserio going to pass on him? It's not like Davis Mills is more entrenched in Houston than Mac is here. I think this rumor is some combination of people throwing crap against the wall, and the lead up to the draft being 90% smokescreens. Can't trust any reports from anyone right now.

Ok I have looked extensively at WR's in this Draft that I think fit what we are doing. IF BB drafts somebody I don't know Tonight I'm Done and TV is going through the window so glad OC BOB is on board so here goes.

Wide Receivers that Fit Patriots system
Sure First Rounders

1) Jordan Addison = Would take @ 14

2) Flowers = Ditto

3)JNS = Ditto

4)Quentin Johnston = Ditto

These are the early on guys Second Round Top of Third.

5) Josh Downs = Would take @ 46

6) Marvin Mims = Ditto

7) Jayden Reed = Ditto

8) J Mingo = Ditto

9) Tank Dell = Julian Edelman and Welker reincarnated

9)Charlie Jones = Julian Edelman and Welker reincarnated I would love a REACH in the Second for Jones screw the value system BB have taken the approach many times throw back player.

Now these are Players who could be Tempting based on their workouts and College Production Bigger WR's too.

Cedric Tillman

Trey Palmer

Rashee Rice

Xavier Hutchinson

AT Perry

Michael Wilson
That's how I hope their WR Board looks as you can see there's a lot of depth there. The Patriots have been quiet on certain Players I think a double dip @ WR is quite possible with our amount of picks. I hope we fix our WR Draft deficiency in this Draft.

I don't think Bill has the luxury of getting another rookie QB and a probable losing season. I think this is someone listening to Judge badmouth Jones and the telephone game leads to "The Pats are thinking of trading Mac to move up in round 1."
