Patriots Host QB Will Levis as Part of Their Top 30 Visits

This is my GM strategy you are only keeping top 10 players at there position and recycling everything else unless you can get team friendly deals.

Any team that offers Mac a contract over 10 mill a season is brain dead.

This is my argument for drafting a QB those 4 or 5 year controllable contracts are the most valuable thing in cap management.

QBs I could see us taking,

Levis, Richardson first round

Hooker, second round

Tune, mid round

And a host of late round flyer QBs.

There is no doubt we are raking at least 1 QB in this draft that’s good business.

The problem with this is that a top 10 WR or Cornerback is now a prohibitive cost, It would be great to keep them but at 20 million a year you can’t afford it. And forget 10 million a year for Jones, if he’s still the starter when his contract comes due they will be looking for 40 million per, and short of him magically becoming Brady no one here would want to see them give him that kind of money. And that’s not a shot at Jones, it’s the reality league wide. There are only a handful of QB’s that should get that kind of cash, and unfortunately for Patriot fans most are in the AFC. The only answer that I can see to it is a paradigm shift to running your franchises like college programs, where the talent is a revolving door, and you run simpler schemes and win on athleticism

Malcolm Mitchell was one of the few WR picks they hit on, had he not suffered what ended up being a career-ending knee injury. Kid was terrific, until he got hurt, albeit I guess he did have knee issues. I get why you highlighted his name, but it just sort of kills me to see it highlighted with N'Keal Harry. Mitchell at least helped them win a ring. Harry...not so much.
Antonio Garcia doesn't belong on that list either, since a friggin' blood clot in the lung is no more predictable than Nate Solder getting testicular cancer.

Depends on if that QB makes us a winning franchise or not.
If anything it buys Bill at least 2 more seasons and you get a rookie contract on a QB which Si the most valuable thing in all of sports.

If Christian Gonzalez or Will Levis is there I would be torn.

I would love a trade down into the mid 20s to draft a db or wr this draft has a lot of depth in the middle rounds.

Sure, but the problem is that there's no QB in this draft that is clearly going to be better than Mac Jones. There's "potential," but they all have question marks. And drafting a QB in the first round for the second time in three years guarantees that one of them will end up a wasted pick in a way that even Bijan Robinson wouldn't.

Also, I disagree on your point that it would buy Bill more time: the problem was that he had a rookie QB that had a top-10 season and then failed to build on that momentum when McDaniels left. Why on earth should Kraft say "OK, you can just start over again with someone else"?

Let me add one more possible reason for bringing in Levis, from Mike Reiss.

The Patriots’ reported visit with Kentucky quarterback Will Levis last week was a homecoming of sorts, as Levis . . . attended high school in Connecticut. It is unclear whether that counted as one of the visits teams are allowed with local-based prospects (like when the Patriots met with Massachusetts-born Purdue quarterback Austin Burton) or if it counted against the 30 visits teams are allowed with non-local prospects.

I think Belichick has a retirement date set at this point, and it will likely leave a little short of Shula’s wins record. He’s not Parcells, he’s not going to tell Kraft that he will decide on a drive to Florida after the season ends. It’s becoming clearer by the day that Mayo is the head coach in waiting, and while he’s not going to wait forever I do think he will be patient. The reason being that while he could take a HC job elsewhere it wouldn’t come with the kind of job security he will get from working for the Kraft’s, and with an organization already in place, as opposed to working for ownership that he doesn’t know, and having to build an entire infrastructure himself. My best guess is that 2024 will be Belichick’s last season as HC, and Groh will become head of football operations, and Mayo the new HC. I doubt Belichick will stick around, We will see?

Not trying to single out Malcolm Mitchell but it's quite shocking how bad those top-30 visit picks turned out when you look at them. Isn't checking the medicals one of the biggest focus areas of these visits? For the Patriots to miss the signs of bad physical health when you've had a chance to run the tape measure over these guys personally is really their own fault.

LOL, I know - that one is just tough. I thought they dodged a bullet with him as it was considering the dislocation he suffered with his elbow in the preseason that year. Just crazy that it ultimately turned out the way it did.

I watched some Will Levis highlights last night and no thanks. He may look the part with his chiseled chin, etc., but he bird dogs his WRs. NFL safeties will steal his lunch money. While he might have been effective running and bulling his way downfield in college, it will get him killed in the NFL.

Mac has a better arm and quicker release...and does not do suicidal scrambles.

Mac Jones absolutely does not have a better arm than Will Levis, come on now.

OK, I should qualify that; Mac has a more accurate arm than Levis...OK, I don't actually have enough evidence to back that up, but I feel that Mac has an arm that is as accurate as anyone, maybe not the power and velocity, but he is accurate...when not running for his life, ahem. Mac has a quick read and release, but Levis stares at his receiver the the whole way (bird-dogging) which NFL-caliber safeties will kill him on.

What do you think of Hooker?

Had not seen him before, so I just watched 30 seconds of him (ha) and WOW! Holey smokes he has a strong arm, good mobility, and a very quick read (able to look off the safety). Where the heck is he projected to go? Top of Day 2? It would be painful if the Patriots had to pass over this guy, but they have more pressing needs.

I’m staring to like Hooker, Tune, McKee, Dorian, Bagent as QBs later on for us.
I think all of them have more raw tools than what’s in the tool box currently.

I must have done 100 mock drafts I think today maybe my favorite.

Love the Houston connection with Tune.

And complaining about 6th/7th round draft picks who could not make a Super Bowl quality roster

I say if Hendon Hooker is around @46 we shouldn't pass.

McKee seems like a statute like Bledsoe and Mallet in the pocket maybe on Day 3 no earlier. On Tyson Bagent I am very intrigued.

As I am watching Hooker, I am saying to myself, who the heck is this number 11 he is throwing to? I want him too! I looked him up; his name Jalin Hyatt. Hyatt looks like he can fly--he just walks away from SEC CBs! I checked his 40 time, 4.40, excellent, but I think that there is more to it than that since he appears to be able to accelerate on the fly like few I have seen (Waddle could do that).

I am sure you guys are rolling your eyes and know all about Hyatt, but it was a interesting discovery for me. I doubt BB will draft him, but I would hate to see him in a Miami or Buffalo uniform.

Hyatt and Forbes (CB) would be my dream draft...
