Given the fact that Mac Jones is at best a mid level backup even if the last 8 games fell off what Josh was able to do with him that year is pretty impressive
It's not really impressive is it, i see Sam Darnold who quite frankly sucks functioning at a level way beyond any non Brady QB did for McDaniels.

Anyone could of been a good coordinator for Brady, it's like Mahomes remember Eric Bienemy everyone thought he was good now he can't get on a staff cause everyone knows it wasn't him.

NO TO MCDANIELS, move on from this system that's 10 years out of date it'll be for the benefit of everyone.

Agreed there. For those opposing McDaniels I'd say he would take Drake to the next level.
Agreed. And McDaniels will never be a HC again so he will be in place to build an offense around Maye and be here his whole career

I mean he definitely has inside info on Vrabel. How much is new knowledge. I don't think it's some new insight but still very useful.
Yep. I was mainly referring to the Pats FO.

To your point, maybe Vrabes and Bru had a convo...

McDaniels is just more not modernizing the offense and looking outside the Patriots connections, the only positive to McDaniels is he won't leave for a head coaching job the negatives are his system has never functioned at a top half of NFL level without Brady and is complicated for young WRs which are more vital than ever before.

I like the idea of Vrabel paired with the next Ben Johnson or Matt LaFleur as OC he managed it in Tennneesee why can't he find the next one here?

We can get the best of both worlds why do we have to settle for McDaniels it's all too comfortable for me just going pure Patriot ties, i get Vrabel is low risk and leader of men and a good choice but can we get some innovation at coordinator?
For all we know, he might already have a young and genius OC from a major college program to be his OC, or something to that effect. Vrable is too smart to not realize the potential that Maye has and that Maye and the whole Offense needs a true innovator and leader as coordinator and all position coaches. If it is McDaniels, perhaps he has an entirely different offensive approach because of what he has in Maye as opposed to Brady and such. We'll find out soon enough.

Tommy Rees seems to be what you are asking for, the next LaFleur. I am not sure how Vrabel works in Rees and McDaniels, or if he can. Tommy Rees is reported as Vrabels next LaFleur.

Having said that, if we don't draft better and sign FAs, it is all for not.

Bruschi and Vrabel are tight since their playing days, I am sure Bruschi knows plenty.
I wonder if Bru got the scuttlebutt from Kraft.
I am a MEGA fan of this hire, I would have been open to Johnson but Vrabel was my top choice. Loved the guy as a player but also as a coach, I was honestly jealous of the Titans when he was having success there and it seems crazy that he somehow has landed here.

I’m looking forward to Vrabel fixing up the front office, coaching staff, and culture. I actually do think the Patriots have good scouts but don’t have the best folks steering the ship. I don’t think it will take a lot to get that resolved. Better folks at the top and just more folks in general (more analytics, etc).
I firmly belief an organization, whether it be in business, sports, charitable org does not succeed unless there is 100% alignment in leadership.

I am convinced Vrabel can fix that here.

So much for all those people who were scared that Brady could lure Vrabel away from New England
I never understood that theory Brady is a non factor he isn't playing QB, he's just a guy who used to be great working behind the scenes it doesn't make a team with no quarterback and no clear way of getting one in the hardest division in football with 3 playoff teams and 3 hall of fame level coaches more attractive than one with a QB and cap space and an easier division

It's like Michael Jordan didn't make the Hornets attractive.

Two main tasks at this point:

1) Build an experienced, competent cohort of offensive coaches. I'm fine with McDaniels, though the whining if he is chosen will be annoying for week or so. There are, of course, others Vrabel might prefer, which is fine, but we desperately need a proven person for the job.

2) Get rid of Wolf, or at least move him into the Krafts' mansion, where he can serve as Robert's personal binky and keep his nose out of the team's affairs.

I understood the support for Johnson and by a slight margin probably would have preferred that option, but there are solid reasons as well for having chosen Vrabel. This is all very hopeful, it seems to me.

Somebody give Breer a box of hankies.

I think theoretically no one is safe; but if Vrabes fired Springer it would portend for a lot of bad future choices and I would be disappointed.
Springer is nothing special. Vrabel could easily have a better guy.

Hopefully he has enough connections that like him...and honestly, that he's smart enough to keep Van Pelt here at SOME level, assuming Van Pelt agrees. I would like Maye to have at least one familiar voice in his ear from this year where he showed some decent progress.

Completely agree Ross. I know this board rarely has 100% agreement but I do not understand how some are so negative about this hire.
He should have been hired last year. Ben Johnson was a fine 2nd choice but the fit here is so obvious. Unlike Mayo or Johnson...he does not have to learn the job while on the job. He comes in as a finished product.

Just because he has been defensive coach does not mean he can not bring in an innovative OC and take this to the next level.
Its all about offensive personnel.

BB was a defensive coach...he had a pretty good offense
John Harbaugh was a special teams coach, Ravens seem to have a pretty good offense
Todd Bowles is a defensive coach- he has a pretty good offense
Sean McDermott is a defensive coach, Bills have a pretty good offense

If they get the right players...they will have a great offense. It will take a couple of years to get those offense players
They have a huge head start with Maye as qb.
