I'm optimistic but I do feel this is just more of the same. We have been starving for offense for years now. I want our team to have the ability to win a shootout.

Given the fact that Mac Jones is at best a mid level backup even if the last 8 games fell off what Josh was able to do with him that year is pretty impressive
Also did it with Matt Cassel, 3-1 with Garoppolo and Brissett, and an amazing 7-8 with Cam Newton who looked like a shotputter out there.

I think this is a great hire, I’ve hired a lot of folks myself. Sometimes the new shiny penny isn’t all that, while I think Ben Johnson will be a good HC he is the wrong person for this particular job. There is now an adult in the room and I like others think Bruschi has inside info on how this goes down. However I don’t understand the hate with BB guys as an OC, or even the hate with Josh, we had dam great offenses for many years with BB, Charlie, Josh, Bill all did a really good job. Granted they all had Brady and we had some dam solid receivers throughout that time. Maybe Drake is the next star, maybe not, he kinda looks like he could be.
True but Kraft should've waited to interview Johnson in person.
He panicked.
Vrabel is a great hire and will be a great HC, I have no doubt. Just feel like Kraft slacked off on his due diligence.
Vrabel most likely would've been hired anyway but that's not the point.
Pats were the best job by far and Vrabel wasn't going anywhere else.
Id love to play poker with Kraft, I might end up owning the Patriots

In my opinion, there are some people in the front office that need to be told, 'You don't know what you're doing and you need to take a step back.'

...because there are some people upstairs in the organization that want to be heard. And sometimes they're going to have to take a bite of 'Humble Pie' and understand 'your opinion doesn't matter on this one' because there are people in the building that know more.

Tedy B clearly has certain folks in mind. I'd love to know who...

Only thing taking Drake to the next level will be a supporting cast of quality players. Especially a LT for the next 10 years.
100 x more important than who the head coach is.
Get the right players

I'm glad that happened already, there's too much work to be done and we can't wait 4 weeks for Ben Johnson to be free. I know long term trumps short term etc and 4 weeks is nothing in the long term view, but anyway, we would be too late for 2025.

Not to mention that, I think for this moment, Vrabel offers a better chance of doing some foundational work to fix a lot of things deep in the football organization, he must be better prepared for all things football, not saying Ben wouldn't, I'm not even sure he was interested, but I think we made a good choice. I know football is really all about offense right now but if your program is a mess nothing else matters.

Vrabel and company have a lot of work to do, good luck coach Vrabel.

We were 6th in the league in scoring in 2021. Thats pretty damn good.

We had a DC as OC in 2022. Mac fell apart.

We had a broken QB position in 2023.

We now have Drake Maye.

Vrabel was HC of an offense that put up 30ppg.

I don't see gloom and doom here at all.

Just need good coaches and good players.

If Detroit is going all the way you can’t interview with Johnson until the bye week before the SB. Vrabel wasn’t seating on his hands for 3 weeks waiting for the Patriots

I'm in favor of a fresh face at OC and Tommy Rees seems like the upside factor that this organization needs. He could be the future HC if Vrabel isn't long for the job. I imagine he would jump at the chance to be Ohio State's HC some day.

Vrabel was a hot commodity and had MANY teams interested. Maybe Vrabel put pressure on Kraft to get this done quickly if he wanted to hire him, especially after the fiasco last year.

Waiting on an in person interview with Johnson would have been super risky as it might have pushed Vrabel into a hire with another team.

I think Kraft nailed this one.

Schaffer just reported it on Countdown. Brushi just said there are people in the front office in Foxborough that need to be told that you don’t know what you’re doing and this guy is smarter than you. He says Mike will come in and tighten the screws in the organization.

When he was playing here, he would routinely get up in Belichick's face (metaphorically, at least). And Belichick put up with it, because he backed it up with his play. He knew what he was supposed to do, and he knew what his teammates were doing. (Plus he was so versatile that they never had a play design where they had to take him off the field.)

So he made the right decision but it’s wrong because he made it quickly so that asst coach hires and other changes happen faster?
