Patriots CUTS

Not a cut but news:

shalise manza young ?@shalisemyoung 3m
league source said #Patriots asked Michael Hoomanawanui to restructure contract, and @RapSheet reports he has agreed to one

Really disapointed about Benard getting cut instead of the likes of Bequette. Thought he had the potential to be our next Mark Anderson/specialist kind of guy.

You got that from 4 preseason games with him going against scrubs?

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I think he'll clear waivers.

From your lips to God's ears. This would be one of the great Practice Squad coups.

Oh sht mesko got cut. Bb is not playing anymore. Take heed gostowski. Better start playing better or you're outta here

I'm intrigued to see who/if they sign from other teams' castoffs. Pats reportedly still have $13 million in cap space.

Never signed anywhere, but if we do say, cut Adrian Wilson, Kerry Rhodes is still a FA, isn't he?? What's wrong with him??

Most of which is needed to extend their own players long-term (e.g., Ninkovich, McCourty, possibly even Solder).

How well did Invisible Bequette do? And how was he in the witness protection program last year?

I think he will too, if I'm not mistaken, anyone who picks him up has to place him on their final 53 - that's a big jump for someone still raw and unproven.

The Patriots clearly preferred Buchanan in that role. After seeing him be virtually unblockable -- even by the Giants' starting offensive line - on Thursday night, can't really blame them. Benard looked good in practice but was invisible in games.

Exactly. A good performance in the 4th quarter of the 4th preseason game shouldn't make a player a threat to be claimed on waivers.

Actually I got it from the impact he made a couple years back with Cleveland, how he looked pretty good in camp and showed flashes in the preseason, and how he and Anderson had taken very similar career paths. Anderson was a scrub when we signed him too, you know.
And now he is a scrub again, FWIW.

You seem to be rather fixated on a couple of players based upon an extremely limited exposure during a few preseason games. Did Benard really look that good? Did Sims look amazing?

BB has watched them every day in practice for the last 2 months. He may have a bit more to go on then watching 4 preseason games.

Just saying.

Mark Anderson was overrated because of a good playoffs and garbage time stats. Half his regular season sacks came in the last 2 minutes of blowouts. I don't know if 'the next Mark Anderson' is aiming particularly high.

Buchanan looks like he has the potential to be a real stud.

Buchanan was my draft binky. I think he's definitely the closest to an Anderson-style pass rush specialist (with some potential to develop into more). He has far and away the best burst off the line of any Pats DE not named Chandler Jones.

Benard, Bequette and Cunningham were competing to back up Ninkovich, IMO, while Francis is the best for inside/outside flexibility.

Pretty thin comparison. A couple of years ago we had a player that had been good a few years before, we picked him up and he had a good year for us, and now he sucks again. So hopefully this new guy will be the same.

That kind of thing isn't really all that common place.

So far my 53 is intact except for Mesko and Forston. We've gotta be combing the waiver wire for DT help. Paging the Giants, Packers and Browns...

Bequette has looked invisible since he got here in spring of 2012.

Let me ask you, what about Jake Bequette has impressed you so far (other than he's very well spoken)?

Is it official that Winn was cut? I saw speculation on boston.com.

How about Allen the CB? He seemed good on his one KR.
