Patriots CUTS

Cole is no Ace Special teamer regardless of what anyone says..

You're entitled to your opinion. But given that they've already jettisoned a couple core ST guys in Rivera and Koutouvides, combined with Cole's performance last night, it appears he's in a comfortable position right now.

Not to sound disrespectful but you should really start watching the special teams units if you believe that to be true, Cole was responsible for 3-4 impact plays on special teams last year.

Rivera wasn't a "core" special teams player. He was a fill in for Tarpinian who was a fill in for Fletcher.

Koutivedes is being replaced by Beauharnais.

So, not sure how you can say that Cole is comfortable. I could easily see the Pats jettisoning Cole for a different CB who can also play STs.

Dude...trust me if BB is keeping Tebow on the roster....there is a REASON for it!!! I think sometimes people get a little too small minded on a guy like Tebow. He may be working on some goal line "Mike Vrabel" receiving practice drills....he may be brought in as a FB ...he might come in sometimes as a decoy...or to run the wildcat! If ANYONE can get something out of this kid...it is Belichick! Firs and foremost Tebow is a FOOTBALL PLAYER, great teammate, and will do whatever is asked of him (aka A great PATRIOT!) Don't think of him as unseating TB...or even mallett...think of him as a Good, hard working FOOTBALL player that BB feels may be able to help this team. .....

Now that having been said...who knows what BB is thinking right now...and Tebow could still be cut....BUT...if he is here....embrace the kid...and TRUST IN BELICHICK!!!!

Sure. Good for him. But is it good for the Patriots?

Seriously? Another thread goes Full Tebow?

Sure. Good for him. But is it good for the Patriots?

Depends on what they use him for. If he's a scout team quarterback to give the defense looks against the read option, then that's fine by me. Benard showed absolutely nothing in preseason, for example. So if they're keeping Tebow over a guy like that, then fine. But if they have some sort of package that they're going unveil where Tebow actually throws the ball or even comes into the game, I don't like it.

Heh. Okay, we'll see in an hour or so, won't we?

The analogue is not "a different CB who can also play STs." The analogue is "a different CB who can also play STs at a very high level."

So Cunningham is "gone" huh?

3-4 impactful plays?? Should I be impressed with that? I'm not. Do you even realize how many Special Teams plays that Cole is on each year? Well over 200. So having only 3-4 impactful plays on special teams mans nothing.

You tell me to watvh special teams, yet you totally ignore the fact that Cole was one of the ones who blew the coverage on the long return by San Fran and also on the long return by Baltimore. In both cases, Cole left his lane of containment and ended up cutting off another Patriot, which caused that one to lose containment also.

Sorry, but the lovefest you have for Cole is so badly misplaced.

So Tebow got cut? oh well...he gave it a shot.

edit********* crap I fell for it? lol im so confused... stop toying with my emotions!

Except that Cole doesn't play special teams at a very HIGH level. He was one of the lesser special teams players last year. Well behind Rivera, Slater, Ebner and others. Special Teams play wise, imho, he was in the bottom 3 with Koutivedes and Brandon Bolden.

He might stick around because of his ST contributions on top of the fact that the Pats are very thin at CB at the moment.

Uh huh. Whatever you say.

If he's not, then he must have some pretty damning pictures of the coaching staff in the showers at Gillette. There's no reason why he shouldn't be gone.

That's what a Practice Squad QB is for.

Honestly, you want a guy on the 53 whom you never want to see in a game????

Did you actually write that????

Judging from the response on this thread, there are several people who do not share your opinion of Cole.

You are entitled to your opinion.

Tebow doesn't have practice squad eligibility. Fire off some names that we can add onto the practice squad this year that will give them better looks against the read option than Tebow will and maybe we can have an actual discussion. There are some rookies that I would be interested in, but I haven't seen anything in the way of them getting cut quite yet.

I bet more than a few of them were the same ones calling for Slater to be cut... And Izzo to be cut.. etc. etc..

I didn't call for Slater to be cut. I just didn't want him returning kicks, running full speed into his blockers/the gunner from the other team, and fumbling the football. As a gunner, he's an asset.
