Has there been any corroboration of the PFT claim that Meriweather has been or will be cut? They throw so much stuff out there I have a hard time believing any of their rumors.

Belichick won't cut off his nose to spite his face but he knows in the long term cutting Meriweather makes his team stronger by using Meriweather as an example to others.

Meriweather may have been acquitted this summer but he was still hanging with the wrong crowd. Other players will take note and stay out of the non- football headlines.

"Acquitted" means tried and found not guilty. No charges were ever filed.

PFT (and Rapoport) are both still incorrect often enough in their quest to be the first to break a story that I have a tendency to doubt them until I see it reported independently by someone else.

I think this is a good point. What I find surprising was that the cut signified that BB did not think it worth it to let Meriweather play one more year, then let him go, and at least get a comp pick out of that.

One other point: so far, it doesn't look like any team has been willing to trade for anyone, anywhere; I guess with the number of players being cut, teams are willing to take their chances. [That said, if Meriweather is being cut, he's a UFA, and is not subject to waivers.]

Every reporter is sometimes wrong. Nothing wrong with wanting a second source.

PFT is certainly in the game with a gigantic number of credible sources these days, especially since they carry the ever-important NBC label now.

We'll see if you're still saying that when Chung goes down with an injury (when, not if) and they're picking up guys off the street to START. Meriweather is not all world, but at least he's been around and knew the system...sort of.

I think BB has something up his sleeve! Its either Darrren Sharper will be signed. He is a playmaker and is not a distraction or cancer in the locker room!! OR there might be a trade of some sort for a safety.

He wasn't the best... he could be great, but really inconsistent. I only hate to see him go because we are so thin at safety, and he knew the system. We shall see.

I can't say it surprises me one bit that he's been cut, but I don't like the move at all. He was durable and knew the system, though he seldom played disciplined football.
