Quite surprised to say the least...

What's surprising to me is that all of the safety guys that we had are now gone. Not understanding why ALL of Sanders, Meriweather, Page, or McGowan are no longer here.

Also surprised that Meriweather couldn't get us a mid to late rd pick in a trade. Not everyday that you see a 2 time pro-bowler who was taken in the first-rd NOT attracting even a late rd pick.

Admittedly, it wouldn't be the first time BB completely bollixed a position (see: TE, 2009, where the Pats ended up with c*** at TE and a lost draft pick).

Does that mean next year we get the safety equivalents of Gronk and Hernandez?

If they didn't like Meriweather, why on earth did they cut Sanders, too?

Because Sanders was awful. That was clearly on display during that horrific game against the lions. Why should BB keep a player who is ineffective?

I wonder if the emphasis of penalising hits on defenseless receivers has a part to play in Merriweather's release. Maybe the Patriots thought he was now a greater liabilty as a a result.

Has there been any corroboration of the PFT claim that Meriweather has been or will be cut? They throw so much stuff out there I have a hard time believing any of their rumors.

Right, one couldn't tackle to save his life and the other couldn't cover to save his. Both are flawed players whose names are bigger than their games.

Honestly how is Sanders any better than Sergio Brown at this point? If he is at all, it's not $2.5 million better. If Barrett or Moldin or Dowling can tackle at all, they are an improvement on Meriweather. It will be refreshing to see some new faces out there.

Belichick won't cut off his nose to spite his face but he knows in the long term cutting Meriweather makes his team stronger by using Meriweather as an example to others.

Meriweather may have been acquitted this summer but he was still hanging with the wrong crowd. Other players will take note and stay out of the non- football headlines.
