Not the Rourke QB we were looking for

I find it kind of insteresting that they keep claiming and going after QBs and other players at this stage, using their waiver priority. You'd think Bill would be "checked out" to an extent if he's leaving.... Like for whose benefit is he claiming guys like Rourke and Ellis for?

Belichick is going to run the the operation as business as usual until he is fired. That is what he does. He will continue to act like his job is secure until it is gone.

Several reporters have been reporting that there has been some internal conflict with Mayo over this. They say Belichick is running everything business as usual while some in the organization feel Mayo is currently preparing to become head coach after the season. The reporters say there seems to be friction between the two with Belichick coming down as hard or harder on the defense than the offense in weekly game reviews with the coaching staff. From the sound of it,if Belichick is back next year, Mayo may not be.

Good stuff: I am not against Mayo getting a HCing shot we know someone else will be shopping for the groceries which have been a Major problem for this Team. Kraft is a successful business man who will not put just anybody back there. The transition to Mayo might not be as bad as some feel he learned a lot from the Goat of HCs it wouldn't be the worse transition in the world. We can move on if it doesn't work out Mayo doesn't seem like the yess man type.

One thing I don't like about the last couple DC's in this position is the apparent attitude and ego - seems unappreciative.
Flores and now Mayo act like they are done wrong when they're not named HC after a few years at age 37.
He could be a great DC, but it's hard to know being under BB. But, a power play at this point, in season, is not a good look (if true).

But ya, Rourke should play now. Better athleticism and experience than Zappe.

Yeah, God forbid he hangs on to someone who challenges him as opposed to "Yes Bill".

I have come a long way from IBWT I think.

The other side of the coin is that the defense is pretty damned good, and we know he coaches harder when he's got something he can sink his teeth into. The offense sucks, so he leans on the defense more.

The sooner we can get beyond 2023 the happier I will be.

The IBBWT crowd think we will automatically suck minus BB yeah he bult a Great Defense and a Putrid Offense. We just have to fix the Offense IF Mayo is the guy going forward all he has to do is just Coach. Get a Real GM go in the Draft and let OCBOB get his guys on that side of the ball and go from there. We have to get really Good Talent on the Offensive side of the ball.

As a former IBWT guy, I feel this. I don't think that they are going to get worse if/when Bill leaves. I don't think the offense is nearly as bad as they are right now. Plug in a OT, true #1 WR, a third down back and of course a QB and they are back to battling for a playoff spot, assuming that the TE room stays above average and Stevenson comes back 100%. Even with Stevenson, I think he's replaceable, so I am not so worried about that. That means that everything else has to stay as good as it is on defense and no other unit goes backwards. Once they get into the tournament, as Parcells would say, anything can happen.

The kicker sucks. They either need to bring in a specialist to coach the kid or bring in someone who doesn't need a swing coach and can do it by himself.

But to your point, Mayo at the helm, BoB at OC with the changes we talked about above, with a GM who's not beholden to Bill and his refusal to value athleticism over coachability.

Here's another rabbit hole to go down: With the rule changes in the league limiting practice time, coaching and preparedness, athleticism trumps better coached teams now, at least offensively.

Couldn't agree more Preach Brother preach.

The kicker sucks.
Yep. At least he made the roster. Rohrwasser couldn't even do that. Nice drafting Bill. Lol

Unless the kicker is another Sebastian Janikowski there's no point moving up to take one.

Another tip of the cap to BB for that painful selection many here hated the pick at the time very Jordan Richards like.

A little info on the Canadian QB. He was born in Victoria BC May 24/1998 and grew up in Oakville Ontario (just outside Toronto)

Rourke made his 2022 CFL season debut as the starting quarterback for the BC Lions on June 10, 2022, where he went 26/29 for 282 yards and three passing touchdowns. He also had seven carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns leading his team to a 59-15 victory over the Edmonton Elks. On June 25, 2022, Rourke set the record for most passing yards by a Canadian quarterback in a CFL game with 436 against the Toronto Argonauts. He also set a Lions club record that night for pass completions in a single game with 39, breaking Buck Pierce's previous record of 38. On August 6, 2022, he broke his own record for passing yards by a Canadian when he threw for 477 yards against the Elks and also threw a career high five touchdown passes. In that same game, he completed 34 out of 37 pass attempts (91.9%) to record the highest pass completion rate in a single game with a minimum of 30 attempts and the third-highest completion percentage with a minimum of 20 attempts. In the following game, on August 14, 2022, Rourke again set a new mark for passing yards by a Canadian with 488 yards and tied his own Lions franchise record with 39 completions in the comeback victory over the Calgary Stampeders. Unfortunately, on August 19, 2022 Rourke left a game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders with a foot injury. A couple of days later it was determined that he suffered a Lisfranc sprain in his right foot and required surgery. At the time the Lions' organization was hopeful he would be able to return for the end of the regular season or playoffs The 2022 season was a breakout campaign for Nathan Rourke as he was named a Top Performer of the Week in the CFL five times in the Lions' first nine games of the season. He was also named a CFL Top Performers of the Month for the months of June and August. through the first half of the season Rourke was a leading candidate for the Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian awards. He was leading the league in passing attempts, completions, completion percentage, passing yards, yards per attempt, passing touchdowns, and quarterback rating. He was also second in the league with seven rushing touchdowns. Rourke returned to practice on October 11, 2022. It was announced that Rourke would return to the starting lineup for the team's final game of the regular season. He ended the season leading the league in passer efficiency, completion percentage and yards per game. His mark of 78.7% set a new CFL record for the highest completion percentage in a single season in league history. After besting the Stampeders in the first round of the playoffs Rourke and the Lions were defeated by the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Western Final. In spite of missing close to half of the regular season, he won the CFL's award for Most Outstanding Canadian.

I was part of the IBWT crowd until last year. I just wonder if he is just holding on to get the win record and will coach his way and not adapt to the changing NFL. He certainly isn't the coach he used to be. In some ways he is. In others, I think the game has passed him by.

Gostkowski worked out fine. I don't think you have to get your kickers as UDFA. The thing with them is that when you miss on them in the draft, it's glaring. You miss on an undrafted guy, just bring in 10 of them mid season and have a tryout.

I really think he's tanking on purpose at this point. He played the second half of the Steelers game uber conservatively and they almost lost, same this week vs KC. It's the only explanation I can wrap my head around. The offense is 1991 level bad, and the only way that can be in today's game is if he's trying to be this bad. Losing games by single scores, this is parting gift, a top three pick. He got ahead of Halas, got over 300, now leave the team with a new top-end, high draft pick QB and go fishing.

I hope he keeps up that conservative coaching Sunday night.

I can't see him tanking on purpose unless he is fed up and wants Kraft to fire him. Even Belichick cannot survive an 3-14 season after last year and not having a playoff win since the 2018 season. Even if Kraft doesn't want to be the guy to fire Belichick, he will have to do it if the Pats don't win another game or win only one more.

And this season is going to hurt Belichick's legacy at least a bit. I just don't believe it is in Belichick's DNA to purposely tank.

The Pats play Bryant because they have no one else available.

Would you prefer bringing in a FA with no experience in the system?
Bryant has surprisingly played well the last couple of weeks. He normally has a big gaffe at some point during the game, and these last two weeks, that hasn't happened, which is unusual. (@captain stone)

But overall, he's been the least of their problems. Although I will say we should hope Jonathan Jones didn't get hurt too badly on Sunday. His loss might push things too far in the wrong direction if he's out for any extended period.

I agree that as far as he is concerned he is here next year. I think Kraft already made his decision. It maybe he is keeping Bill and he told him so.

His press conferences are what seem weird to me. They are even worse than when we used to win. He does not come off as someone who cares at all. I know he always hated them but there is a level of carelessness I have not seen before.
