If anything this means that Maye is showing the confidence they expect and won't feel like DeVito (who knows how to be a backup) is breathing down his back

I think its a good signing.
With the Pats OL and lack of depth, the chance of Maye and Dobbs getting injured and missing games during the year is near 100%.
Devito seems like an excellent backup QB for pats when the inevitable injuries occur.

If Maye is truly a franchise QB he won't be afraid of competition ever and will go into games with the mindset that he is the best.

If you looks at Devito’s stats in games he’s played, he’s never been bad when he comes in. The Giants were clearly in a situation where he obviously was not a future option, and they had veterans in place to pair with their rookie QB. Just didn’t have the best fit.

I think he can be a solid QB2 that won’t burn the house down if Maye has to miss a couple games.
