Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

We should have gotten back at least an EDGE Player from Houston: they have like a hundred.
They have a bunch of garbage behind 2 good guys and an OLD Clowney.

Loved Reed at Penn State. Hes a backup/STer here. Maybe he can improve and replace Byard next year.

Boutte is a WR 3/4. Love him here but he is 5-10 snap a game guy ....maybe
A Guy who played more than Pop and KW is a 5-10 snap a game guy??

This is a fair response. I personally wish they would have tried to ride with Boutte and see the connection with Drake continue to grow rather than going in on Doubs.

At the same time, like you said, we paid for the two guys and Boutte won’t get his opportunities. I hope he does well in HOU. A diminished role here was waste of his time.
In my mind the major front office foul up was getting Doubs. He wasn't needed. His presence and his contract kind of forced Boutte out the door. I'd rather have Boutte. He's a money player you want to build with. Doubs hasn't shown me anything yet.

The number of fans on this sight who claim to be intelligent but then s**t all over a very good player when he's gone never ceases to amaze me. It's always the same few as well.

They ignore that Boutte had the 6th best YPC in the LEAGUE last year for players with at least 30 receptions. They're ridiculous disingenuous when they claim Boutte was the 72nd ranked receiver because they conveniently count TEs and RBs as a way to say that Boutte isn't a legit #2 who still hasn't peaked since he's only 24.

That being said, you claiming that Kyle Williams is a JAG is as stupid as their claims. The Pats don't know what they have in Williams yet. By all acounts, he's improved. It remains to be seen if that translates onto the field. The GOAL would be to have Williams be ready to take a top 3 WR spot in 2027 sine Hollins and Douglas as both UFA.
Clearly you feel that Williams has real potential. I saw a speedster who didn’t really have anything else in his bag during his rookie season. Seen it before. Good for an occasional big play. Gotta have it first down catches? Tbd.

Of course it can change. I’ll happily eat crow in a few months if he develops in a real way.

Doubs is what he is. Boutte has further room to grow. That’s the difference to me.

A 7th and a Special Teams guy. Wow. Crazy how we overvalue our players. I saw some projecting a 4th or better.

I like Boutte and hopefully he has a good career in Houston.
Thats because he is worth a 4th at least. The Pats got hosed with the trade. Texans are laughing right now. They were down, now you get to probably play them with him in the playoffs.

This was a terrible trade. This is gonna bite the Pats off in the playoffs. I hope Boutte catches 5 TDs.

You NEVER help a team in you conference, never mind a playoff team. Good job....not.
I don’t like the trade either but from this point forward I hope Boutte never produces anything, whoever we put out there is great and Jaylin whoever is an all pro.

Anyone saying Boutte is better than Doubs is ludicrous; and I love Boutte (I mean, who doesn’t?..) Doubs is a better all around receiver & better in the red zone.

You can't say that. The situations they've been in have been completely different. Look at the O-line situations between the two teams. Look at the depth of receivers. Look at the quality of Coaching.

Boutte:
3X HCs
3X OCs
3X WR Coaches.

2023 - Mac Jones throwing the ball
2024 - Brissett & Maye throwing the ball
2025 - Maye throwing the ball

Doubs:
1 HC
1 OC
1 WR Coah

2022 - Aaron Rodgers throwing Doubs the ball
2023 to 2025 - Jordan Love throwing Doubs the ball.

Not only did Doubs have a better QB situation, but also more stable coaching situation.

Not sure why people refuse to acknowledge this.

“The league” isn’t always right either. Some players are better than given credit for. Those that watched last season understood that the plays Boutte made spoke more than the raw yards and catch statistics did.

Yeah the league sees a guy with like 30-40 some catches and dismisses him outright, I’m sure.

The league may not be right, but maybe it is the Pats fans that are wrong. Boutte was very up and down last year even before his injury. He was awesome against the Raiders week one and then disappeared for a month. Most of his big games during the regular season were against bad defenses.

I like Boutte, but he is really a #3 or #4 WR on this team and wasn't going to get a lot of passes. He clearly isn't as good as Brown. I think Doubs is better. Pop is better in the slot role since that isn't a position Boutte could really play.

I thought they might be able to get more, but Boutte has been on the trade block for a while with no takers. I doubt they would just give him away to a potential playoff competitor like the Texans. The market is the market.

Personally, I think Boutte is going to have a significant decline with the change in QBs. Stroud isn't in the same universe as Maye. Stroud crumbles under pressure and his accuracy has gone from a very accurate passer his rookie year to an inconsistent one since. Boutte benefitted from Maye putting passes in perfect spots in tight windows down the field. He won't get that in Houston unless Stroud finds his rookie year magic again which I doubt.

Thats because he is worth a 4th at least. The Pats got hosed with the trade. Texans are laughing right now. They were down, now you get to probably play them with him in the playoffs.
No one would give up a fourth for KB. That’s not a commentary on Boutte but a commentary on how badly the league undervalues him.

Here is the simple fact: the league doesn’t remotely see Boutte as good as Patriots fans do. If the Patriots could have gotten more somewhere else, they would have. Reports were earlier this offseason that most teams saw Boutte as a #4 WR on a lot of teams.

I think Boutte may see a serious drop in production with CJ Stroud throwing to him.
Then since he clearly has more value here, why trade him?
