Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

don't love him going to the Texans
Stroud is not Maye, so he may not have that great of a season as if he had shut his yap and stayed in NE.

This will work out about as well as not resigning Jakobi.

I would have gotten rid of Hollins or Douglas WAY before Boutte.

First time under Vrabel/Wolf I've questioned the move completely.

Unless there's WAY more to the story that we aren't getting.
Completely agree. I like Hollins but they obviously are still trying with the Pop Douglas slot machine hopium. He was a major disappointment last season. For some reason they keep treating him as the next Edelman or something.

At any rate though Pop/Boutte play different styles so it’s not too relevant to the trade.

Horrible trade.. reed is a sixth rounder...

And 2028 7th rounder for probably borderline wr2 on most teams
Boutte should be top 60-70 wide receiver .

Really bad trade unless they are trying to do boutte a solid.
He’s a 6th rounder. But the better context to add would be how he’s looked since showing up in Houston.

Had 12 tackles against Buffalo. PFF had him graded favorably and he took 55 snaps in that game.

For a 7th rounder would have preferred the player to be an area of immediate need like depth at lb/dl but maybe they are still eyeing jones and Thompson there. I don’t mind our depth at s but We DO need a developmental safety given byard’s age.

Reed Went from 17% of defensive snaps in the regular season to 82% in the playoffs , so seems like he earned more snaps and allowed the Texans used pitre in a hybrid type role. Or maybe he replaced someone I else i can’t think of but Texans fans seem to like him and most think its a good trade for both teams. They were very deep at safety and we were very deep at wr. boutte is going to do more this year but hes a fa next year. reed has 3 years left on a rookie deal and a chance to be our future at s with woodson.

I don’t love that a S was the player it return, but some of you have serious homer glasses on. Boutte was not highly valued by ANYONE in the league. Or someone would have offered more.

He’s a JAG who had moments.

No one was game planning for Boutte, and he DIDN’T WANT TO BE HERE if not featured.

I’d have preferred a LB, DL, or edge back, but I also don't know if Woodson has an injury that could have him miss significant time.

This staff was elite last year managing what they had…I’ll give em benefit of doubt

I hear ya Toof.. let's all take a deep breath and remember he Requested a trade.. we got back a player and a pick.. Boutte went to a good team and will have a chance to flourish there. Hope he gets paid!
Charity for other teams is not a worthy motive for any team in a competitive environment. I get the part about doing Boutte a solid, but not at as heavy a price for the Pats as this asinine trade represents.

FYI Boutte last year was 72nd in total WR yards. (Tied 72nd) and 76th in YPG. the year before he was 71st in total yards and 78th in YPG. So he is a #3 WR.. and he had every chance to get a lot more. But this is the most could do getting a prominent role.

The idea he is a 2nd is just not backed up. And keep in mind the Pats had the 4th most passing yards last year and had every chance to get more yards. He didn't.
Horseshit.

We do no doubt, per human nature, overrate our guy, but the highlighted assertion above are nonsense.

I didn’t see the rush to trade him unless they never planned to engage in contract negotiations. Little mired they couldn’t get a 4th or 5th. It’s not like Houston was trading for a 3rd, 4th or 5th wr. Boutte goes there to be the #2. I get he is only on contract until end of this season and there will be a few who say the Pats got him off the books or whatever. However, we just dealt a desperate team a pretty good player, a rival. You don’t do favors like that to contenders in your own division or conference unless you are getting fair compensation. Stop with the bs that Boutte was a 6th rounder and it was equal with the safety we got. Boutte was a 6th round pick but he outplayed that comparison. Moving on but I don’t like our team being punked by Casserio. There was NFL buzz on this trade and Wolf looks like an idiot.

It's less than a 7th round pick.

Wolf got screwed by Caserio

A 7th and a pos db?

just pissing our talent away for nothing

Underwhelming return but I'm not going to pretend to be super knowledgeable about the safety they got back. Late round pick who didn't play a ton last year but maybe they like him. But if he's just a depth/STs guy that's underwhelming.

I didn't expect much for Boutte. I thought 4th/5th. The people thinking we would get a 3rd, much less that we'd turn it down if offered were insane. But unless they thought he'd be a huge locker room cancer, I'd have just kept him to have 3 good WRs. I do not believe in Hollins or Douglas as a #3 WR at all though, which I know some people here do, so I'd have prioritized keeping him over a weak (but fair_ return.

I say fair because Boutte isn't that good and he's just not very valuable on the trade market. So I get the low return. I'd have just kept him though.

He’s a JAG who had moments.
I freaking hate this ****. Kicking him on the way out. Acting like he didn’t really do anything besides a TD or two.

I’m not saying he is a #1 or anything but he worked his ass off from a long shot to Drake Maye’s binky. He made more than a few big plays for us last season.

He was the best receiver not named Diggs. And he was the best receiver on this team not named AJ Brown. Boutte is one of those late round, under appreciated guys who will grind and have a productive career. He’s not a JAG. Kyle Williams is a JAG.

No need to discredit a player just because they aren’t in a Pats uniform anymore.

Boutte was a 6th round pick.

He wasn’t a WR2 here with Drake Maye, so why would he be now with Stroud?
Because for months some people have said they would rather have Boutte over ****ing AJ Brown so when they see how much value he truly had they spiral.

Boutte is overrated by fans and he's redundant on this team.
Either him or Williams had to go, they do the same thing, Granted Boutte has shown a great knack for catching the deep balls and Williams has not been as good, but Williams has a better release and more speed and signed past this year.

Reed STARTED both playoff game last year for them.
He's been great this pre-season and written up as a surprise of camp.
Injuries are a concern but as a safety he is good against the run and is a good special teamer.
He will play more than Boutte would have assuming good health.
Not sure what people expected to get for Boutte? A 4th? 10% of those guys make it, Reed is better than a 4th.

Fifth-round rookie Kamari Ramsey deserves a shoutout for his interception on Trey Lance against the Chargers in week one of the preseason. But another safety in the room who's also performed well through two games is second-year talent Jaylen Reed, who's done nothing but produce strong numbers.

He has a combined 11 tackles with a pass defended in two games. He's one of three players with double-digit tackles through both games alongside Aiden Fisher and cornerback Stephen Hall.

Reed's chances to make the Week 1 roster were already pretty solidified entering training camp, but production like this certainly does lock that status in even further for what appears to be a deep and versatile safety room.
