Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

Combined the threads? Also unless Reed is good, we sold Boutte for nothing. I was never expecting to get a 4th... but a 7th is low.

I think we likely get just as much if not more if we let him play out his deal this year, become a free agent and get a comp pick. So to me this seems like Reed is the real value. I hope he is worth it.
FWIW Texans reporters apparently liked the guy. Looks like a good box safety which they need for run support.

For what it’s worth, Jayden Reed’s one game where he played max snaps was a Thursday night victory over Buffalo where the Texans D was the story of the game, recording eight sacks on Bills quarterback Josh Allen and forcing three turnovers.

Jaylen Reed had a team-high 12 total tackles (9 solo), 1 fumble recovery, which he returned 9 yards to the Buffalo 22-yard line, 181 defensive snaps (83% of defensive plays), Additional special teams contribution with 17 snaps.

This is as bad as the sanu trade ....

Horrible. No need to even trade boutte .
Just keep him . His own year is worth 10 times what reed or the 7th round pick will give we already have saunders balling out and you have the prized veteran free agent safety . Why a new safety. At least a linebacker might have made sense...

Really frustrated with this trade
Yeah Houston is Loaded with Edge Players which would seem more logical.

Skimpy return. I see the logic in trading him, for his sake and, to a much lesser degree, for the team's; but they should and could have waited until they got at least a reasonable return. A JAG safety (other positions are in far greater need of backup types) and a tail-end draft pick are not a reasonable return. Somebody talked themselves into this jackassery. My guess: our GM, master of the intermittent brain fart.

If AJ Brown suddenly ages out , as WR's often do, we are going to wish we still had Boutte around: not a direct replacement, but a very useful option in such a situation.

1st McConkey, now a ST and a crummy 7th rd pick that most likely not even make the team.
Fkn idiot.

This will work out about as well as not resigning Jakobi.

I would have gotten rid of Hollins or Douglas WAY before Boutte.

First time under Vrabel/Wolf I've questioned the move completely.

Unless there's WAY more to the story that we aren't getting.

I hear ya Toof.. let's all take a deep breath and remember he Requested a trade.. we got back a player and a pick.. Boutte went to a good team and will have a chance to flourish there. Hope he gets paid!

Won’t go there unless we get thin at receiver. He is a FA next year who was going to walk.

I don’t like the move. But how costly it ends up being depends on a few factors. Seems like Reed at least may have some use.

We had a much worse receiving room when we let Jakobi walk.

Decent 2024 for Penn State
  • 2024: Second-team All-Big Ten. Led team with 98 tackles (6.5 TFLs with 2.5 sacks, 3 INTs with 1 returned for TD, 3 PBUs, FF). Started all 16 games.
  • Per NFL.com
Basically played one game last year vs Buff and had 12 tackles, 9 solo. So they either picked on him or he had the game of hi slife.

If we'd gotten a decent IOL I'd be happy. Know I'm, meh.

FYI Boutte last year was 72nd in total WR yards. (Tied 72nd) and 76th in YPG. the year before he was 71st in total yards and 78th in YPG. So he is a #3 WR.. and he had every chance to get a lot more. But this is the most could do getting a prominent role.

The idea he is a 2nd is just not backed up. And keep in mind the Pats had the 4th most passing yards last year and he* had every chance to get more yards. He didn't.

I'm not mad that we eventually would trade Boutte - I'm once again pissed that we make the worst value trades ever when we hold the leverage!!! We're looking good at Safety with Byard, Woodson, Pettus, Saunders (and Schooler).

Why couldn't you get a decent EDGE or ILB. Not to mention, God forbid we lose 1 or 2 WR's and then we're completely screwed. It was too soon. There was no reason to do this right now!

*Edit - but I'm on to the next UDFA hero... DeGennaro baby!

I was already expecting him to be traded. And was expecting a 5th back, people here do tend to overvalue the players we get

But i do not understand the safety return. LB would be ideal, Houston has so many DEs...

Maybe Schooler is not close to return, but still, this is a head scratcher
