Patriots Player Departure Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick

I freaking hate this ****. Kicking him on the way out. Acting like he didn’t really do anything besides a TD or two.

I’m not saying he is a #1 or anything but he worked his ass off from a long shot to Drake Maye’s binky. He made more than a few big plays for us last season.

He was the best receiver not named Diggs. And he was the best receiver on this team not named AJ Brown. Boutte is one of those late round, under appreciated guys who will grind and have a productive career. He’s not a JAG. Kyle Williams is a JAG.
Boutte is not better than Doubs and I hated the Doubs signing.

Clearly there is information we don't have access that triggered this trade

- The staff is sold on Chism
- Boutte is unhappy maybe becoming a bit of a problem
- Even staying Boutte wouldn't have the same role as last year
- Boutte want's to go to Houston and the team decided to do him a solid

Some of these might be true if not all itens

I didn’t see the rush to trade him unless they never planned to engage in contract negotiations. Little mired they couldn’t get a 4th or 5th. It’s not like Houston was trading for a 3rd, 4th or 5th wr. Boutte goes there to be the #2. I get he is only on contract until end of this season and there will be a few who say the Pats got him off the books or whatever. However, we just dealt a desperate team a pretty good player, a rival. You don’t do favors like that to contenders in your own division or conference unless you are getting fair compensation. Stop with the bs that Boutte was a 6th rounder and it was equal with the safety we got. Boutte was a 6th round pick but he outplayed that comparison. Moving on but I don’t like our team being punked by Casserio. There was NFL buzz on this trade and Wolf looks like an idiot.
You answered your own question. They never considered paying him. Probably concerns about big money bringing out character issues.

Or, just, didn’t think he was worth serious $.

This is as bad as the sanu trade ....

Horrible. No need to even trade boutte .
Just keep him . His own year is worth 10 times what reed or the 7th round pick will give we already have saunders balling out and you have the prized veteran free agent safety . Why a new safety. At least a linebacker might have made sense...

Really frustrated with this trade

Exactly this.

If the trade was for a depth piece at positions like ILB, OL or DL it makes sense.

We're basically giving away a player.

Usual pats fans suspects.... management can do no wrong...
Not me. This is tge 1st move Vrabel has made that I dont like.
We needed the depth if either Brown or Doubs goes down.
And I dont wanna hear about " well its better than if he walks after the season and we get nothing". Wtf? We GOT nothing. Zip. Nada.
And now the depth takes a hit for a team that has SB aspirations but needs every starter on bithvsides of the ball to win it.

Well at least that distraction is over

Boutte is overrated by fans and he's redundant on this team.
Either him or Williams had to go, they do the same thing, Granted Boutte has shown a great knack for catching the deep balls and Williams has not been as good, but Williams has a better release and more speed and signed past this year.

Reed STARTED both playoff game last year for them.
He's been great this pre-season and written up as a surprise of camp.
Injuries are a concern but as a safety he is good against the run and is a good special teamer.
He will play more than Boutte would have assuming good health.
Not sure what people expected to get for Boutte? A 4th? 10% of those guys make it, Reed is better than a 4th.

Fifth-round rookie Kamari Ramsey deserves a shoutout for his interception on Trey Lance against the Chargers in week one of the preseason. But another safety in the room who's also performed well through two games is second-year talent Jaylen Reed, who's done nothing but produce strong numbers.

He has a combined 11 tackles with a pass defended in two games. He's one of three players with double-digit tackles through both games alongside Aiden Fisher and cornerback Stephen Hall.

Reed's chances to make the Week 1 roster were already pretty solidified entering training camp, but production like this certainly does lock that status in even further for what appears to be a deep and versatile safety room.

Kyle Williams sucks and can’t do anything besides an occasional deep ball. Did I miss something other than his 5 or 6 catches last season? Lol

True, maybe Houston has the problem of a crowded safety room relevant to our congested wr room?

The Pats would not have acquired Doubs and paid him if they intended to pay Boutte.

Its a shame, because Boutte really put in the work and changed opinions about him being a bust. Something must have happened behind the scenes that soured the relationship for good.

No need to discredit a player just because they aren’t in a Pats uniform anymore.
I should clarify my definition of JAG as it may not be everyone’s.

To me, Jag does not mean bad player. Just…normal nfl guy who could be replaced.

I don’t think Boutte was bad.

I think we saw the best of what he will ever be.

Low ceiling.

Williams isn’t yet even a Jag in my view. Hasn’t done enough.

BUT…his ceiling is higher IF he can get unlocked. Gotta throw him the ball.

Hell, I’m not sure Chism isn’t a more useful long term piece than Boutte.

Boutte to me was a walmart AJ.

Very similar skillsets.

AJ is just better at everything Boutte does .

Always enjoyed those one handed catches.

Happy for Boutte that he will get more balls his way and possibly the contract NE was never going to give him

We should have gotten back at least an EDGE Player from Houston: they have like a hundred.

That’s fair. JAG to me is literally Kyle Williams. I still believe Boutte contributed much more than you give him credit for last season. Drake went to him in several important, gotta have it spots.

He was never going to be on the week 1 roster or given an extension. Expected better comp but I imagine that’s the best they could’ve got.

Huh?

His biggest play last year was a 13 yard out that he took to the house. Few players would have housed that.

Don’t think he’s “just a deep threat”.

Def needs to toughen up and run better routes, but the kid has something you can’t teach…absurd speed.

He may flame out, but you gotta know for sure

That’s my only worry here. That they may be right on Boutte overall but wrong in how important Drake’s trust was

He’s the Wal-Mart version of Bethel Johnson.
