You think some team is going to offer a 3rd rounder for CB Jones? I think it’s more likely somewhere around a 5th. Either way, I wouldn’t want Belichick to do it.

Since the last couple of projections have been WWBDo versions, here's my latest WWIDo post-minicamp version:

    QB (3) T.Brady, J.Stidham, B.Hoyer
    - If some of the injured/suspended players return, and If Stidham is a quick study, then perhaps Hoyer can "retire" and become QBs Coach.

    RB (5) J.Develin, J.White, R.Burkhead, D.Harris, B.Bolden
    - until I see him on the field, Michel is now PUP.

    WR (4) J.Edelman, P.Dorsett, N.Harry, D.Inman
    - Not a fan of any of the rest; Donkey Thomas to PUP, Flash suspended.

    TE (3) M.LaCosse, R.Izzo, S.Anderson
    - Watson suspended.

    C (2) D.Andrews, B.Schwenke
    G (3) S.Mason, H.Froholdt, T.Karras
    T (4) M.Cannon, J.Thuney, I.Wynn, C.Croston
    - Until I see him on the field, Cajuste is PUP.

    DE (5) M.Bennett, D.Wise, C.Winovich, J.Simon, D.Rivers
    DT (4) L.Guy, M.Pennel, A.Butler, D.Shelton
    - Cowart to PS.

    ILB (2) D.Hightower, J.Bentley
    OLB (3) K.VanNoy, J.Collins, C.Sam
    - No room at my inn for either King (despite his extension) or Roberts.

    CB (6) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J.Jones, J.Jackson, J.Williams, D.Dawson

    SS (2) P.Chung, O.Melifonwu
    FS (3) D.McCourty, D.Harmon, T.Brooks
    - Ebner "retires" to become assistant STs Coach.

    ST (4) S.Gostkowski, J.Bailey, J.Cardona, M.Slater

This is always a fun exercise in the doldrums after OTAs.

There are so many spots already settled, easily 40. I'm in the camp of BB keeping most ST only players so that subtracts more open slots. Injuries and suspensions help with the congestion as Beck gets a shot while Watson is suspended, and they similarly have job opportunities at WR as well. I don't think Thomas plays much this year and I'm not sure they'll even PUP him, and Gordon seems gone for good right now so he can't be counted on. You can see battles at SS, TE, WR, maybe OT and DT. I had trouble with the congested CB position so I just kept most of them, also maybe have one too many DT or RB. Had Beck as this year's UDFA. Had Obi over Gant, Stidham over Etling, Allen over Bailey, Schwenke and Ferentz out, had Burkhead over another WR choice, all of which are debatable.

Way too early but what the hell.

    QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham
    RB (6) S.Michel, J.Develin, R.Burkhead, J.White, B.Bolden, D.Harris
    WR (6) J.Edelman, P.Dorsett, M.Harris, B.Berrios, M.Slater, N.Harry

    SS (3) P.Chung, O.Melifonwu, N.Ebner
    FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
    ST (3) S.Gostkowski, J.Cardona, J.Bailey

    PUP: Thomas
    Reserve/Suspended: Gordon, Watson

    Total players: 53

Watson will be on the suspended list for 4 games. I'm betting they keep Beck.
As usual there will be players from other teams who are added after the 4th preseason game.
If Gordon is reinstated before Week 1, I expect Dorsett, Berrios or Harris or to be released (in that order)

As far as the roster goes:

I think Burkhead is the odd man out at RB

I really want to see Cowhart make the 53 man roster. Does he have to beat out Butler? Is Shelton's role to back up Pennel? How often would they be on the field together?

I think Ebner is expendable. Time for an infusion of youth into the ST squad.

I'm not exactly sure how the DL will be constructed. Last year they kept an awful lot of DTs with several of them being pass rush DTs. If Cowart shows up I wouldn't necessarily rule out Pennel, Guy, Cowart, Butler and Shelton.

If/when he is reported on the field, then I'll remove him from PUP. Simple. Nothing lol about it.

    Thanks for the revealing insight.

I like....but I don't see Dorsett, Berrios or Harris getting cut if Gordon is reinstated. Gordon could f'up again and then we would be out 2 receivers...but if it had to be one....probably Berrios. If I had to pick from your 53 other then WR...it would probably be Ebner or Hoyer...Hoyer only if Stidham seems to have picked up the playbook more during the season while Gordon is suspended.

This list is odd; the numbers in parentheses add to 55, yet you have 53 players because at CB and TE the numbers actually do lie.

Hell the most reasonable take -- yet still pretty hot take -- is Bailey over Ryan Allen. You are doing this just based on his leg and kicking ability when even Edelman pointed out that he has to work on his consistency.

Consistency has and will win over most other attributes every year. This is also why Ebner, Roberts and Hoyer will most likely be on the 53. By now you should know how the cookie crumbles.

Ultimately your projection has many things you exactly know won't happen but you put them there just so you can once again complain about BB later on.

Interesting how Inman went from a “ lock” to cut on so many projections. A week ago people were insisting he couldn’t be replaced.

I'm doing this based on Bill trading Up in the 5TH round to draft him. Many projections other than mine - both on the board and in the press - also show Bailey over Allen.

Thus the reason I have both a WWBDo version and a WWIDo version.
