My only major beef is keeping Crossen ahead of the little Duke (but Not of Dorchester) Dawson.
I'm obviously no fan - at all - of Dawson, but throwing away yet another 2nd-round DB just to keep yet another ST "ace"(snicker) is simply Horrible asset management.

and taking on a 1.8 million dollar dead cap hit. It would be an inexcusable move.

Duke Dawson isn't getting cut. Crossen's a strict special teams guy thus far; he's in competition with the likes of Bolden, Brooks, and Webster for spots.

Crossen played quite a bit of D in the AFCCG when our secondary was in good health, so I don't think the claim that he's ST only is very accurate. I actually do see him and Dawson filling the same defensive role (slot), a competition which Crossen is currently winning.

Right now I don't see room for either of them. Of course all sorts of things can happen between now and September to open spots up, but I really don't see why people insist that having been drafted in the 2nd round over a year ago guarantees anyone a spot on any NFL team, let alone the Belichick-run Patriots. He's shown zero and needs to earn his spot by changing that; I'm sure he'll be given opportunities to do so.

Belichick has proven that higher round picks have a longer leash. We can only go by tendencies and calculate the probability of each player to make the team. There is no rule, no guarantee for anybody but the precedent has been set so far for 19 years. Might be different in the 20th year but I wouldn't place a bet on it.

Hey now, that's Danny "Special Teams God" Etling you're talking about. Right now he's making Slater and Ebner very nervous because he's gunning for their roster spots. :D

They obviously saw something special in Dawson at FL and will give him every opportunity to make the 53. I’m not giving up on him being a contributor for the next several years. Having said that, if Crossen consistently outplays him in practice and preseason games, I believe that BB will be willing to cut Dawson. If Crossen gets cut, they aren’t getting him onto their PS. If fact he probably would be facing them this year, with the Jets almost reflexively snapping up our sloppy seconds and the Bills being the only other team who hosted him pre-draft.

I disagree that Crossen is a strict special teams guy going forward. It’s possible that’s how he sticks in the league but I personally thought that he showed flashes of real potential at CB year, interspersed between broken coverages and poor technique leading to DPIs. Funny thing is when you watch them on the field doesn’t strike you as being under 5’10” for some reason. He is also on another level athletically...4.33-second 40, 6.73-second three-cone (he stated 6.67 pre-draft), 39.5-inch vertical VS. 4.46 and 7.01 for Dawson (Crossen also had a superior vert but I couldn’t find Dawson’s number when I quickly searched. Those are JJ like numbers so maybe Crossen will be the future at slot if JJ, as expected, signs elsewhere next off-season.

Then again perhaps they both make it....there could be an unexpected injury (please no) or maybe they both surprisingly outplay McCourty by a significant margin. It’s a great problem to have at that position in 2019. Late July can’t get here soon enough.

I gotta think some kinda trade will happen....maybe Jones or Crossen. Jordan Richards had 3 years to try to prove himself. Duke will get at least one year to show what he can do...to early to cut him.

IMO Crossen is a very good special teamer....maybe a high level gunner some day (I think he is a little out of control on defense). Duke hasn't played a down yet...but he projects to be more then just ST...specifically covering the slot...where Jones takes most of his snaps.

I Dont agree with it but if you look at how BB manages his roster he is the most likely player to be traded.
Id say a team calls up offering a third.

    Post-ASJ release, WWBD version:

    QB (3) T.Brady, B.Hoyer, J.Stidham

    ILB (2) J.Bentley, E.Roberts
    OLB (4) D.Hightower, K.VanNoy, J.Collins, B.King

    CB (6) S.Gilmore, J.McCourty, J.Jones, J.Jackson, J.Williams, D.Dawson

    SS (2) P.Chung, N.Ebner

    ST (4) S.Gostkowski, J.Bailey, J.Cardona, M.Slater

Created with Pats Picker: Pats Picker 2018

Basically swapping out ASJ and adding Derek Rivers. That leaves the offense light on depth (except at probably RB & QB) to begin the season, but if all goes well we might be able to add Watson, Donkey Thomas, Flash Gordon & Yawndy Cachoo later.

I still wouldn't rule out Cajuste being ready for training camp.

If All of White, Michel & Harris are good to go for Opening Day, then I can see Burkhead possibly being traded for a pick or help at another position.

I'd Much rather have Dontrelle Inman ahead of Mo Harris, especially early in the season when we will be lacking in experience at WR & TE.

Thuney at LT and Wynn at LG is a mighty bold prediction. I'll be somewhat disappointed if that's how it has to happen.

If Christian Sam plays well during TC & pre-season, I would love to find a way to keep him; but what if Derek Rivers plays well too? Most other things being equal, I would keep the one with the better pass-rushing potential.

Johnathan Jones: same as Burkhead, but only if the other 5 CBs are healthy.

Both ObiWan & Gant instead of Ebner? Fine by me, though again I would keep Rivers instead of Gant, who athletically is inferior to Rivers, Sam & Obi.

Harris is having a very good minicamp so far. Tom seems to to be throwing to him a lot already. He is also 3-4 years younger then Inman i think.

Yeah i decide to remove Gant and add Ebner back at SS

Yep...moving Thuney to LT is bold....but i like his size better there.. He also played there exclusively during his senior year at college and never gave up a sack that year. I also feel like Wynn is a better fit at LG size-wise. I would trust Thuney at LT more then Wynn i guess.

Rivers is a tough trade / cut. That's a stretch on my part for sure....but he has been a slight disappointment so far. Sam hasn't had a chance to show what he can do yet.

As you have indicated, you presume that several players are on one of the lists
    Cajuste
    Thomas
    Gordon
    Watson

I suspect that Croston is simply a placeholder for the TBD swing OT, as well as Rivers being the placeholder for the TBD DL.

Okay, you're scaring me - we have the same roster with only one exception: Christian Sam over Rivers to play ST.

I also had that problem with cap's picks. He then pointed out that there are guesses about what Bill will do, rather than cap's choices.

Correct. Until I learn otherwise, Cajuste & Thomas = PUP; and Watson & Gordon = Susp.

I hope so; but until another OT arrives, Croston is Next Man Up.

Don't know about that one...I'm kinda ok with what we have at DL (ass-uming you mean both DE & DT) right now.
