OT: What's wrong with this world? Ravens fan clings to life after fight with Raiders fan

New Orleans was fantastic. Went to the 09 Pats-Saints game there with my parents, who grew up in Louisiana and were Saints fans. My dad's co-workers were telling him I shouldn't wear Pats gear because the fans were relentless on opposing fans. Bull crap. Between inside the Superdome and walking back to the hotel, I shook no less than 200 hands, and almost all of them were very complimentary of the Pats success.

Louisianans are some of the nicest people and devout football fans.

Plus, they hate Goodell as much as we do.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. If everyone could act like an adult, then drinking before and during games would not be a problem. But too many people can't handle it. It's more the pregame blotto in the parking lot, now that I think about it. I attend a lot of Bruins games too, and while there are occasional drunks, there are nowhere near the amount of blitzed citizens that I see at Pats games.

Anymore, NFL games are a reason to get blitzed.

Bills games are real bad from what I have seen on youtube.

Your post changes literally nothing about what I posted, Deb. There are many things that are banned in many places, and the banning is almost always a bad thing.

Let the NFL ban tailgating and see how fast people stop going to the games.

From PFT:

Ravens fan in critical condition after fight with Raiders fans at Sunday’s game

Bauer’s sister told the paper that her brother has been given a 30 percent chance of survival.

The guy was at the game with his wife and another couple, not exactly the group that you would think would end up in a death match with a group of Raider fans. Seriously, its only a game! Not living in NE, I've been to many Pats game in Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Jacksonville, and New Orleans and have participated in the hilarious friendly banter, but in every city, we had fun *especially NO. I feel sorry for this guy, he goes to a game with his wife and ends up fighting for his life? This is something the NFL should be looking into This is ridiculous!

Yea the more and more that these videos are released, so many questions go through my mind..

1. Where the **** is the security?
2. Why the **** do people just stand around and allow this to happen? Every single video that you watch, bystandards are just observing and recording with their phones

Bystander effect. If one person stepped in to help, more people would as well.

Raiders fans are very very rough..you think Philly is bad? Raiders are...yeah.

I went to Oakland for the Raiders-Titans preseason game this year as i was in the area...and man their fans are...yeah

Not sure where this happened..but if this happened in the parking lot...you won't be finding security

Had a Raider sit behind us at the game in Foxboro yesterday. He made sure he told everyone in the section he was a Raider fan and proceeded to loudly insult the Patriots on every play. He finally got so drunk he had to leave in the 2nd half. About as stupid a ba$tard as I've seen at a public sporting event in a number of years.

They're not the brightest fans thats for certain. He probably bought his ticket online and thought he was in Baltimore. Did he have his Darth Vader mask on?

Reminds me of this > Hillsborough disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"It can't happen here" - Yes it did.

When Hillsborough happened, US reporters attempted to spin American sports fans have so many choices to pull for while their British counterparts have just one soccer team and are more prone to going off the deep end. I think this proves on this side of the pond we have plenty of fans that are unbalanced.

A surprisingly large percentage of the human population are afflicted with several mental illnesses.

Add in things like Personality Disorders and the number easily surpasses 10%.

Just something I try to keep in mind dealing with people, especially the internet.

I haven't been to a Raiders game. But Baltimore fans are by far the worst fans I have ever been around. I will never go back to that stadium.

None of us are as stupid as all of us. Combine a beer, stupid people, and the general weird/tribal atmosphere of a football game, and sometimes incredibly senseless things happen.
"A person is smart; people are dumb."

They ARE bad...

Adults, freedoms, responsibilities and all that. When you find yourself accepting limitations on adult freedoms, you should generally assume that you're wrong to do so.
I accept limitations on smoking in public areas as a godsend and excess alcohol consumption at football games is 10 times worse. When "adults" aren't responsible with their freedoms, they should be limited.

(Yells, curses, smashes laptop after reading your post)

(incoherent babbling, urinates in the corner of the room)

(resumes boiling shoe on the stove top while jamming out to Lou Reed's "Street Hassle")

That's just stupid.

They're very mouthy from what I've seen. Not that this guy was or deserved what he got, but just a general take on their fans as a whole.

I don't get it - it costs $200-400/ticket to get into an NFL game. I guess my mind pInts with a broad brush when I think the kind of people who could afford that would not do these kinds of things.

More like $75-$150 on average throughout the league. Upper-deck tix in Buffalo, for example, are relatively inexpensive.

So sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with this person and his family.

I'm glad that people are shocked and outraged.

When I was a teenager, I used to go to English soccer games a lot. I'd even travel by bus to away games on my own. I was once in a stadium where the stand burned down, but, fortunately, I was safe and got home before my parents had even heard about it.

There were always some people out for trouble, but, if you knew what you were doing, you could keep away from it. But, as the years went on it got worse and worse till I finally said "the hell with it". I'm glad I did because things got even worse. Though it's better policed and controlled than it was in the 80s so you're less likely to get stomped or knifed, the atmosphere is still full of hate and anger. Who needs it?

By contrast, it's so great to go to NFL games. In my much more limited experience almost everyone who is there knows how to be loud and partisan while having fun with it. You Americans should be very proud of that and do whatever you can to hang on to it. Once it's gone it's gone.
