Ravens fan in critical condition after fight with Raiders fans at Sunday’s game

Bauer’s sister told the paper that her brother has been given a 30 percent chance of survival.

The guy was at the game with his wife and another couple, not exactly the group that you would think would end up in a death match with a group of Raider fans. Seriously, its only a game! Not living in NE, I've been to many Pats game in Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Jacksonville, and New Orleans and have participated in the hilarious friendly banter, but in every city, we had fun *especially NO. I feel sorry for this guy, he goes to a game with his wife and ends up fighting for his life? This is something the NFL should be looking into This is ridiculous!

Football is serious business!

Had a Raider sit behind us at the game in Foxboro yesterday. He made sure he told everyone in the section he was a Raider fan and proceeded to loudly insult the Patriots on every play. He finally got so drunk he had to leave in the 2nd half. About as stupid a ba$tard as I've seen at a public sporting event in a number of years.

New Orleans was fantastic. Went to the 09 Pats-Saints game there with my parents, who grew up in Louisiana and were Saints fans. My dad's co-workers were telling him I shouldn't wear Pats gear because the fans were relentless on opposing fans. Bull crap. Between inside the Superdome and walking back to the hotel, I shook no less than 200 hands, and almost all of them were very complimentary of the Pats success.

Sports is an escape, but a few take it to a total escape from reality like in this instance. Make an example of the Raiders fan. Thoughts and prayers with the Ravens victim.

None of us are as stupid as all of us. Combine a beer, stupid people, and the general weird/tribal atmosphere of a football game, and sometimes incredibly senseless things happen.

Oh, I did...he stepped on his **** more than once and I let him know face to face that he was a complete moron. Can't really insult a drunk though, as they are in the process of insulting their brain anyway

It's not a beer, but many beers. Too many people use football games to drink themselves into deep stupidity and hubris. Yesterday there were a couple of completely drunk A-hole Pats fans taunting and threatening some older Bills fans that had done nothing wrong. The security guard keeping an eye on them was a 25ish year old woman that probably came up to the Pats' fans' waists. She told me "it's the one in the red shirt's 22nd birthday and they've been having a good time," after I told her it was the Pats fans causing trouble, not the Bills fans (while trying not to let the Pats fans see I was ratting them out, as I didn't want to be next on the threats parade). Luckily they left before anything bad happened, but this happens all too often. The parking lots are worse. Even the cops can't protect themselves all the time (see stories about MA state trooper run over by motorcylist fleeing other cops). I wish people would have a drink or two, watch the game and remember we're all fans just cheering on our teams.

Even though I enjoy a ****tail before a game, I wouldn't be adverse to banning all alcohol at the games and in the parking lots. It'll never happen though.

This is exactly why I don't want to spend money on games....The teams charge $200 + for tickets and can't even protect their patrons.

Reminds me of this > Hillsborough disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"It can't happen here" - Yes it did.

When Hillsborough happened, US reporters attempted to spin American sports fans have so many choices to pull for while their British counterparts have just one soccer team and are more prone to going off the deep end. I think this proves on this side of the pond we have plenty of fans that are unbalanced.

more details in the baltimore sun article linked in PFT. two 30-year olds beating up a 55-year-old former marine:

Man in critical condition after altercation with Raiders fans at Ravens game

On Monday police identified the men charged as Scott Smith, 30, of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Andrew Nappi, 31, of Eastchester, N.Y. Both were charged with first- and second-degree assault, court records show. Nappi was released on $25,000 bail, while Smith's status was unclear from court records.
Susan Bauer identified the injured man as her brother, Joseph Bauer, 55. She said he was attending the game with his wife and another couple when he got into a verbal argument with a group of Raiders fans near a concession stand toward the end of the game.

Susan Bauer said her brother's head hit the concrete after he was struck, knocking him unconscious and causing a serious head injury. She said he was in critical condition with a subdural hematoma, which causes blood to pool on the brain. Bauer said doctors had told the family he had a 30 percent chance of survival.

"My brother is in critical condition on life support over a football game," said Susan Bauer, who also lives in Jessup. "We're in shock over this."

Bauer said her brother is a former Marine who works for Schuster Concrete. She said the family was told two suspects were being detained, but police didn't identify them. Bauer criticized police for not sharing more information about the case, and also was upset no one from the Ravens organization had reached out to the family.

If you look up the phrase "subhuman degenerate" in the dictionary, you'll find a Chokeland Faders fan pic.

I would absolutely be averse to it, FWIW. Getting loaded in the parking lot is part of the gameday experience, in my book, and for the 99% of people who aren't complete degenerate pieces of ****, they won't become violent no matter how drunk they are. What I wouldn't be averse to is the owners reaching into their wallets for a change and properly staffing security at the games. For what fans pay to attend an NFL game, failing to staff the premises with enough security to protect paying fans is absolutely ludicrous, and the blame should go to the top. If they're unwilling to budget for that, then they don't care about your safety, plain and simple.

At the same time, I'm also a fan of the trend toward dramatically increasing the penalties for getting into fights, so no matter how dumb and drunk of a meathead they may be, could ever get away with pulling that crap twice. I'm find with lifetime bans being the result of fighting at games.

The most hilarious thing about Raider fans is the ridiculous costumes they were. They think they look scary, but, in reality, they look silly.
