OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

To trade for Shaq Mason, a proven guard ranked pretty high in the league, is a good get for the Bucs. Gives them a better option than being forced to reach for a guard in the draft. Likely cost them Jordan Whitehead, but they have two safeties who can play.

So Marpet's retirement might have indirectly cost the Bucs Whitehead. Interesting...

No one here are Bucs fans. It's safe to say that many in this forum are just big Tom Brady fans.

For myself, I barely paid attention to football once Brady retired. I didn't even watch the SB.

I have a feeling Gronk isn't coming back. He will have options and maybe his mom being in Florida can be the tiebreaker but I consider Buffalo the SB favorite and they may want him. Cinci isn't going back anywhere for the next decade so I don't know if he'd go there.

If Brady is playing i don't see him going anywhere

It is true that they have 2 other average to above average safeties but he was their best imo. They desperately need a CB. I would add as many void years to Brady's deal as possible to get Gilmore or chandler jones. I prefer a CB, but at least Bowles knows how to use pass rushers.

You'd think so but playing in Buffalo would be a great choice for him. They are absolutely the favorite with the little moves they have made and with their best CB coming back.

I don't know what Bill is doing but there must be a plan in place. You have to expect that they will add a receiver and fortify the Oline for Mac.
I think at this point BB is just trying to field a competitive team in the 7-10 to 10-7 range.

I'm in the minority but I thought the Pats should have rebuilt over 2 or 3 years(tank) instead of reload. Pats needed and still need a solid foundation of high draft picks on rookie contracts to become stars of the future.

Pats won a last gasp 2018 SB with aging talent. We saw the lack of talent come true in 2019 even with the Goat. And ever since, I don't believe it has gotten any better other than finding the QB of the future.

That's possible. I have no idea what NE is doing and if they had Brady at QB this would all be status quo. They don't even have McDaniels now which imo is a huge problem. NE always has coaches move up from within but who will call and design game plans for the offense? This will be an interesting season and I know lots of us would of welcomed a philosophy change on Offense and let BB run the D but it looks like that will never happen.

Gronk had plans to move on to other teams. A pure guess by me, but I can see half a dozen teams wanting Gronk. With that many teams, there'll be a bidding war. He probably will command 12 mil plus. Bucs probably didn't want to pay more than 10 mil.

He will go to the Bucs cause they are going all in and can afford Gronk and others by restructuring contracts.

The Buc fans on here must be estatic about this trade, frankly from a Patriot fan, not sure about this one.
No offense and with all due respect, sincerely, but I'm pretty sure no one here ever cared about the Bucs in any way shape or form before Brady signed with them. There's one troll that probably posts here more than in the main forum with the obvious goal of knocking Brady first and foremost and then Brady fans. Brady fans are dismissed as Bucs fans I guess because it's easier to get everyone to dislike them with that narrative. As far as the Mason trade it might be good for Brady and with the cap space it will give the Pats the opportunity to fill needs they deem more important. I expect that the whole idea behind the move. I trust BB. Win, win

Not only am I not a Bucs fan I hope they fall apart the moment Brady leaves for good because it’ll make his accomplishments dragging that sorry ass franchise to success look even more impressive.

He is not going to go live in freaking Buffalo that freaking hell hole lmao. He’ll be back for Brady.

He's from there and he lived in NE for years...

With the amount of cap being pushed to the future and the amount of aging stars they have, their time is now and maybe next year. After that, they should blow it all up, tank, and rebuild.

So you haven’t heard../ Tampa was a super team before Brady got there

I don’t know if he’s better than Winfield but ya getting mason and losing whitehead is what they had to so

There's supposed to be a big salary cap bump coming. I forget whether that's supposed to be in 2023 or 2024, but teams just need to kick the can until then, and then they can clear a lot of the books.

I also haven't heard anything about Leftwich since the season ended. Reports are Brady was in meetings for days before he came back which suggests that some reports may of been true: he didn't just retire because of family, he did so because of concerns with the Bucs. Could the problem for him be Leftwich and not Arians? I would think the whole AB thing really didn't sit well with Tom but there were whispers of issues with the running game between OC and TB12.

I got some bad information on Rob Gronkowski’s 2021 contract — the four voidable years have already voided against this year’s cap, so Bucs have $5 million in dead money. Doesn’t change whether they re-sign him Wednesday or later. So no urgency to sign him before new year.

Same is true for Ndamukong Suh’s 2021 contract — voidable years voided so there is $6.8 million in dead money there. Bucs can still re-sign him but it won’t push that dead money into future seasons. Sorry for any confusion.

On the one hand, I should apologize for not having done my own cap work and just passing this stuff on, so that now I have to pass on the correction.

On the other hand, as many of you probably know, while I used t take deep dives into this sort of thing, I stopped worrying about the machinations of the salary cap several years ago. And I'm not going to start again now.

So....

I'll just say "here's an update/correction" (which I'm also not going to check) , and leave it at that.
