OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

May well be true but considering it came from agenda obsessed Ted Johnson, I'm skeptical.
Plus I don't care a whit about Kraft's reaction.
Me, I'm sad Tom didn't play one more year and I deeply miss watching The GOAT play wherever.
There are several things that is sad for me,.. not getting more records with Gronk, not going for another SB, not seeing how good the roster could be when healthy, not seeing him play more with Evans when they finally had chemistry.
Lastly, not adding to his regular season records such that most would stand for a very long time. As it is, some of the major ones will probably start falling in about 15 years to a QB currently playing. Most likely Herbert or Burrows.

Yeah to me the whole “what more does he have to prove” line rings so hollow. He can win more games, throw more touchdowns, have a couple more 4th quarter comebacks. Just pad that resume to keep those numbers out of reach for as long as possible. But it’s clear now at his age and knowing what he needs to sacrifice to play I think that Brady only values winning a super bowl and nothing else. Anything else is a waste of his time compared to being around his family. And most importantly he knows that even if you go into the year with the most stacked team in the league, and you start the season 12-1, it just takes a couple games at the end of the season severely injuring a couple vital players for it to ALL to go up in smoke and you lose in the divisional round. Forget AB, if Godwin and Wirfs are both healthy the Bucs are in the Super Bowl. Almost zero doubt about it. But they weren’t because of just freak bad luck. I think THAT is the main reason why Brady doesn’t want to go through the grind again. He’s seen multiple seasons go up in smoke because of a couple bad hits and it’s just not worth it at 45. If a magic genie came to him and said “if you come back for one more year you WILL win another super bowl” I guarantee you that he’d be back. But that’s clearly impossible. If he comes back to a reloaded Bucs team that goes 14-3 in the regular season but loses in the Conference Championship he’ll consider that a waste of his time because he missed out on the time with his kids. And from this perspective I can understand why he’s walking away.

Brady nominated for Laureus Sportsman of the Year, the first NFL player to ever be nominated.

Are you really surprised, though?
I am a bit. I was confused with the Brady backlash but part of me was like "okay fine he's the "enemy". " But now that he's retired I expected a better response from people

I was surprised when it first happened nearly two years ago but now? Lol no.
It actually started in 2019 when it looked like it would be Brady's last season as a Pat. I was lurking many years but was finally motivated to sign up here after reading all the smack being made about him.

What does surprise me is the contrast with the Bucs sites. The appreciation of Brady is pretty much universal. Although, they're now taking it out on the coaches.

I hadn’t registered an account here yet but I saw the “should we keep Cassel and trade Brady” threads after 2008. I won’t ever forget that.

There were a lot of people who were adamant the Pats don't trade Jimmy G because Brady will retire in a couple of years, and then the Pats dynasty will go on for 15 more years with Jimmy. That was right after the Falcons SB. People were fully convinced that inserting Jimmy instead of Tom will get you the same results, more or less. People actually watched SB 51 and thought, yeah, the QB is replaceable.

The counter-argument was, Brady is once in a lifetime player, you trade Jimmy for a high pick/s, kick the tires on Brady by giving him the best possible weapons and content for the SB every year until he retires, once he does you draft a QB and become a regular team like everyone else.

Well, time has answered very well who was replaceable and who wasn't.

This site has change a great deal in the years since I joined in 2006. From top to bottom, bottom to top, it's almost a completely different place in terms of posters, content, attitude, etc...

He's so grateful that he was happy to have torpedoed their playoff chances.

I don’t think it would have mattered unless Wirfs was fine. Yes I understand he opens up the quick passing game but that entire oline, not just the backup right tackle, seemed to absolutely melt away without Wirfs as the anchor. It was far worse than a sub par backup getting beat.

A combo of Wirfs plus either Brown or Godwin being healthy would have made them Super Bowl favorites. All 3 being healthy? They’d be planning the parade already, absolutely no one could stop that offense.

Yeah, the loss of Wirfs really hurt. He is really, really good. Tampa’s O Line was good, but not as great as their stats in terms of giving up sacks goes. Brady genuinely made every OLine he played behind better because of how fast he got rid of the ball.
