OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

It is really early. I agree. I do hope he improves. I hate to be a Debby downer. Lol
Let's see where he ends up by seasons end. I do wish Bill gave him a legit #1 WR.
He is fine, but thats just it, he is fine. So far on that other board. I would think he is a cross between Brady, Joe Montana and superman. I dont expect him to be anything other than what he is, where people go off the beam, is saying he reminds them of Peyton manning, and my favorite. hey...did you see that comeback he did, that was Like Brady against the chargers in 01....No, it was not like Brady vs the chargers in 01. lol Both were comebacks, passing was way different.

If by some absolutely absurd Law and Order SVU twist there is some smoking gun proof that Watson is a victim of an elaborate money grabbing conspiracy I’d trade for him in a second. But, and this is far more likely, he just quietly settles out of court and everyone involved has NDAs to never speak of any of this again then no I want nothing to do with him, same as with that sh.ithead Big Ben up in Pittsburg it he was still good and suddenly available.

I’m not saying I’ll want him drawn and quartered, some other team can take on that baggage if they want idgaf, just not my team sorry.

Good times. Good times. Usenet. Good ol' SAR a legend in his own mind bragging about his wealth and "Tollbooth Bob" Jensen, Jests fantasist. And then there was Bender on the Bills Usenet. Bills fans hated Flutie and wanted Rob Johnson, the tackling dummy at QB because like archetype Bledsoe he was "tall and had a strong arm". Bills screwed the pooch and lost their brief window of long shot opportunity playing RJ instead of Doug Flutie.
Had a football fan on Usenet track be down to my job, sending a letter to my CEO and threatening
If you are talking about a Bill fan, they were quite rabid about the whole Rob Johnson, Doug Flutie debate. I followed Flutie from CFL to NFL. He was always a winner wherever he went but wasn't given a fair shake in the NFL due to not meeting the prototype QB of the day, similar to pocket QBs today.

It was incredibly boneheaded for the Bills to bench Flutie for Johnson, before their playoff game, after leading the Bill's to the playoffs as a starter. In that playoff game, I recall Johnson having no touchdown in the 1st half in fact the Bills might have been scoreless, in route to a lousy performance and a playoff loss. Flutie left and the Bill's were crap for 2 decades.

The Flutie/Johnson saga had similarities to the Bledsoe/Brady debate. EXCEPT the Bill's benched the winner while the Pat's kept the winner on.

Also the argument debated was similar to the JG/Brady debate. Many wanted to move on from the winning QB to go to the QB of the future. They were more worried about winning over the next 20 years then winning a SB over the next couple years. Not realizing that moving on from a winner can have other repercussions such as going from contender to rebuilding losing years which can last a couple years if lucky. Or a couple decades like the Bill's. And the surefire QB of the future could be recycled with someone else every several years. Fans were banking on Stidham, then Newton, now Mac and it has only been 2 years.

All I can say about Mac is that the organization better not neglect the offense (as they did with Brady) and make the offence the priority to put him in the best position to succeed.

We had Brady Gronk & AB on our team and our coach/owner screwed it up.

These Bucs sure are fun to watch. It’s tough watching the pats handoff 3x in red zone to a special teamer then kick a field goal

One of my favorite Flutie moments from his time at BC was when they played Clemson. Right after Flutie released a pass you could see that a player, very possibly William "Fridge" Perry, was lining Flutie up for what looked like a borderline late hit. At the last moment Flutie took a quick step to his right, grabbed Perry by the front of his shirt, spun him around and slammed him into the ground like he was a rag doll. The announcer made a comment against Flutie at the time but I thought it was great.

Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians said earlier this week that it will be “very, very close,” when asked about tight end Rob Gronkowski playing this week after missing two weeks with injured ribs, but he turned out to be too far away to get on the field.

Gronkowski has been ruled out for the Bucs’ Thursday night game against the Eagles. The Bucs will have an extended break before facing the Bears in Week Seven and that may be the time for his return to the lineup.

The Buccaneers also ruled out linebacker Lavonte David and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. David hurt his ankle in last Sunday’s win over the Dolphins and Winfield missed that game with a concussion.

There's zero chance that Watson for Mac is a straight up trade.

You can take it to the bank that the Pats would get absolutely taken to the cleaners if they tried to get Watson. Is BB ok with that? Does Bill want to go for it and win now no matter the cost? Or is he patient enough to see Mac develop and will he want to stick around for that long? Guess we'll see.

I do think Bill is paying a lot of attention to the narrative that he is nothing without Brady and that might influence his decision. Wickersham's book says that Bill was more worried about his own legacy after deflategate than his quarterback's.... so you know he is aware of what people think.

It's interesting that to date absolutely none of the rookie QBs look anything like Herbert did last year. Mind you some of their teams absolutely suck. And the Pats seem to have the reins on Mac so we don't know what will happen yet when they come off.

Dude, put down the pipe. Watson will never play for the Patriots. Not going to happen.

Yeah I’m sure Kraft will say no anyway so moot point

That trade makes no sense.

Watson isn't a transcendant talent.

At this point in the season he would be downgrade having no knowledge of the playbook and zero chemistry with any players.

If Mac was looking like a failure that might make sense, but Mac is very promising and looks like a franchise QB

Bills legacy IMO will be as follows:

1) defensive genius
2) notorious cheater
3) his unprecedented success as a HC was the result of having the greatest Qb/player to ever play the game

They'll need Gronk for the Bears and Saints. Philly D isn't as fordimable although I am surprised they surprisingly have a good pass defense

I don't know of any team who we could expect to consistently shut down the Bucs, even without Gronk. I just don't know of any team that has both the DBs and the coverage LBs to do it.
