OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Bucs in Top 100 (voted by players)

(1-10). Brady
28. White
43. David
48. Evans
59. Pierre-Paul
81. Godwin
88. Barrett
89. Wirfs

That's a lot of top players, and I think Vea (not ranked) is actually their second or third best overall player.
Vea is their most important for sure after Brady. No coincidence that Barrett and JPP went wild once he returned.

Lol. This is so me. I keep telling my kids that I am done when Brady retires with the NFL. At this rate I might be 60 before he is done.
Count me there too. I want to be more of a casual fan and check up on the NFL once in awhile, but I'm waiting for Brady to retire first.

Where's Gronk or is blocking like a defensive lineman not flashy enough for TE. Plus very good not great receiving numbers. Lastly, he was awesome in the playoffs and topped it off with 2 TD in the SB.

I would rank him anywhere between #2 to #5 behind Kelce last year for TE.

With his blocking ability and clutch factor to go along with decent yards(maybe 500 to 800) and TD(5 to 10) for this year. I would have ranked him somewhere near the middle of the top 100.

For receiving TE, he probably is about #5 for 2021.
For a complete package TE, who is better? Kittle yes. Anyone else is debatable.

Small sample size and all but only two teams have ever won the SB the year after losing it. One had the GOAT QB and Coach (18 Pats) and the other had an undefeated Dolphins team coached by another all time great. That’s it.
Actually the Fins were convicted of cheating in order to get that all time great HC and were fined a record amount and lost their first round pick. By Don Shula's own logic each of those Fin SB wins should have an asterisk attached.

It still hurts to see him in another uniform.
It really does. It is doubly painful because we had no viable QB to replace him and he was not asking to be the highest paid QB even though his play and legacy easily demanded it. I know we will never get the full story of what really happened between him and Bill but after everything they went through together - the Bledsoe trade, spygate, Deflategate, losing the perfect season, etc - it is amazing that it deteriorated with Bill jerking around with his trainer and then mismanaging the roster/cap so badly that it became untenable to keep him at even a discounted contract.

Donkey Kong's snaps will be spread around, and he'll have plenty of time to recover. It should (repeat.... should) be no big deal.

Tom brady listed number 7 in the top 100 lol. Seriously the man has 7 titles and is one of the most disrespected athletes. He should be in the top 5 at least. What a joke. The list lost all credibility.
Everyone will look at his age and say "this is the year". The man's 176 years old. I don't think it matters if he's rated #7 rather than #1 at this point.

He should have been #1.
Who was more valuable than him to their team?

Seems a bit low to me. I was hoping he’d get top 5, but whatever. I actually like Kelce, but there’s no way a one dimensional tight end belongs ahead of Brady.

I just hope Rodgers finishes behind Mahomes because you know how he’ll take it.

Looks like top 5 is:

5. Kelce
4. Henry
3. Rodgers
2. Donald
1. Mahomes

In 2019, Donald finished ahead of Mahomes for #1.

Now Mahomes & Family can’t cry and pout about not being #1…even though he was less worthy of it this year.

Brady's been voted #1 three times. Don't think he cares about this stuff.

This isn't debating or disagreeing with you rather just thinking out loud.

Did BB mismanage the roster/cap or did he go all in for Brady's last few years and Brady just outplayed the timeline?

@Ice_Ice_Brady @Deus Irae what do you think?

.7 titles-number 7 in top 100, 2020 .8 titles-number 8 in top 100, 2021. .I'm okay with it I guess

Bucs have EIGHT players in the top 100. Lol

Pats have nobody above 44 (Gilmore). Makes sense right now I guess.

He definitely didn’t go all-in for Brady’s last few years. If he did, he would have backloaded contracts and traded draft picks for known commodities. He continued working within the 1-2 year cap responsibility window whereby the team is very competitive every year, even if they’re not maximizing every move to win-now like the Broncos 2012-15, Saints, 2018-20, and Bucs (starting now, we’ll see more of that.)

He tried get Brady weapons. Traded a first for Cooks, but that wasn’t a great fit. Three more firsts spent on Wynn, Michel, and Harry. Signed AB. So it‘s not like he purposely left Brady out there in 2019 like that.

There are two issues that, I think, caused it to end:

1. Brady, and Gronkowski, partially due to their aging, didn’t want to be mico-managed about rest, nutrition, etc. and wanted a more laid back (and common sense) coach. And I think that‘s where the Brady—Bill schism begins…a guy who wants to do it his way, and his way also has an unprecedented timeframe for how long he can play, and a controlling, “year too early is better” coach who isn’t okay with this on numerous levels.

2. The Patriots drafting is barren for years, which makes it an easier decision, because Brady is no longer bound to the Patriots as “the best chance to win.” However, I’d say the way Bill went about the entire process, including the way he approached free agency, the 2020 season, etc. really makes it difficult to buy that he was rebuilding…rather, I believe he thought he was simply swapping out the position and would be fine.

From that perspective, Brady made a decision that benefitted him, but the Patriots happily watching him walk away, was that the best decision for them? Absolutely not. If they could have convinced him to stay, knowing 2020 would be challenging but seeing all the cap space in 2022, they’d be Super Bowl favorites right now and are probably still contending through at least 2023. The 2020 cap “situation” had nothing to do with this…they absolutely could have kept him and worked the contract in one of many ways. It had to do with them, and Bill, refusing to get on their knees and beg, as any other franchise would have done in this case. But not only did they refuse to beg, they really didn’t do anything. They treated him like every other aging player, hoping he’d have almost no market and would come running back to them.
