OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

can’t wait to read the excuse for the Butler fiasco
I wouldn’t hold your breath. But we’ll see. It stands alone as the worst decision he has ever made, or hopefully ever will make. Cost his team a Super Bowl for no good reason.
Bill has always come across as a really small person. Petty, insecure, vindictive, massive grudge holder.
I hope we don’t have to start doing this though. Really, you always felt that way about him? I’m sure he’s a flawed guy, but he welcomed back a lot of players he could have had grudges against. Let’s not go crazy here.

Sure. Everyone is flawed. Bill has some great characteristics too. You don't make it 5 decades in the NFL without being a pretty savvy person.

Oh I won’t deny that I’m interested. My pet theory is that Pats team sources just completely throw Brady under the bus for deflategate.
I think it’s probably a follow up to the ESPN feature article a couple years back about the Tom/Bill/Kraft power struggle.

Here’s Amazon’s description and it seems to confirm the above.
In It's Better to Be Feared, Seth Wickersham, one of the country’s finest long form and investigative sportswriters, tells the full, behind-the-scenes story of the Patriots, capturing the brilliance, ambition, and vanity that powered and ultimately unraveled them. Based on hundreds of interviews conducted since 2001, Wickersham’s chronicle is packed with revelations, taking us deep into Bill Belichick’s tactical ingenuity and Tom Brady’s unique mentality while also reporting on their divergent paths in 2020, including Brady’s run to the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If it’s “pro Bill” I think Pats sources blame Brady for heading out the door but that’s about it. They won’t touch deflategate or any other gate and it’s best for all it’s left that way.

The decision to tape the Jets without consulting the league - which led to Spygate - is worse than that but yeah those two decisions stand alone compared to all others. Both of them didn't just affect a game or season they affected the franchise in very negative ways. The Butler benching to me was the straw that broke the camel's back and ultimately led to Brady and Gronk’s exit.

I think Spygate makes a lot of HOF voters not put Bill on their ballot and that’s unfortunate.

The Buccaneers have added another offensive lineman.

Tampa Bay announced on Monday that the team has signed tackle Jonathan Hubbard. Hubbard had a tryout with the team over the weekend...

...The Buccaneers will have to make a corresponding roster move at some point before the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday. Tampa Bay’s roster had been trimmed to 80 players before signing Hubbard.

Spygate like Deframegate were both railroad jobs by the NYJFL.

The recording on the sidelines wasn't illegal per the actual rule book. It was just in a memo and even the memo only said to be used during the game, and that footage obtained was never used during games.

Roger Goddell very much is about marketing and loves to make a heel storyline to draw more interest.

He did it with the Saints when they looked poise to have a strong run.

Viewers need to be invested, and watching someone you hate can be almost as entertaining as watching someone you love.

Dude is already keeping the door open to playing at 46. God I never want this ride to end.
I'm torn on the issue. The longer Brady plays, the more Brady and Patriots games I get to enjoy. On the other hand, the longer Brady plays, the longer I'm stuck following the NFL.

Lol. This is so me. I keep telling my kids that I am done when Brady retires with the NFL. At this rate I might be 60 before he is done.

I won't stop watching after Brady retires but he has given me more than I could have ever expected out of the game.

1. Brady shows up and the Patriots win 3 in 4 years. "BeliGenius". "Belichick's system".

I bought into that narrative at the time.

2. "The Pats haven't won a championship since spygate.". Those ten years were brutal. Getting so close year after year. To me Spygate was easily BS because although they hadn't won a SB they still kept winning and actually won more.

3. Super Bowl 49. I have never wanted more for someone that I didn't know personally than that game. I wanted the Pats to win so badly and the ups and downs during the game were off the charts. I couldn't believe it when Butler picked that ball. I probably screamed at a higher pitch than Brady. Haha

4. Deflategate. Roger - "if you throw the ball boys under the bus this will be over". Brady - "Fvk off".

That's when Brady became more than just a football player. He became something much bigger. And then Atlanta happened, the 28-3 happened, the booing Shytdell off of the stage happened. One of the best memories of my sporting life.

5. Things went south. They lose to Philly although Brady had one of his best post season performances but managed to snap up another ring somehow against the Rams. But he wasn't the same or at least the BB and Brady relationship seemed different. I called it a divorce. Some blamed Belichick and some blamed Brady but as of right now Brady wins any BB vs Brady arguments.

6. The "system QB" wins in another system???? This to me is an otherworldly accomplishment. He won a championship without Bill, in another system and in his first year. What???

He shattered the system QB argument, he's shattered any GOAT argument and he has proven that that he didn't cheat or need to throw anyone under the bus to get to where he is. Which is the ****ing greatest.

So I'll still watch football but already know that I've already seen the best that I'll ever see.

I love this post, though I doubt I’ll watch much football when TB12 retires.

I'm already much more of a casual fan. Following Pats & Bucs but no longer know all their players and stopped knowing their rivals. Used to have training camp binkies but now I can't name all the rookies and FAs.
Of course part of this may well be the aging process.
Will be onboard as long as TFB is a playah.

Bucs in Top 100 (voted by players)

(1-10). Brady
28. White
43. David
48. Evans
59. Pierre-Paul
81. Godwin
88. Barrett
89. Wirfs

That's a lot of top players, and I think Vea (not ranked) is actually their second or third best overall player.

We've placed K Ryan Succop on the reserve/COVID-19 list. In addition, T Chidi Okeke was waived/injured, and RB Troymaine Pope landed on injured reserve.
