Jonnu and Agholor both had bounce back years after leaving, we already know. We're going to find out very soon if the real king of the griddy was a product of a bad QB and/or offense. He's got two outside WR's for defenses to worry about.
Mac folded because he sucks. But I'll put you in the delusional category with Rkarp above, you obviously think Mac will take Trevor Lawrence's job since he's merely been average and Mac's team has been holding him back... right? He folded because the script was to run the ball to set up the pass. Defenses started punching NE's initial attack in the mouth and they were dead to rights after that because they have among the worst skill players at WR in the NFL.
The very next matchup was a close 33-21 loss for the Patriots. I call it "close," but when Mac Jone's stat line looks like this :They would've gotten blown out had there not been any wind. That was proven in the next two matchups. Buffalo was built for the air and not the ground where NE was.
14-32 attempts, 145 yards passing, 0 TD's, 2 INT's, 1 FMBL
You don't have a chance when your QB sucks to high heaven and has sucked since the bye week when teams compiled film on his and know all his weaknesses. Mac after the bye week in week 13 of his rookie year when his team was great turned it over 8 times in five games, completed about 59% of his passes for roughly 6 yards per clip... he stunk. That's who he was for the next two years. This was when conditions were perfect... nobody ruined Mac. he was just terrible.
If Mac was Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow instead they would be built for shootouts. Mac sucked... but we'll see if he beats out Lawrence for that job like you suspect he should... being a good QB and all. They weren't built for shootouts. Their strength was running the ball, controlling the clock and setting up high percentage passes for Mac while the defense was holding the opposition. When that doesn't work, they can't go off script and start throwing the ball. They were basically built like the Ryan/Mark Sanchez '09-'10 Jets, the Vrabel/Tannehill Titans, etc.
