OT: Christian McCaffery deal to San Fran

Actually happy for the kid. He's a REALLY good player, who's had to play for some really crappy teams. Now's he's with a good team. We'll see, Carolina (who is tanking) got a great haul in return.

Kyle is a loozah. Mind boggling horrendous trade. These are the same idiots who passed on Brady still in his prime. Never gonna win nada,

Dang that’s a win-win-win. Hats off to the 49ers for pulling it off and a great player has a real shot at a Super Bowl now.

Good to have him signed through 2025 given what they gave up. Obvious question is, how many games will he miss in the meantime? Interesting “all-in” moves seeing it isn’t clear who their QB is in 2023. NFC does look wide open and weak at the top this year though.

The 49ers were in the NFC Championship game last year and likely would have won it if they were healthier and Garoppolo didn’t choke. They have a championship caliber defense and the only weakness on offense is the QB now. McCaffrey should take pressure off of Garoppolo.

Glad for him and especially glad he didn’t go to the Bills. But now the nines have hardly any draft picks left after giving up everything for Lance . They have to hope he pans out when he comes back !!

Win-win for both teams

49ers paid too much for him based on his injuries.

Based in what he could be, they got a bargain.

That's the only way to see it depending on one's views of McCaffery - if I had to hazard a guess, I think they'll regret the trade when all is said and done, given how Shanahan's run game has been using low and mid-round draft picks for several years anyway (like father like son) and it unlikely he'll send them over the top.

Had this been Buffalo or even KC, we'd be having a different conversation.

So the 49ers are basically sitting out the 2023 draft. Their first pick next year will be in the fifth round.

The Rams seem to have started a trend of mortgaging the future for a Super Bowl now. It worked out for the Rams (at least one year). I am not sure every team will have the same success.

Lynch was already on the hot seat, but he really is now. Lance looks to be a bust. If McCaffery is constantly injured like he has been in recent years, that should be the final death knell in Lynch's reign as GM.

The 49ers are all in to win this year because odds are good they will take a major step back next year with Garoppolo gone and Lance as the starter. And they have no choice but start Lance next year. Lynch cannot survive if he used three first round picks to draft a QB who started two games in his career.

No. 21: New England ? Kansas City (D). New England traded its first-round selection (21st overall) to Kansas City in exchange for a first-, third-, and fourth-round selections (29th, 94th, and 121st overall).

Carolina (D). Multiple trades:
Kansas City ? New England (D). See No. 21: New England ? Kansas City.[trade 12]
New England ? Carolina (D). New England traded its third-round selection (94th overall) to Carolina in exchange for a fourth-round selection (137th overall) and a 2023 third-round selection.

The pats may have turned the 21st pick into Cole Strange, Jack Jones, Bailey Zappe & the 1st pick of the 3rd round in 2023. The trade keeps getting better for the pats.

Part of me wonders if this is them going “all in” this year, or if it’s more about having a great back to take pressure off of Lance the next several years.

You have to think that they are trying to protect the investment they made in Trey Lance ... They gave up a lot to get him and the returns have been a red shirt rookie season and one complete game in year 2 vs Chicago where he didn't do so well...

It looks like they overpaid for CMC imo to take the pressure of of Lance next year

Probably abit of both. Team has shown they can win with Jimmy so why not. Also Lance is still a big unknown. Also takes pressure off Jimmy who can just manage the game more.

Massive overpay by the niners. But I think shanahan/lynch are making this move to try and save their job.

Good move by the Panthers to get picks which are huge for a rebuilding team. Look at the Patriots last two drafts. Some good picks can transform a team.

If I'm the niners I'd be trying to see if I can keep Jimmy G another year. He's not "elite" but has shown he can at least win games. Lance is an unknown and now coming off an injury. If Jimmy leaves next year and lance looks like a bust, coaching staff could be on the hot seat
