OT: Brandon Marshall to Miami for 2010 2nd and 2011 2nd

The kneejerk, woe is me, chicken little mentality is almost comical here these days. For all his talent, Marshall has yet to be a sufficient difference maker on two distinct teams with two different systems, QB's and coaching staffs. He comes with some baggage and issues that will be challenging to manage let alone flush with cash and giddy to be away from Denver and in a stabilizing environment like South Beach. The Dolphins have numerous issues yet to resolve like NT, OLB, SS, DE... It's been a long time since Tuna and his minions have built a playoff caliber team... Never got over the hump in Dallas. Made some shortlived noise in the AFCE with a gimmick offense they are now distancing themselves from. They were going to have to replace Ginn and upgrade WR whether in the draft or via trade. They chose to trade for a veteran WR, albeit one who has been a headache for the two regimes he's served and who remains basically any incident away from a 4 gamer... But that leaves them with a lot of holes yet to fill and only one draft pick in the top 72...

I don't know if you're being serious but 07 isn't happening again, ever.

Adversity in April and you clowns are blubbering.

The AFC East is going to be one of the best divisions in the NFL this year. I have to the Dolphins' future is looking pretty good. Sean Smith and Vontae Davis look like big hits, and Brandon Marshall is capable of being the best receiver in the league if he can get his head together.

I still think the Pats can come up on top in the AFC East, but we're going to need help on the dline for sure.

I am just wondering how the dolphins will run there offense now....Granted it is a good trade for them but will they run the wildcat less to have marshall as a possible receiver on more plays or will they continue to run the wildcat a lot and frustrate marshall as he knows ronnie brown will not be throwing the ball downfield? It will take away from one part of there offense to do the other.....

And, let's not forget that McDaniels appears to be right about trading Cutler. If little Joshie says Marshall isn't worth it then maybe he's not and it'll turn out being a minus trade for the Fins. I've got $5 that says Miami was a place Marshall wanted to be - for the weather but not for the team. Henne? Marshall is saying. Henne? Another bum throwing me the ball? Great...

Listen, Brandon Marshall could of done it. Look at his production. They double, triple cover him and he still can't be stopped. With a bum throwing him the ball.

And when McDaniels was making his final playoff push, Marshall apparently P***ed him off to the point that Marshall was suspended for their must-win season finale. You'd think a chance to make the playoffs would appeal to Marshall, but apparently not.

Plus he's going to Miami. Forget about the team for a moment; I'm talking about the city of Miami. I think the odds that Marshall will get a major suspension just went up dramatically.

The only blubber I see is coming from Rex Ryan's direction when he hosts up that Lombardi trophy.

That's fine for you Jets fans to think in April.

The end of the Ted Ginn era

Just when I thought the Patriots were going to bridge the gap between the Jets by obtaining Marshall............. Josh has one upped the Pats one more time! Division rivals improve while ancient New England lay dormant swimming in draft pics.

Well, there you go. The real problem isn't this team, it's a delusional madden generation fanbase... There weren't many takers for Marshall, period. There is a reason for that. Tuna thinks he's still the Jedi mind bender. Good luck with that.

The Dolphins have other pressing issues just like all the other teams in the AFC East, but to downplay this move by the Dolphins is just as comical as the Chicken Little's reaction. He's had over 100 catches the past 3 years and dominated our secondary last year. If he's not a difference maker in your eyes, then your just not being objective.

If I had a choice, I would send 2 second round picks for a proven player like Marshall rather than take my chances on a crapshoot like the draft. But that's just me.

The end of the Ted Ginn era

Not to mention the end of the Pat White/wildcat era. What a waste of a second that was... He's now twittering he wished he stuck with baseball...

Re: AFC East add ons

Jets: Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes, LaDainian Tomlinson
Dolphins: Karlos Dansby, Brandon Marshal
Pats: Marques Murrell, David Pattern, Alge Crumpler, Damion Lewis

But hey, we have 3 2nd round picks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, you conveniently left off the offseason LOSSES of the fins and jets. Half of their 'gains' are replacements. Only Holmes and Marshall are improvements.

Why make fun of all our draft picks? If the Jets had three, and we had none, you'd be pushing the panic button.

Be honest now. If we lost Bodden and picked up Cromartie, if we lost Wilfork and picked up Dansby, would be be saying we improved ourselves?

Josh already planted the seed in Marshall during the pre season. That ship was sailed. How about we take a larger sample size, IE 99% of the season where he burned defenses like a bigger faster version of Wes Welker. I would take my chances with Marshall over "My shoulder and heart was seperated" Moss.

This has nothing to do with Madden, it's about the needs of this team and all the other division rivals improving while we horde draft picks. Rookies don't have proven production.

Okay, let's be objective. What difference did he make in Denver? Pray tell. Be objective. What did they do that was so great that he made the difference in? He has the POTENTIAL to be a difference maker, just like Dez Bryant. But he has yet to BE one.

He is a difference maker on fantasy football teams, for sure, but has yet to be so in the NFL.

I do find it quite amusing that some of you are holding on to our draft picks being a factor this season for a SB run...draft picks usually pan out in productivity in 2-3 years at the earliest...what we have as a nucleus of a team right now is what we have, draft picks may help a little but us usual they won't be much of a huge difference maker......if this team is going to be better than 3rd in the East I would hope for some kind of two or three good veteran trades at key positions to keep this team from dropping to 3rd,I would assume the team does something other than sign some JAGS in mid June and have hope that 4 rookies pan out.

Maybe the inevitable happens and the team has to sit back and watch others prosper again...If it happens,it happens, all Elite teams at some time do fall and realistic fans are ready for it.

Other than the ad nauseum homers who still believe this team is SB bound, fact is this team is getting less and less experienced with every proven veteran trade from other teams in the division who are getting a bit of both,I think a good part of the team is in rebuilding phase in force in 2010

While some here may ridicule chicken littles,....some here who are homer radicals are just as annoying and always feel the Pats will be on top as always are ignoring the possibility they may not be kings of the hill anymore and are building for the future while sacrifising the present for it to happen. - I really see no problem in stepping down off the perch for a year or two if it takes this team time to once again be an Elite team.

Some need to grow up and realize Elite teams and SB contenders don't last forever.

I think we all need to take a realistic approach to the next season, sit back and watch our new young players be the future of the next generation of the Patriots

As in real life, sometimes you need to step back a little in order to move forward down the road.

"Kneejerk" is just the nature of the beast when moves like this happen within the division. Don't know why you seem surprised.

I would agree that if they can't lock up Marshall in a long-term deal, this will hurt Miami in the long run. They gave up a lot if it's for a one-year rental.

Marshall was a borderline cancer, but only went over the top when Josh arrived and traded Cutler. Sporano and Co. probably will be able to deal with him a lot better than the Napolean-like rookie boy coach could.

Marshall is friggin beast--no other way to slice it. Let's not forget that, like the Pats, Miami and the Jets aren't finished in re-shaping their rosters in the offseason. Pats need to make some moves other than relying totally on the draft, or we will be looking up at both Miami and NY at the end of the season.

I don't know about that, but it would be intersting to know what kind of terms BB and McDaniels are on now. Seems to me like they haven't exactly remained best pals since Josh left. I don't read the Globe, ProJo, etc a lot so I don't know what kind of things (if any) they've said about each other after Josh moved on to bigger and better things.

Wha...wha....what?

BB and Josh get on fine, they chatted every few weeks on the phone (no I can't be bothered to find the link). Bill would not have written a 5 page summary of every skill a NFL Head Coach needs, straight after the 2007 season ended, if he wasn't expecting to remain on good terms with McDaniels.

Josh stayed for the 2008 season and proved his ability by coaching up Matt Cassel. He went to Denver with the Patriots' blessing, everyone wished him luck. Yeah, he celebrated beating the Pats in Denver, but can you blame him? It was huge for him because it proved he was legit in the eyes of the Broncos' fans.

Oh, and in response to the rest of this godforsaken thread:

THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!

And what did that ever net Denver beyond a dead cornerback... Shannahan washed his hands of this kid at the end of his run despite his talent. Josh has done the same. Tuna has the kind of ego that believes he can manage talented problem children. Although he's struggled to where this new generation that makes more than him is concerned...

There is a good reason Parcell's isn't here any more and Belichick is. It's the same reason in many respects that Kraft doesn't let the fanbase run this team...
