The mental aspect and him throwing high to receivers are the biggest things holding him back. I'm not sure, having watched him in pre-season and the first game, he sees the field all that well. He does seem to miss seeing open receivers at times. All I want from him is week to week progression.
Yep and I have been a massive Maye fan. Was never a Jones fan but man I am starting to waver just a teeny bit. You are correct I am looking for week to week progression and saw a bit Sunday but not much. Need to see more, and the protection was actually pretty damn good if you look at it.

I don't like Aaron Rodgers much but he was that same way against the Jets Sunday. Not pretty but they scored 30+ points by doing the little things to make plays, taking hits, etc., keeping the Steelers in the game.

I think that's why all the old captains are no longer here.
I can't believe Peppers, Cardona, Andrews accepted losing easily. I don't know what the story is with Peppers, he's been on many teams, but he never seemed like a quitter to me. I liked his game. I never understood the Hawkins love. He made a couple flash plays but it inconsistent.

I don't know if they accepted it or didn't. Threw trash cans across the the room or sat and pouted at their locker. I do know that none of them are here anymore. I believe it's not a coincidence.

You can’t develop clutchness.
But you can develop a comfort level and ability to execute at a high level. I guarantee that you are better at your job now than you were in your first year (assuming you work).

When I said assuming you work, that was not a dig but I don't know you and you could be retired or choosing not to work. Point is people develop a comfort level and perform better

Why aren’t we talking about the punt down 10 with 5 minutes to play at midfield?
Vrabel talked about it yesterday. He said he was confident in going for it on 4th and 5, but once the penalty pushed them to 4th and 10, he was less confident and thought they had a better chance to win by punting, pinning the Raiders deep and relying on his defense. He then basically said he didn't expect Baringer to then only punt it 20 yards, which really changes things.

He was pressured a lot but the OL did a very good job of giving him enough room to only have to move slightly and get a throw off. Pressure comes in many forms, you can have a "pressure" where there's still a tiny pocket or the pocket moves, vs a "pressure" where the QB has to get the hell outta there. So that was encouraging.

Because we are too busy dooming the future?

So the question remains, would you have gone for it? Seems like punting and playing defense isn't the right call because the Raiders would run some clock and you're still down 2 scores.

McDaniels bears plenty of responsibility, for refusing to at least try to run the ball.

But he can't go out there and throw wide open checkdowns for Maye.
I always assume the Miami away game is a loss. If they can win that one, I will consider us even with the board.

Well the "new school" line of thinking is to go for it because you're down 2 scores and you don't have much to lose. I'm guessing Vrabel looked at it as - if we fail to convert then the Raiders get great field position and we may end up down 3 scores, which is impossible. If we punt and pin them deep we will still have a shot to get it back with decent field position and decent amount of time, and that that was more likely than his confidence of converting a 4th and 10.

I don't mind the call. Vrabel was putting faith in his defense to make some plays. I think people would argue the defense should be the strength of our team. The fact that they didn't and maybe aren't is concerning and is what led Vrabel to call out the mental toughness of the team. Are they willing to put in the work to get tougher? That's what I'm looking to see in Miami.

They really had peaks and valleys. They looked bad to start the game, then looked pretty strong in the middle portion with all of the sacks, run stops, etc. But then in crunch time, they faltered some. If they can even that out and play consistently, perhaps a bit worse than the "week 1 peak" but even throughout a whole game, it will be a solid unit.

That rep is def something to get excited about. Campbell has VERY quick feet.
Did you see where someone mailed him a T. rex and asked him to sign it. Instead he’s keeping it in his locker as motivation.

I disagree, you can gain experience what to do in situations but you either have the speed of thought and the vision or you don’t.

Same in all sports, not specific to NFL.
That's ********

Josh Simmons truthers not looking too hot on that one.
Eh he looked all right. He'll be a good one if that patella holds up.

I hate to say it, but Mac was able to run JMD's offense as a rookie. He lacked "tools", but operated the offense with better reading of D and hitting open guys... it was the next 2 years of BB head games that screwed him.

Drake is in his 1st year of this offense, but has NFL experience now, and should have some basics down.
Let's hope the head games of last year and this transition is happening in reverse, and he'll figure it out this year.
No he really didn’t.
He missed receivers consistently and checked down. He was afraid to throw to the primary target. Once defenses figured that out he was done.

Maye is processing correctly. He is making the right decision most of the time. The decision is:
1) is my first profession open. If yes throw it if no go to 2
2) is my second progression open if yes throw it, if no go to 3
Etc etc and when danger presents itself escape it.

It’s not Mayes fault that McDaniel decided to epically ignore the running game and beg the defense to take away what was working.
Maye was 14/20/150 and a TD with a half dozen 15-20 air yards throws. Thats a very good half.

McDaniels stopped running the ball, invited the defense to cover the area we were successful in and decided it was smart to throw a bunch of dump off passes to RBs against a zone defense that knows we won’t run the ball.
