Maye has a long way to go. I had hopes of a big jump in year 2 with JMcD and it may still need more time but his comparisons (by himself?) to josh allen at draft time look very far off right now.
That kind of hype is normal. Fans always hope that their team has just drafted a player as good as anyone in the NFL. I finally accepted that we made the best choice (after wanting to wait for Nix or Penix). I'm fine with our choice. We made a good choice with the information available, and we still haven't a real clue. That being said, I don't think that Maye should have or should even be mentioned in the same breath as the top 5 QB's (Jackson, Allen, Mahomes, Herbert and Burrow).

He will be fine, all OC get tunnel vision with play calling in some games.
I don't care if we Lose against Miami: I just want Maye to play a clean game. It's all about developing him: a Team is nothing without a Good QB.

Bro. Shut up.

I question your fandom TBH. I think you're a fan of winning but not a fan of the Patriots. Like a Yankee fan.
Been a PatsFan since 1984: seen a lot of lean years before BB/Brady.

Vrabel on the radio this morning talking about Drake Maye:

"I think that he wants to be, at times, perfect - and I need to get past that. We all have to get past that. We need to be precise and not perfect, and if you make a mistake, it's the reaction that you have to the mistake that everybody sees, and then they're like 'oh wow yeah that was a mistake.' We have to clean our reactions up, our responses have to be much better. And then getting into the flow, because you see really good timing and and precision and accuracy, and then we see some other misses. I just want better performance, more consistent, and continue to grow as a leader and make sure that there is a command to what we're doing - 'this is the situation, this is the play' - those are the things that I'm focused on."

I'm not sure where he was going with the bolded part. I didn't see overt expressions of disappointment on the mistakes, but maybe I wasn't watching closely for that kind of thing.

Overall, though, to me these are the words of a coach that knows this season isn't about the wins, it's about the development of key players and weeding out those who aren't willing/able to fit the system.

Tell us again how Maye has looked sharp and was ready to go.

What a joke.
He had a very good first half. 14/20/150 and a TD. His top 2 targets caught 6 passes at an average of 18 yards down field.

It’s not Mayes fault that McDaniels decided to give Stevenson and Henderson a combined ZERO carries in the second half to hamstring Maye and make his job harder.

Tell me again how Hollins beat out Boutte.

I know you were. I just was continuing my thought. I feel a lot like Rick Pitino right now. The negativity stinks.
It’s the world we live in now I guess. Everything has to be immediate, including making determinations of a player after 1 game in a new system. And not just determinations of how good he can eventually be, but questions about his work ethic, fire, intellect and mental strength. I guess after losses I should just stay off the post game threads.

I hate to say it, but Mac was able to run JMD's offense as a rookie. He lacked "tools", but operated the offense with better reading of D and hitting open guys... it was the next 2 years of BB head games that screwed him.

Drake is in his 1st year of this offense, but has NFL experience now, and should have some basics down.
Let's hope the head games of last year and this transition is happening in reverse, and he'll figure it out this year.

He played a very good first half. Poor pass protection and play calling was the problem not Drake Maye

Defense allowed 9 plays of 20 plus yards! Team missed Gonzo more than I assumed they would.

What has you convinced that Maye is better than Nix or Penix?

Do you mean Bourne?? If so - I agree!
We either need to throw Williams in the fire now, or sign another serviceable pro. Bourne is still FA until 49ers snag him

Then fekkin' relax. Stop being an impetuous child. Maye is a young 23 yr old kid, and I think he's probably way too immature emotionally to lead them right now. Doesn't mean he can't grow into it, but let's give the kid a break. Like over the duration of his rookie deal.

I'm not.
I always wanted to trade down for Nix in '24. He might not have the potential ceiling, but hardly anyone ever reaches a ceiling when it's all based on visible "tools". Nix is a mature, steady QB, who can run an offense.
We'll see if JMD is able to return to the '20 Newton based offense to get this team going.

I get a bit of Ermey's GEICO therapist drill sarge vibe from that.

Vrabel said "We" the collaboration: from the Top down.

I didn't see anything either, but maybe the overly dramatic reactions Mac Jones had when he screwed up have just numbed us.

No @Triumph was telling us Hollins beat out Boutte and was a stud who will be great.
21 routes run 3 yards.

I don't think gonzo alone would have made much of a difference the way the defensive backs were plying. The radars wide out were running free with no one withing yards of them most of the day

More of your idiot lies.

I said that Hollins was 3rd until one of the younger WRs stepped up.

Tell us more about Maye failing because of the OC and OL.
