It was a winnable game if Maye didn’t throw it away.
The game stats don't look that bad - even in time of possession, only one turnover, over 300 yards offense. The only group in this game that looked good was the front seven that did great against the run, and played a pretty good overall game in pass defense with four sacks. The secondary really missed Gonzalez and Peppers. Gonzalez needs to get back as quickly as his injury will allow. Geno Smith had open receivers all day.

The offensive line in the running game did not help at all - 18 rushes for 60 yards. The RBs are very good but need some holes to run through. I think the whole offense was once ineffective due to poor line play. The nine penalties hurt as well, especially the dead ball penalties by the offense.

Maye completed passes to ten receivers and went 30 of 46 with one INT. He should not have to throw 46 passes in a game like this. My big complaint with Maye is the length of time he spends pre-snap. He should do more calling the play and just running the play. Particularly rushing downs, Maybe some no-huddle is in order early in the game.

So much more work to be done on offense. Get Diggs involved early and find a couple of running plays on Mike Onwenu's side of the line. The line must improve over time with more work together and the rookies gaining experience at this level. I agree that Josh McDaniels has to call a better game, and that Drake needs to get better,.

Not a terrible game, overall, but they could be so much better.

This. We had 6 sacks, INT, 56 yards rushing allowed and 20 points. That's a dam good day for a defense. The Raiders have a great wr in Myers and an all pro in Bowers that basically no one has an answer for. Why I'm encouraged? Outside of a few penalties Campbell was solid. I don't think Crosby had a sack?

The running game is was prevented us from play action. Had we established the run better you'd see a much better offensive fluency. I thought rham and Henderson would be running behind Campbell as his strength is run blocking.

However I am still encouraged and optimistic that this team will be better than last season.

Campbell wasn’t perfect but he more than held his own. Good to see. Wasn’t an easy opponent for him.

13th PFF grade out of 36 T’s not bad
Not bad overall but like Drake Maye costly mistakes when the game mattered

The Bills played the Ravens. Patriots played the team with the number 6 pick.
Bills gave up 40 points. They couldn't stop Henry to save thier life. They are the superbowl contender we are the team in a rebuild.

Fortunately, I felt like the tape review was going to be ugly, but it was surprisingly hopeful. Vrable nailed it in his press conference 100%. Maye made many good plays and had a few misses; team made too many 2nd half mistakes

Pretty insane view of the game some people have here though. Drake Maye had 3 bad throws, he had 1 pickable ball which was picked. He had 2 possible bad reads, leaving the pocket early on 1 of those. He had the strip sack, whether a blind side strip sack is on the QB you can debate. He had 46 attempts and over 50 total drop backs.

2 balls people claim were sailed actually were not sailed. There was no hero ball other than the pick, maybe, depends on your definition.

Unfortunately, though this is average for bad throws and well below average (in a good way) for bad reads the bad plays were so badly timed and the Pats are not good enough to overcome easy misses.

I will have a more detailed all 22 at some point and want to do a video for Maye analyzing each play but not sure I have the time for that.

I am waiting for Maye to have that game without the few mistakes. He played an average to slightly above average game for an NFL QB, unfortunately he has to be good to great. Expecting them to turn him into a game manager would be a long wait since they can't run the ball.

I was so depressed going into the tape review but the team has hope, but next week is an early must win. Got to stop seeing POTENTIAL and seeing actual success. If Vrabel is as good as I hope, a game like this in week 10 is a win. Just got to do it on the field.

Please give me Chism and cut snaps for Douglas and Hollins.

Last thought. The offense was in shotgun every snap but like 2. Both under center snaps were runs.

Not good
Ray Charles saw the that too very predictable.

After the calm down of 24 hours, I will say:

If the Patriots can build on that first half, I think we'll be in for a season that's at least fun to watch.
According to some.. I don't think they watched the first half... just the second half.

Remember when we used amendola and Jules together? Chism and pop on the field together could be very effective.

There were moments when Josh reminded me of when his offenses drove me nuts from years ago.

Pretty high expectations for a team with a 2nd year QB being protected by first years.

I can remember my first couple years on the job after getting my degree. Wasnt always pretty. Got a lot better over time.

Patience is rare these days, but this team deserves it.

I know a lot of us want to blame Maye, but I blame Josh on this loss.
1) The QB mechanics were off and he was out of rhythm. Reason: The coach makes sure a 22 year old QB focuses on this in practice.
2) No quality scheme running game...none
3) No three step quick passing game against the Raiders zone defense.
4) No balance in the offense...allowing the Raiders to tee off.
5) No RPOs or other plays Maye is likes.

It wasn't just the 50 ****en passes, it was the mix of 50 ****en passes.

Completely disagree. Maye crap the bed. Killed so many drive by missing wide open guys.

Coaching can’t do the work for Maye. Maye has to do it himself. Maye doesn’t seem to be a guy that is maniacal with his mechanics. He seem more of a « shrug it off, l’ll make a play next down » kind of players. He doesn’t seem to think mechanics matters. I see no improvement in Drake Maye mechanics and that’s on him. That’s his responsibility

Payaton manning had more ints than tds his first few years. first year 26 td vs 28 ints. he had similar numbers three of his first five years. Posters need to give the kid some time.
Everyone knew Manning was going to be a star early. Manning's interceptions were more from excessive aggression, throwing the ball downfield, and throwing the ball a lot. Manning was polished and ready to be an NFL starter from day one. Maye is a big question mark.

We will not be tolerating this level of even handedness when it comes to Will Campbell. He's expected to be Anthony Munoz. That's the floor.
