The 12 penalties (well, 11 since 1 was a field position punt thing) were pretty ugly.
agreed... didnt realize it was a dozen

damn, the more i think about it, this game could be best described as "having a great personality"

BB gets a lot of grief on patsfans.

Dude’s been a dawg recently. His last two drafts look very good and his third stringer was a first down away from leading them to three straight wins.
While PatsFans was busy excusing away those drafts from 2013-2020, he identified what the team was doing wrong, implemented changes, and we’re seeing those changes come to fruition. I was critical of the Strange pick, but he’s been an animal. Thornton has some serious potential as well.

Great win, excited to be back to .500. Thought defense was great and I continue to be impressed by Zappe. Definitely have some mistakes to clean up though, the penalties and bone headed mistakes are frustrating and may result in a loss against better teams.

Thought this was funny. Bill is like “wut”

Bill's reaction is gold.

Zappe beats Det and the Browns and of course many reactionary fans think Zappe is a better QB than Jones.
Sure, he looks good with no pressure and open receivers, but most any QB would.

I still think Jones is better. Possibly much better. But Zappe is far better than I thought he would be at this point.

with Guy out and Barmore injured in the 2nd quarter, our D line is pretty thin going forward. Barmore's knee could be a major problem going forward. Going to be an interesting week seeing how BB adjusts.

It is a good question, I was concerned when he went out but the team seemed to step up. Godchaux and Davis played well. We’ll see how it goes….

Forget who is going to start next week. The real question is….whom are we going to trade for a high first round pick next offseason, Mac or Zappe?
How would you feel about Hoyer backing up Zappe if Mac gets traded? Or do we need to draft Zappe’s replacement next year?

Sure, he looks good with no pressure and open receivers, but most any QB would. Not to add playing with the lead, which helps immensely.
He was pressured a lot today. Handled it well enough you didn’t even notice.

We can keep both. These guys are relatively cheap and each provide great insurance for the other.
Depends on how they handle it. I’m not sure Mac could gracefully accept being displaced from his starting role.

Yeah I’ll say it, IMHO Zappe is QB1. It won’t all be a basket of roses but he sees the field very well, can move around in the pocket and step up. Good mobility as well, he’s the guy moving forward.
I don’t think that will be the case. I think Mac gets his job back. But I think Zappe will get one more start vs Chicago next Monday night. Then Mac probably will be healthy enough for the game after that. If Zappe wins (he’d be 3-1), and is really impressive while doing it, then I think Mac will be on a short leash.

That's my feeling as well. Mac showed enough for me last year to believe that.

As I've been saying Mac has been banged up and since the team is winning AND Zappe is playing very well BB must see where this goes.

Well, unfortunately if Belichick chooses Zappe, the Raiders have made a big long term commitment to Carr. I could see McDaniels giving up a first for Mac otherwise.
Tampa Bay will need a QB. They might find one with experience being TB12’s successor very attractive.

Agreed. Especially with heightened focus on concussions. Every sack has the potential of knocking a QB out for a few games. Keep and develop both while they are on team-friendly contracts.

Winning 38-15 is not ugly.
Sure it is when you take into consideration :
Zappe, at one point, was pressured on 6 of the first 19 drop backs.
There were 8 penalties on NE in the 1st half. 6 on the offense.
The way Wynn was looking like a turnstile (he's looks like Kenyatta Jones did at RT)..
Bourne going down.
Barmore going down.
Cody Davis going down.

I still think Jones is better. Possibly much better. But Zappe is far better than I thought he would be at this point.

I actually have no idea what anyone has seen from Mac that would say Mac is much better?

Mac has talent and potential but he hasn’t really shown a lot outside of that

I am still not convinced Zappe is the starter when Jones comes back. He is making a good case for himself, but it was still the Browns. And next week is a bad Bears team.

I think the play calling has been far better in the last few weeks than it was early in the season. Patricia finally remembered the Patriots have TEs. I am not sure if Jones wouldn’t have played as well or better.

I‘m not married to either QB and want the one who is most likely to be the franchise QB of the future. I still think it is Jones, but Zappe is winning me over.
Mac got smoked by Miami (Pats can't win there, fine) and beat a bad Steelers team by 3 points. Then lost to the Ravens. Zappe also came off the bench in his first game in Lambeau and almost won. Would have won with better playcalling in overtime.
