I don't think I've seen Mac hit anyone more perfectly in stride over 50 air yards than that 57-58 air yard pass to Reagor, and it wasn't a moonshot floater. They absolutely need to do it again next game because there's good timing there. If he can't make that catch again (assuming Mac throws it well), then he needs to be cut.

Giants, AZ, Carolina and Bears are all clearly worse than pats. Best we can reasonably hope for is #5. We wont be getting Caleb Draye or Harrison
Unlless Mac gets injured or benched

Washington did an evaluation of their team and concluded they’re not contending for a Super Bowl so traded two promising players, Sweat and Young. who they knew they weren’t going to re-sign at their respective price tags. They now have additional 2nd and 3rd round picks.

The Patriots apparently don’t care about those things (like acquiring future assets) despite having some upcoming free agents they’re unlikely to sign. They were offered a 5th round pick for Uche but demanded a 4th and got nothing. They’re going nowhere this season and the fact they’d trade him for a 4th confirms they’re not extending him anyway.

Also the team that was reasonably willing to a sacrifice for the remaining 8 games for future assets defeated the team that clung stubbornly to their present assets and got nothing.

Trading away Young and Sweat clearly didn’t shatter the Commanders resolve today. I think people just don’t understand the league. The large majority of these guys would love to win a championship. And they’d love to win. But they’re also going to be in the league a very limited time. They’re going to replaced quickly, they’ll look for another team, maybe they’ll get another contract, and before long they’re out. Almost all of these guys are playing for their livelihood, to impress, to prove themselves each week. Everything they do on the field is being evaluated by not just one, but thirty two, potential employers.

In other words, the overwhelming majority of the Commanders roster doesn’t give a **** if Chase Young got traded. They’re not going to fall into an existential crisis. Do you think Sam Howell is thinking about things like this? He’s fighting for his life as an NFL starter. He knows the odds, the opportunity, the reward, etc.

This idea that teams “tank” or lose the ability to compete hard if the team is looking towards the future…largely a myth. Sure there are exceptions (veterans who took less to try to win) but those are very rare.

The Patriots shouldn’t “tank” inasmuch as tanking really exists, given that players aren’t going to stop playing their hardest so some team (maybe not where they’ll be next season) can move up three slots in the draft. But the Patriots should be doing everything possible to position themselves better for the future.

It’s absolutely hysterical that people here ask “well what would you have done differently huh?” to defend Belichick. Well none of us are getting paid $20-25 million a year to figure this all out. He is. WE don’t need to know the correct way. He does. And he failed.

What's the point? Any pass that hits a receiver in their hands is a pretty decent pass. The pass wasn't even broken up. Just went through his hands.

If we are going to claim bill addressed the WR position by signing juju why make it out that this was some difficult catch.

Some folks for whatever reason don't want Mac to be accountable at all. Don't really understand the thought process myself.

AJ brown, jamaar chase are WR1.

First I thought JuJu could have/should of been able to be a 1. And boy I don't know if ever been more wrong about anything in my life.

But in fairness there are maybe 5-10 guys in Jamar's league and another 50 or so starting WR positions in the league.

JuJu doesn't even look like one of the top 100 receivers.

Players do not tank and there is no incentive for them to play bad or lose. However coaches and GM's can go into tank mode. Look at Arizona, trading away Dobbs when they don't have a solid backup. How about Giants having only Tommy Devito as their backup today. Washington trading away their 2 best defensive players at the deadline when they have not been animated yet from the playoffs.
Some teams will start playing younger players and backups "to see what they have for teh future"- translation full tanking mode.

For teams with no hope for this season, like the pats, a covert tank is the best gift they can give to their fans...its hope that something better is coming.

Obvious pure tank move for Pats would be to play Zappe. I doubt they do this and think they should keep playing Mac in hopes that his trade value can be improved. Right now, I think you could only get a 5th or a 6th for him.

He said in his post game press conference that he specifically went after Forbes and that Forbes played a great game. I think I heard that Forbes struggled last week vs Eagles so they thought that was a good idea to target.

I think there's like a 70% chance they fire him if they completely miss the playoffs. Their window is slowly closing and they need to capitalize NOW on being contenders, missing the playoffs entirely instead is a huge blunder.

It will never be called a firing. It will be worded as "Bill and Bob have mutually decided that a parting of the ways will be best for both parties. Bill will be moving on to assume the Giants executive VP job overseeing all football operation"

Sadly another loss for the Patriots. They could have won but bad judgment and execution got in the way.

It will take a while, couple of years, and a QB before things turn around.
