I think he put the best team he thought on the field, it's not like he has 50 million in unused cap space. You can argue the guys he put out there aren't very good but I think he did what he thought was best.
I personally do not think the team was that bad, pre-injuries. The defense was very very good. The offense was fine. League-average QB play to go along with that defense would have been enough to beat teams like the Saints and Raiders easily. Probably a 10 win team. Obviously Mac did the opposite. They could definitely be better and will improve next year with certainty as cash becomes more available.

Yeah, I’m not saying he’s going to be remembered as trash, entirely carried by his quarterback, but very few people are going to say he stands on a peak that’s all his own.
I’m positive that’s our New England nonsense, I’m not sure the rest of the NFL fan base thinks like that. You imagine we want to **** can him? I’m sure there would be 4-5 teams out there lining up to snatch Billy up. At the age of “old as dirt”…

Even if Mac is being forced on him, he cannot tank the season to prove he is right on Mac. If that is why this team is in the position to prove a point, Kraft should fire him next week if they lose in Germany going into the bye.

Congratulations Bill, you are right. Mac can't play. Here's your pink slip. You helped out Jerod because next year as head coach of the Patriots, he will have a new starting QB.

If this was Belichick's plan, he is an idiot. Kraft put his reputation on the line defending Mac. This season is a disaster. You really think Kraft will be willing to say "Bill, you were right. You made me look like a fool. You made a point at the expense of my multi-billion football team. Point taken. Now let's talk about giving you an extension"?
I wouldn’t think they could be Bills plan. Or at least hope not .. He’s running out of days above ground himself …

I think so, too. Hence the rumors of Bill sniffing around about his trade value. Probably happened in January. But Kraft put an end to it and handcuffed Bill to Mac for another year because the media and fans all said Mac is actually good and Patricia just made him look bad and BOB would fix it. Obviously no way to know that that happened but that's a scenario I can see having occurred in my mind. Would also explain why Bill wouldn't have worked very hard to get a great second QB he could turn to if it didn't work out, because he was told "Mac is the guy, period" by ownership. It's almost spiteful, because having no good backup QB means that if Mac isn't good then the ship sinks and it's Kraft's fault - in Bill's mind.
I've had similar thoughts..

No, I wanted him to trade himself. It would have been the most gangsta’ Belichickian way to leave and we would have gotten some draft capital, but I think that ship has sailed now. I know there’s a few teams that would hire him if he was free, but I doubt they’re giving anything up for him at this point.

Haha … that’s rich !! Would be gangsta!!

so to the in bill we trust crowd.,why should he still be coaching on Monday?

I never could go all the way with saying he’s GoAT other than being a Pats fan It’s too hard to prove for a coach there’s too many arguments on either side that are compelling. With players it’s way easier to prove I think a coach with a coaching tree as very unsuccessful as his is a huge strike against him as is the fact he had any type of success with only one QB who happened to be the GOAT.
The coaching tree argument is dumb, are they supposed to get some kind of knowledge by osmosis from working with him, if they suck it's on them, not on Bill.

Who knows. Belichick seems to be stubborn and very concerned about when people question his decisions in recent years. So I cannot put it completely past him that he would do it especially since he might have though he had a good enough defense and running game to be competitive. But he seems to be too smart to risk tanking a season and tarnishing his legacy to prove a point.

Currently workshopping a theory where Bill went full Hefez Al Assad after being ****ed by Roger long ago with deflategate, like Kissinger did to Hefez. I'll update when I have more.

If it isn't clear, this is 100% a joke.

I like you, Ross. But - imo - the talent deficiencies are deeper than you portray. Yes, the injuries are making the team unwatchable instead of ‘just bad’. But when there is a play to be made, even pre injuries, I never saw anyone really making a difference.

I’d say that there are plenty of players that can HELP you win (J Jones, Tavai, Duggar, Andrews…) but few that will MAKE you win.

I’d be fine keeping Gonzales and moving on from any and all the rest.

No team is trading draft pick(s) for Bill at age 71 after this trash year

Let him go wherever he wants or he retires when the season ends

You actually think this is a 10 win team with judon and Gonzalez? Lol

The offense is horrendous. I don't know what some of you are seeing there have you believing there was ever a time where it was "ok".

Maybe in September or October of 2021

This team really is that bad. They gave up 20 points today and lost. Doesn't really sound like the defense was the problem.

Outplayed and out coached like most games this year. Good thing there are some of these special teams only guys who are penalty liabilities like Schooler (also, related, why does Cam Achord have a job?) or just simply ineffective.

Doo-doo Schit-Shmoozer can eat a bag of it. As can BOB

Brady-haters starting to miss him.

There are a lot of bad teams out there in 2023 though. Think back to the Week 1 Pats but replace Mac with, like, Jared Goff. That team could get 9 or 10 wins between the games against Jets x2, Saints, Raiders, Commanders, Colts, Giants, Chargers, Steelers, Broncos and maybe another division win somewhere.

He’s definitely got himself into a pickle. Very little wiggle room, and it’s gotten to a point of a bad marriage. You just hope tomorrow things will get back to normal after a good nights sleep … if things need to change I’m hoping Kraft doesn’t make the change till after the season is over.

Up next.
I’d take him, couldn’t hurt to kick the tires

Unfortunately, even at full strength, this team's ceiling was a borderline playoff team that can beat the bad teams and not the good teams (despite the win against the Bills). After week one, this team didn't look like it was any better than it was last year even with Judon and Gonzalez. They looked like they took a step back.

If that was the case, I still think Belichick should be fired. This team was not moving towards becoming a contender again and it wasn't all because of the QB. No one on offense was playing well. The defense was not tackling well at close to full strength.
