Patriots not having a fullback is probably a mistake. Dalton Keene didn’t work out.

I like Captain Stone’s suggestion of poaching Ben Mason from the Ravens practice squad.

Need to get more physical in the run game.

Here's the NFL, Week 1: Five games where teams that missed the playoffs last year beat teams that made the playoffs: Dolphins over Patriots Giants over Titans Chargers over Raiders Vikings over Packers Bears over 49ers (plus Steelers, with lesser record, over Bengals)

Well.....

The Pats should have had at least a field goal on the first drive but there was CLEAR defensive PI that turned into an INT, which Miami turned into 3 points. That's a 6-point swing right there, minimum. And the stupid, godawful play at the end of the first half that turned zero points into 7 for Miami. So that's 13 points right there.

And the Pats lost by..... 13.

First downs: NE 17, Mia 18
Total yards: NE 271, Mia 307
Yds per play: NE 5.0, Mia 5.2

I mean, Bill isn't wrong. Though the two big plays he's talking about are probably the TD and then the strip sack.
Tua is a bad QB. Mac Jones is a good QB. They just have better receivers and a better offensive scheme.

Battle of the noodle arms out there today. Not impressed with either QB. Tua now 4-0 vs. BB. McDaniel first rookie coach to ever beat BB. Defense looked pretty good.

I think he’s wrong. “Even game except for the two huge plays Miami made” means Miami made two huge plays the Patriots didn’t make. That’s actually how the Pats used to win games. You’re citing stats but Bill used to say the only stat that matters is points.

Well one shouldn't have counted. That was a gift from the refs. Should have been 1st and goal at the 1 for New England instead of Miami ball. If you've seen the replay, it's absolutely egregious. Defender literally holds Parker's arm and shoulder down for a half dozen steps and Parker can't even reach up with that arm for the ball. No flag. Interception. Should have been 7-0 Pats right out of the gate.

Xrays mean little with back stuff. If it's disc or ligament issues it's a bad thing. We'll see.

However, the offense itself isn't junk. They just looked real rusty... and yes, the lack of a singular/experienced offense coordinator is the biggest problem. But truthfully, the same issues plagued JMD - the run game was cruising the first quarter, but of course they largely went away from Harris through the middle until it was out of hand.
I worried about this in TC - Parker is okay in practice, but he's slow. Bourne not playing until the 4th is BS.
Oh, and why was Judon invisible until garbage time?? He's been hugely overrated since mid-season last year.

Tua is a bad QB. Mac Jones is a good QB. They just have better receivers and a better offensive scheme.

As of today Mac Jones is right handed Tua, they're both meh.

Mac has more scope to improve but it's hard to see it happening with the collection of coaches he's got.

Plus there were SEVEN times when teams put the ball on the ground in this game. FIVE times New England dislodged the ball from a Miami ball carrier. Two of those times the ball bounced directly to a Dolphin offensive player. One time a Dolphin was ruled out of bounds a split second before, and in any case that ball bounced out of bounds anyway. And another time the ball was knocked loose and bounced out of bounds as well. As we know, footballs bounce weirdly so it wouldn't have been implausible at all for those balls to bounce IN play instead of OUT of play. And one play a Dolphin player was ruled down before the ball came out (landed on his head) but replay on that was...eh.....not certain about that.

And the two times Miami dislodged the ball from the Pats the ball bounced right to Dolphin players.

SEVEN loose balls. All seven went Miami's way. That's just a fact.

I was happy about the running game.

I also don't think Patricia is a dunce.

But I'm still wondering what the mix is going to be. I was always a mcDaniels fan because he liked taking advantage of open spaces on the field.

Today I saw very little in terms of dump offs, short throws, etc.

I want to see what the philosophy is going to be.

The two scripted drives are going to get a lot of scrutiny. They worked, were efficient, and really played to the strengths.

  • It was nice to see Jonnu get a couple catches in space / one guy to beat situations. This is where he has the most impact.
  • Please - no more Ty up the middle, ok?
  • Meyers is a staple - touchdowns or not. Glad we kept him around.
  • Odd they opted to try to get Brown outside that far on some of the stretch plays. He's powerful, agile, but not fast. Fire him out and get Strange to pull.
  • Hill got his catches, but not much after (compared to other meetings against him).
  • Do we have speedy linebackers now? When was the last time we could say that?
  • The run D did its job - nice to see Judon looking like he's back in form
The big mistakes (the blitz/strip, giving up the seam on the TD come to mind) are fixable. A divisional loss is never good, but this smack in the mouth can be very useful. A nice reality check.

On to Pittsburgh.

I don't think most of us expect a playoff berth this season let a lone a division title,What many of us were hoping for was the team to remain competitive despite a very mediocre WR corps and not to stink up the field when they play and hopefuly hang around the 9-8 mark ...the 1st week was not a move in the positive direction .....The Pats may have a chance to stay competitive next week with the Steelers top rusher and starting RB likely out and thats about all the positive things I can think about going into week 2

I thought the two plays were the strip sack for a TD and the atrocious TD before the end of the half.

Mac dodging a serious injury would be another positive.

100 million in cap space next season, ball out and splurge, this team needs game breakers on both sides.
