While the D wasn't the reason we lost, they didn't look very together in clutch moments.
I mean, Hill is crazy, but Dolphins offense is not a top 15, maybe not even a top 20.
So, our pass D is going to have step up.

You're a DB, and your name is not Lott. hit and wrap-up the dang tackle!

"Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-Flailing Defensive Back!"

On that 4th and 7 Dolphins TD looked like a bunch of Jordan Richardses were out there trying to "tackle".
Come on. I wouldn’t go that far. Did anyone try to tackle? It was as if they all looked at one another and said “nah. He’s got it. Would really hate to get crushed on a meani…” TOUCHDOWN DOLPHINS..

Here's the deal. The game wasn't all bad. They let Mac off the leash compared to last year and he was moving the ball. It's just more irritating that the offense shot themselves in the foot and stopped themselves as many times as the Dolphins did. The defense looked pretty good, Dugger looks great. Speedy WR's are still an issue for them. The front was mostly good. Got pressure, stuffed the run most of the game.

Offensively, we are still seeing a lack of chemistry on the line and some very obvious week links. We also have pass catchers who flash talent but aren't solidly reliable that opposing defenses need to account for.

Mac is a mixed bag. He's showing more authority and confidence, but that's also coming with more room for error and some more mistakes slipping through.

I think most REASONABLE fans knew this wasn't a Super Bowl team, so that's not horrible. It just means we are in fact still in rebuild mode and have question marks. I'm not ready to say blow up and start over. But I do have some questions about the construction of some units. Also yes, Belichick's offensive staff had some justified question marks, and thus far between the pre season and first game they have yet to produce. They will need to or there will be some real hard questions for Bill to deal with next year.

In the macro there is good and bad and the result was ****ty but not unexpected. In the micro, yes we just lost a divisional game and we look like we are the clear 3rd best team in the division in a stacked conference that will be a bloodbath so if you look at through only the lens of this year, it is concerning.

These all come with the giant caveat that it's week one, the team could improve and work out some kinks, etc.

If the Patriots wanted to hire a real OC mid season could they? Has that ever happened?

The clapper is available I guess. Lol

Would be a massive pain in the ass changing the entire offense mid season. Also probably demoralizing for the team to basically cut them off and label their work as a failure. Better to have a guy or two in mind and snag him early in the off season.

Offensive line is where im looking, that and a stud at the opposite end of Judon, that’s severely lacking. Uche, Jennings, or Perkins isn’t the answer.
I thought the DL was our best unit today including Wise. No one ever gives him any love. He's no all star but I think he's a Jarvis Green type. just a solid all around dlinemen.

Yeah line stuffed the run and got good hits on Tua. Defense is going to keep us is in games, offense needs to show up.

Speaking personally… the offensive play calling wasn’t bad at all with the exception of the second quarter which felt poor. I expected there was a chance of poor play calling bailed out by talented players, but instead we got decent play calling that was screwed up by players making mistakes.

Idk Ty Montgomery up the middle on 3rd and 3 was kinda ****in brutal
I mean it wasn't good. But it's not something new we often call plays like that when we know we are going for it on 4th down. Faulk and white and the o-line would just execute better. Doing it on both 3rd and shorts when we knew we'd probably go on fourth doesn't make it any better either.

They were throwing into the teeth of the D though, with an unwillingness to take the short stuff underneath.

Just saw that Mac has a back injury. That would explain the accuracy issues.

That was a bad call for sure, but you can't pick on individual plays. Even with McD around, failed plays on important downs stood out. Coaching or players the offense did not execute on key plays, starting with Mr. Win 80 percent of jump balls getting schooled in the endzone on the first drive. It seemed if the offense lost its swagger after that play. Play calling could have been a factor in that.

That 2021 QB draft class isn't looking so hot yet:

#1: 24/42, 275 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, Rating 75 (loss)
#2: INJURED (loss)
#3: 13/28, 164 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, Rating 50 (loss)
#4: 8/17, 121 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, Rating 85 (win over #3)
#5: 21/30, 215 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, Rating 87 (loss)

Well, Mac is still out performing the other four.

So there's that.

I guess.

Dugger and Judon were the only positives from today.

The good news is that this is only the first game of the season. Plenty of football left

I didn't have much a problem other than the 3rd and 3 / 4th and short instances. There should be some quick hitters drawn up for those situations.... for example send Jacobi in motion and run a quick out. I know they've run it a few times and the play seemed to be there a pretty good percentage of the time. The 3rd down draw which Miami saw coming a mile away both times and then some random pass play on 4th isn't the way to go there.

But still good that the majority of it wasn't so terrible. Even with JMD i could probably point to a playcall or 2 each game which I absolutely hated.
