Agreed. I would refer to go outside, but agreed. All Stevenson had to do is wrap the ball up with two arms and we kill the clock.

Yeah a stretch hand-off behind Onwenu/McDermott to allow Rham to choose a cut-back lane should've been the call... A vanilla dive behind Strange69/Andrews was asking for trouble from the very beginning, though I still feel that Rham's forward progress had been stopped and the play should've been blown dead.

Look, this team is not very good. However, they competed in the 2nd half, I'll take it.

Receivers drop balls. Thorton got open deep on two passes. Keep throwing him the ball, he will catch it...

Based on...?

Good play. It's 3rd and 29 to go. A long toss up to the goal, even if it is intercepted is as good as a punt downed inside the 5. Also after the long scramble he knew that everybody was way downfield and covered, so he chose the tall guy (Washington is 6'5") to target.

Could've used that play at the end of the previous game...

Fire Stevenson.

All the other missed opportunities by the QB don't matter.

It's come down to blaming the Refs and individual plays just like Raider fans blaming the Tuck Rule for losing. Anything to deflect any accountability by The Guy.

You do realize you are doing the same thing you accuse me of? You excuse everything that Patricia, the receivers, the oline, Stevenson, or who does that negatively to put all the blame on Mac Jones. You can never concede that the problems with this offense include things out of Jones' control and Patricia and the o-line have been bigger issues than Jones. Even a lot of the anti-Mac crowd conceded that Patricia's gameplan this game was ultra predictable and conservative until he was forced to open up the game and play Kendrick Bourne.

Mac Jones has been part of problem with this offense this season, but anyone with a shred of objectivity would say Matt Patricia has been a far, far bigger problem this season and a lion share of the blame falls on his lap and not Jones'.

If I ever thought that my team was losing games to move up higher in the draft I'd go ballistic. That's a losing mentality and one that belongs to the Indiots of the world.

It wouldn't be tanking; it would be acknowledging the obvious and preparing for next season by resting vets (Rham, Andrews, Judon, Guy, even Meyers as a sign of goodwill) and playing more kids, including Zappy...

They were trying to run the ball to start the clock. Taking time off the clock was more important that scoring on that play (Cincy had no TO's). Rham hasn't fumbled all year so that was a safe play to run there. You can't predict that a guy who hasn't fumbled all season is going to fumble there.

I agree with the concept, but I feel that running him up the middle into the teeth of the defense was an unnecessary risk.

Right on que blame the OC.

Look who Patricia has for a QB? Even a rocket engineer cannot turn 5hit into gold.

Starting with the QB under center as well. It’s not just Patricia, the whole league has gone shotgun crazy. It’s so limiting to the run game. Basically , every run play out of it is some variation of a draw. Every run is slow developing. Too much time for penetration. No quick hitters or quick pitches.

The intent of that 1st down play was to advance towards the goal line without actually scoring. The should have been a quick hitter up the middle. Not a delayed hand off the shotgun up the middle.

How many times has Jimmy played all games in a season? Can't have a QB who is basically always guaranteed to miss significant time.
As down as I am on Mac, I would rather see Year 3 Mac get one last shot with BoB. I want no part of Jimmy G. Injury prone combined with average QB'ing.

I would much rather see Zappe get a real shot.

But NO to Jimmy G.

JG certainly cannot be the only good QB in your building; you will absolutely need another in whom you have confidence, if not two others...

And I also wouldn't pay him over $25M/yr unless his contract was Heavily incentivized, as in almost All of it.

But if those obstacles can be overcome, they I say yeah why not I guess...

Thank you for proving my point.

Bill belichick's arrogance is problem 1 for entrusting offense in hands of two failed head coaches who don't even have an idea of what offensive playcalling is
  1. problem 2 is Matt Patricia and Joe judge

  2. problem 3 is cam Achord for not knowing how to coach special teams and riding the luck on two rookies Marcus and schooler who are performing despite him .

  3. problem 4 is Troy brown unable to coach up wide receivers .

  4. Problem 5 is Nick caley not knowing what to do with Tight ends

  5. Problem 6 is Mac who is expected to rectify problem 1 -6
Let's fix problems 1-5 before we get to Mac.

Corky is actually only Problem 7 in that scenario: Problem 6 is that our Offensive Tackles are offensive to me, and our 29TH Overall Pick in the Entire Dam Draft was used on a Division 2 Left Guard who Never played Left Tackle there and who's making Nobody forget Logan Mankin$... And oh yeah we have Zero experienced quality backups to our brave & tough but injury-hit Center.

You could design better plays in Madden than Matt Patricia. He's going to go down as the guy that had players routinely running in the same area or running the same routes side by side. We've seen this many times this year.

And how can you not love running from under center on 1st down?

The Bengals ran 25 more plays than the Pats and they had the ball for 13 additional minutes.

You want to thank someone for keeping NE in the game? Thank the Pats defense and Marcus Jones.
And Burrow dropping back and throwing it off his back foot on 3rd & long up 22-0 late in the 3rd quarter

And a Hail Mary on 3rd & 29 which deflected into Meyers' hands

Mac's apparently very well liked by his teammates, as Bledsoe was. In fact, there were players on the '88 team who liked and were in favor of Eason replacing healthy (only reason the team was competitive) Flutie at the end of the season with the playoffs on the line after not playing for over a year

If he'd kept Zappe as the starter and made Matty commit to run, we'd be playing for HFA right now.

Smart play is contagious, just like idiotic play.

Good comedy.

I didn't jump in this thread until page 21, and I haven't seen this mentioned since then, but...

Why wasn't Rham's forward progress considered stopped and the play whistled dead?
Questionable, borderline judgement calls by the officials have nothing to do with this team's results this season.
